(Thanksgiving, Christmas, Super Bowl, birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, misc. & etc.). For everyone’s safety, adhere to state laws regarding emergency vehicles and be a good neighbor and obey traffic laws.

EVERYONE ENJOYS FIREWORKS!!Everyone enjoys and loves fireworks! However, not everyone likes what is left behind, like the firework remains such as cardboard tubes, streamers, wooden blocks, fire cracker bodies, etc. on their lawns or in front of their homes, especially if they were not the ones participating in the firework frenzy. We are lucky we can still have fireworks in our area (as we are not in the Houston city limits). With the holidays quickly coming upon us, if history holds true, there will still be many firework-related items in sidewalks, yards, the street and storm gutters when this newsletter comes out or later this month. Please be a good neighbor and clean up all the debris the fireworks leave behind. P.S. This is trash that definitely should not be going down the storm drains.

SOME HELPFUL TIPS FOR REDUCING STRESS1. Try this before going to bed, set out breakfast items and lay out everything you’ll need for work or school, so you can simply pick up and go in the morning. I know this seems like a small thing, but really, people can set themselves up for a whole day of stress because things get slowed down in the morning.2. Try to get up 20 minutes earlier so you can have an unrushed breakfast, it is the most important meal of the day.3. Walk whenever it is possible. Try taking the stairs or hand deliver things at the office. It gets your blood circulating and increases your overall health.4. Plan grocery shopping, banking and post office visits during off times. Going to H.E.B. on a Saturday afternoon will stress you out. Why do this to yourself? Put it off for another day.5. Don’t leave without going to the bathroom before leaving for work or home. Believe me, this sounds silly, but it isn’t.6. Try to look for the humor in every situation. Humor helps you to jump out of the picture and gives you the clarity needed to solve the issue at hand.

TRY THESE EASY WAYS TO SAVE ON GAS1. Lighten up the load and don’t carry heavy unnecessary items in your

car and remove accessory racks when not in use.2. Drive the speed limit. Going the speed limit will save you tons of gas.3. Minimize passing. When you speed up to pass another car, you’re using more gas.4. Check the air in your tires. If the pressure isn’t perfect, then neither is your gas efficiency.5. Shift gears on manual cars appropriately. The higher the gear the less gas is being used.6. Try to buy a smaller vehicle. No elaboration required.7. Try to drive less.8. Buy gas early or late in the day. When you purchase gas early or late in the day, especially during the warm months, gas is cooler earlier in the day and denser. As temperatures rise, gas density falls and get less of it when you pump.9. Buy gas early in the week. Prices typically rise between Wednesday and Saturday, but stay lower during the early days of the week.10. Monitor when and how you brake. Braking excessively wastes gas and causes your brake pads to wear out quickly. Maintain a safe distance between yourself and the car in front of you when you’re in heavy traffic so you wouldn’t need to brake as often as if you were tailgating. Also, by keeping a bit more distance between you and the car ahead, you can begin braking earlier, especially when approaching a traffic light. By not having to slam on the brakes at the last minute, you’ll improve the efficiency of your car and save your gas.

HARRIS COUNTY CURFEW TO BE STRICTLY ENFORCEDThe Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be strictly enforcing curfew, zero tolerance. Most parents are unaware that Harris County has a curfew. Children under the age of 17 must be in at midnight (12 AM). Parent’s need to make sure that their children are at home the entire night. If children are caught wandering around at late hours after midnight, the Harris County Sheriff’s will give them a citation. This is a class C misdemeanor; both the child and the parent must appear in front of court and pay a fine. Usually it will take all day to take care of this and the fine may exceed $150. VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAWAnimals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, others may not know. An animal running at someone who is walking by would be very scary
