The Bible—banned, burned, beloved. More widely read, more frequently attacked than any other book

in history. Generations of intellectuals have attempted to discredit it; dictators of every age have outlawed it and executed those who read it. Yet soldiers carry it

into battle believing it more powerful than their weapons. Fragments of it smuggled into solitary prison cells

have transformed ruthless killers into gentle saints.

GOD has truly been faithful to us this year, and I am excited to see more of what He will do in our church as we are now on the last two

months of this year. This month, our Sunday School lessons will help us to be victorious in our Christian life through our “fi ghts.” There has always been a battle between right and wrong, good and evil, God and the devil; and since we got saved, we were placed on God’s side. Because of that, Satan and his ungodly system hate us, too.

Christian life is always a battleground. Apostle Paul even mentioned “Fight the good fi ght of faith…” in one of his epistles. The devil desires every Christian to have a miserable life, not pleasing to God, and he will use every possible way he can to do it. Hence, we must be determined to fi ght and stand for our desire to please God. Families and church brethren must work together so as to accomplish this purpose. We thank God that we have the Word of God. This is our “sword of the Spirit.” We must know it and live it for us to be victorious.

I am grateful for everyone who prayed for my 8-day trip to Taiwan last week. The zeal for the Lord of our brethren there is truly inspiring. Yes, they are there to work, but God has a greater purpose. Through their participation in the work of the Lord, they are bearing spiritual fruits. I am blessed to see many souls being saved, baptized and lives being changed in our three outreaches there.

Finally, let me challenge you as we come to the close of this year with these words: Let us aim for a victorious Christian life. Let God’s word work in our hearts.

I. As Bible believers, we contend that God promised us His word by way of revelation. A. God promised through His word to reveal His program in the past and His plan for the future.B. God promised through His word to reveal His purpose and man’s part in it. II. As Bible believers, we contend that God provided us His word by way of inspiration. A. God Himself personally gave His people His own words.B. God Himself personally gave His pure words to instruct His own people the way of righteousness. III. As Bible believers, we contend that God procured for us His word by way of preservation. A. God promised the preservation of His word.B. God has a purpose for the preservation of His word.

Just Use Me.

Just use me—I am the Bible. I am God’s wonderful library. I am always—and above all—the Truth. To the weary pilgrim, I am a good strong staff. To the one who sits in gloom, I am a glorious light. To those who stoop beneath heavy burden, I am sweet rest. To him who has lost his way, I am a safe guide. To those who have been hurt by sin, I am healing balm. To the discouraged, I whisper glad messages of hope. To those who are distressed by the storms of life, I am an anchor. To those who suffer in lonely solitude, I am a cool, soft hand resting on a fevered brow O, child of man, to best defend me, just use me!

Just Use Me.

Tunnel LIGHTS

Some Bible verses are like lanterns. They were made for dark places and dark hours. Did you ever hear about the little girl in the train? She couldn’t understand why the trainman was going through the car lighting the lamps.

She said, “Mother, it is the middle of the day and the sun is shining, why he is turning on those lights?” The mother smiled, and said, “Wait a bit and you’ll see what the lights are for.” In a moment or two the train plunged into a long, dark tunnel, and then the little girl saw the wisdom of the lamp lighting process. Dear friend, that Bible of yours contains thousands of verses that seem very ordinary and unnecessary. You can’t see why God has gone to all the trouble of lighting those lamps of truth, but some day you’re going into the tunnel of grief, or the tunnel of temptation, or the tunnel of suffering, and then you will value and ap-preciate the verses that appear to be commonplace today.

Powerful WordA physician went to hear D. L. Moody. Although he had not thought of such a result, he was con-verted. When asked the reason for his change of heart, he said, “I went to hear Mr. Moody with no other idea than to have something to laugh at. I knew he was no scholar, and I felt sure I could fi nd many fl aws in his argument. But I found I could not get at the man. He stood there hiding behind the Bible and just fi red one Bible text after another at me till they went home to my heart straight as bullets from a rifl e. I tell you, Moody’s power is in the way he has his Bible at the tip of his tongue.”

