CHRISTIANITY in our lives began when we accepted Christ in our hearts as our perso-nal Saviour, but it does not end there. There

is more to it than just being saved. It must have growth, it must bear fruits. As the Bible describes it, we Christians are likened to a branch, while God is the vine. As long as we are connected to the Vine, there will be fruits in our lives.

It saddens me to see many Christians and church members who have just decided to stop growing. They have ignored the tools God has gi-ven them to grow. They have been satisfi ed with just going to Heaven, not knowing that they will enjoy Heaven more when they decide to be fruit-ful while here on earth. Even the secular world re-quires people to be fruitful in their endeavors, which eventually earn them a recognition or reward. How much more would God reward us if we will decide to be fruitful in much more important matters, those which are heavenly. I pray that we will desire to be fruitful children of God.

As we enjoy church through the godly fellow-ship and preaching, may we realize that God feeds us spiritually for us to grow and be more useful for His glory! Let us have a Spirit-fi lled Sunday!

Victorious Christian Living (Fruit of the Spirit)Mk. 11:12-14, 20-21 / Gal. 5:22-23

I. The fruit of the Spirit is the product of the regenerating power of God. A. A lost person has no fruit of the Spirit in him but the work of the fl esh.B. A living person because of Christ’s redemptive work has the Spirit in him to do the will of God. II. The fruit of the Spirit is prevailing over those who remain in the presence of God. A. Believers’ fruitfulness is satisfying in the sight of our Lord and the Father in Heaven. B. Believers’ fruitfulness is securely insured by their close relationship with the Father in Heaven.

III. The fruit of the Spirit is prospered by the rewards coming from God.A. Our Lord Jesus Christ wants some fruits in us and not only leaves. B. Our Lord Jesus Christ will bless us according to our fruits and not in the abundance of our leaves.

The prosperity of a country depends, not only on the abundance of its revenues, nor on the strength of its fortifications, nor on the beauty of its public buildings, but it consists in the number of its men of enlightenment and character.

Some time ago we noticed that a tree planted at the sunny end of a house had large and beautiful blossoms. It was a feast to the eyes; but what an amazing difference in some of the branches trained round the corner of the house where they got much less sun. The blossoms were starved and drooping, and there was little promise of fruit. They had the same root and stem in common, but while one part of the tree was in the full glorious light, the other branches were in the shade. Our character is affected in the same way by insuffi cient enlightenment. The dark places produce unfruitful branches: strange weaknesses, distortions, immaturities, indirec- tion, failures in practical life and conduct. If we are to bear all manner of precious fruit, each in its rightful season, we must trustfully and joy fully lay open our whole soul to the full span of God’s light shining in the face of Jesus Christ.

In his observations on 1 Corinthians chapter 2, J. Stuart Holden gives a beautiful illustration. He says, “I have around my home a garden. In that garden and its possi- bilities I have the mind of nature. For instance, I know what soil and what seed should produce this, that, and all the other kinds of fl owers and fruit; I see set forth in the seedsmen’s catalogues the wonderful things that the garden should bring forth …. But mark you, the fl owers and the fruit are only produced by labor, by obe- dience to the laws of nature. When the garden has been made beautiful and fruitful, it has been made so only by intelligent cooperation with na ture. Similarly, we Christians have the mind of Christ. We know full well what a Christian life should be.” The fruits of the Spirit are only made evident in our lives as we wholeheartedly cooperate with the Lord in full submission and obedience to Him by letting His Spirit have full control of us—body, soul and spirit.

Giving the Lord ControlFruitfulness

Fruitfulness John Jacob Astor, founder of the American Fur Company, arrived in America in 1784, a ragged German immigrant. By 1841 he was the richest man in America. That’s fruitfulness, at least by one defi nition. The Lord Jesus Christ, on the other hand, left Heaven owning “the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10) and when he arrived on earth he was the poorest of the poor. That’s fruitfulness, too!
