Pre HP-II Position
No systematic mechanism for collection , processing,analysis, storage and dissemination of hydrological data.
Number of data collector agencies working in water tightcompartments, resulting in:
*
inadequate network* protocol not followed
* data available in piecemeal
* no validation
* less reliable thus of limited use* duplicity of stations
Adverse effect on planning of water resource sector projectsdue to lack of reliable and easily accessible data.

1. Impact of Sewerage Effluent on Drinking Water Sources of Shimla
City & Suggesting Ameliorative Measures. Study was conducted by NIH, Roorkee and IPH Deptt. jointly. Data collection, sampling, testing and analysis was done by NIH,
Roorkee. 2 trainings on Water Quality convened at HIPA under the study. The final report has been received and IPH Deptt. has initiated action on
its recommendation.
2. Study on Ground Water Quality Characteristic In Industrial
Predominant Areas Of H.P.
PEC, University of Technology engaged as consultant for carrying out
the study. 20 additional borewells were drilled to observe GW quality in study area. Testing of water samples and analysis has been completed and draft
final report is expected in first week of Feb., 2014

Outcome Of Completed PDS
NIH, Roorkee conducted PDS on Impact of Sewage Effluent on Drinking Water Sources ofShimla City and suggesting Ameliorative Measure's as some cases of Jaundice were
reported from parts of Shimla City in the year 2006-07.
Final report was received in May, 2013.
NIH recommended measures, like installation of ultra filtration membrane or ozonetreatment, to improve the performance of Water Treatment Plant
Performance study of Sewage Treatment Plant was also recommended.
Taking note of non seasonal jaundice cases, an Inter departmental Sub-Group wasconstituted in March, 2013 to investigate its cause.
The findings of this Sub Group were discussed in the meetings held under the
Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (IPH) to the Govt. of H.P.
Considering the recommendations of NIH it was decided that Techno Commercial proposalbe prepared for installing Ultra filtration membrane and ozone treatment system at WTP. Italso decided to have the performance of STP validated by engaging appropriate agency.
The I&PH Department is accordingly working on there proposals and it is expected that the
study recommendation would soon transform into reality.

Weakness
Off the league with the routine departmental
works causes general apprehension.
Not many people interested for posting or
continuing.
On completion people eager to move out of the
project due to uncertainty of further postings.
Small works spread over the entire State lead to
higher operational difficulties.