Dwight Lyman Moody

WE ARE TOLD that the gray heron has a very singular mode of defense. When attacked by the eagle or falcon it simply stands

quiet and fi rm, using its bill as a sword, allowing the enemy to pierce himself through by his own force. The Christian’s method of defense is very similar. We have the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. When attacked by the enemy, without or within, stand fi rm and display the Word, hold it forth. The more fi ercely the foe attacks the more surely shall they pierce themselves with it. His Word is a fi re, all that cross it shall be burned. "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against fl esh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fi ery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;" Ephesians 6:10-18

VS VS VS What would happen if we treated our Bibles like we treat our cellphones? What if we carried them around in our purses or pockets? What if we fl ipped thru them several times a day? What if we turned back to go get them if we forgot them? What if we used them to receive messages from the Text? What if we treated them like we couldn't live without them? What if we gave them to our kids as gifts? What if we used them when we traveled? What if we used them in case of emergency? Makes you stop and think, "What is more important to me? The cellphone or the Bible?

The Bible must always be at the heart of our preaching, teaching, and way of living. If the Scriptures do not guide our lives, we have no guide better than ourselves. No human document can compare in the least with the Word of God. Woodrow Wilson is reported to have said, “We have deprived ourselves of the best there is in the world if we deprive ourselves of knowledge of the Bible.” There is no comparison: the Bible is the best guide, and the believer’s life is the best guided. Don’t be deprived of the Bible’s rich blessings. Read it daily. Study it often.

The Bible is the only thing that can combat the devil. Quote the Scriptures and the devil will run...use the Scriptures like a sword and you’ll drive temptation away.

HOW MUCH TIME does it take to read from Genesis to Revelation? If you would read the Bible at standard

pulpit speed (slow enough to be heard and understood) the reading time would be seventy-one hours. If you would break that down into minutes and divide it into 365 days you could read the entire Bible, cover to cover, in only twelve minutes a day. Is this really too much time to spend reading about God? Reading the Bible and following its instructions will enable you to fi nd Christ as your all-suffi cient Savior. Further, regular reading will minimize your anxieties, decrease appetite for lying, cheating, stealing, immorality, and all manner of sin. You will realize real peace, joy, and love in your life.

SOURCE OF HEALINGSOURCE OF HEALINGSOURCE OF HEALING A woman went to consult a famous physician about her health. She was a woman of nervous temperament. She gave the doctor a list of her symptoms and answered his questions, only to be astonished at his brief prescription at the end: “Go home, and read your Bible an hour every day; then come back to me a month from today.” And he bowed her out before she could protest. At fi rst she was inclined to be angry; then she refl ected that the prescription was not an expensive one. She went home determined to read her neglected Bible. In a month she went back to the doctor’s offi ce a different person, and asked him how he knew that was just what she needed. For answer the physician turned to his desk. There, worn and marked, lay an open Bible. “Madam,” he said, “If I were to omit my daily reading of this Book I would lose my greatest source of strength and skill.”

FAMILIARIZEFAMILIARIZEFAMILIARIZE In spiritual warfare as in physical warfare, the effectiveness of any weapon is directly proportionate to the effi ciency of the one operating it. For this reason, during a war, the U.S. Army assigned a new recruit one rifl e which he kept throughout his training. It was called his “piece,” and it became a part of him. The recruit handled the piece continually, disassembling and reassembling it. He cleaned it. He conducted basic maintenance. He carried it 12 hours a day. When crossing rivers or streams his head might have gotten wet, but his piece had to stay dry. Six months later in the heat of battle, the soldier knew every inch of it—every mechanism. He understood things that could mal function and how to remedy them. He could break it down and reassemble it in just seconds, blindfolded. Man and weapon had become a synchronized and deadly, effi cient fi ghting machine. The spiritual warrior’s profi ciency with his basic weapons should be no less remarkable. But quite sadly, if belie- vers had to rely on their own Bible familiarity in life and death situations, the majority would helplessly perish.
