THERE is really blessing in obedience; and obeying God in our fi nancial giving yields bountiful harvests. As we conclude our

monthly theme lessons on being victorious Chris-tians through our fi nances, may we be reminded that God Himself does not need our money. He defi nitely owns everything. However, He com-mands us to give for His work, so that His Word may reach those who need the Gospel and in return, we reap the blessings of giving. He is not concerned about how much we give, but on how faithful we are in giving back what is His with our love for His work.

Furthermore, I challenge you to be prepared for the upcoming programs of our church. These are the launching of our “Soulwinning Night with the Pastor” this September, our Missions Confer-ence in November, and our Family Camp before the year ends. I thank God that He continually gives us wisdom on how we can be strength-ened spiritually. Make sure that you support these events with your presence and prayers. Likewise, your prayers will also be appreciated for the suc-cess of our Singapore Outreach First Anniversary celebration today.

Thank you for being faithful to the Lord’s work! Allow the Holy Spirit to work in your hearts today through His Word.

Grace binds you with far stronger cords than the cords of duty or obligation can bind you. Grace is free, but when once you take it you are bound forever to the Giver, and bound to catch the spirit of the Giver. Like produces like, grace makes you gracious, the Giver makes you give.

And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

This decline has been felt by many, if not all, at one level or another. Situations such as this give the Christian the opportunity to exercise great faith with regard to our giving. Mark 12:41-44 relates the well-known story of the “widow’s mite.” In this passage of Scripture Jesus observed “how the people cast money into the treasury” (vs. 41). He observed how “many that were rich cast in much.” He then took special note of the poor widow woman who “threw in two mites.” Monetarily speaking, her gift was insignifi cant compared to those who had cast in “much,” yet Jesus called His disciples over to instruct them on the true value of her gift. He explained how “she of her want did cast in all that she had.” (emphasis added) Though she lacked fi nancially, she still found a way to give to God. What a great example of love for the Lord expressed by sacrifi cial giving!Diffi cult fi nancial times can put the Christian to the test when it comes to giving. We may have been used to giving of our abundance when now, because of fi nancial diffi culties, we are required to give of our want. WHEN YOU GO TO A DOCTOR for your annual check-up, he or she will often begin to poke, prod, and press various places, all the while asking, “Does this hurt?

How about this?” If you cry out in pain, one of two things has happened. Either the doctor has pushed too hard, without the right sensitivity. Or, more likely, there’s something wrong, and the doctor will say, “We’d better do some more tests. It’s not supposed to hurt there!” So it is when pastors preach on fi nancial responsibility, and certain members cry out in discomfort, criticizing the message and the messenger. Either the pastor has pushed too hard. Or perhaps there’s something wrong. In that case, I say, “My friend, we’re in need of the Great Physician, because it’s not supposed to hurt there.”

The movies say, “I’ll entertain you, but you must buy a ticket fi rst.” The restaurant asks, “Eat here but you have to pay the bill.” The insurance company offers to insure you, “But the premiums must be met.” The basketball association says, “You’ll see a good game, but you must have the price of admission.” The golf course says, “Play here but fi rst pay the green fees.” The automotive seller says the car is fi rst class, “But you have to buy a license.” Then the Lord says, “In My church you will fi nd spiritual food, fellowship, assurance of eternal life, consolation in time of trouble, spiritual blessings beyond measure and opportunities to do good to others and there is no specifi c charge except for the tithe. Give as you are willing.” And everybody tries to get by as cheaply as possible! Can you tell me why?

Leftover GivingWhat Is Tithing?

Mathematically it is a tenth. “… and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely

give the tenth unto thee.” (Gen. 28:21)

Morally it is a debt. “… Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” (Mal. 3:8)

Economically it is an investment. “But lay up for yourselves treasures

in heaven,...” (Matt. 6:20)

Scripturally it is a law. “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase...” (Deut. 14:22)

Spiritually it is a blessing. “...I will open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room

enough to receive it...” (Mal. 3:10)

When you invite special guests to your home, do you warm up the leftovers in the refrigerator and serve them on paper plates in front of the television? Of course not. Most of us prepare a special meal, use our best dishes and arrange our schedules so that we can spend quality time with our guests. In other words, we offer them our very best. How many of us invite the Lord Jesus into our life and then serve Him “leftovers"? We give Him time “leftover” from our work, our families oror our recreation. We give Him talents “leftover" fromour social organizations, our sports activities or ourhobbies. We give Him money “leftover” after we payour bills and our taxes and put some money aside for our vacation. “Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.” Num. 18:29 (emphasis added). Ask yourself, "Have I given to the Lord who died for me the choicest, or have I given Him leftovers?"

"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other;

or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
