The TCI Model 803E is a compact Communications Intelligence (COMINT) and direction finding (DF) system. Ideal for fi xed, transportable, and mobile applications, it supports search, intercept, identification, and location or localization of sources of intentional and unintentional radiated electromagnetic energy for immediate threat recognition, targeting, planning, and conduct of future operations.
The 803E continuously scans, detects, DFs, and records the spectrograms and DF reports in tasked frequency channels on a 2 or 20 MHz (HF confi guration) and 4 or 40 MHz (V/UHF confi guration) instantaneous bandwidth. Bandwidth is tuneable over the 9 KHz to 30 MHz, 20 to 3,000 or 20 to 8,000 MHz frequency ranges. The dual 40/4 MHz wideband DF and monitor capability allows the Model 803E to detect and capture weak signals in crowded RF environments using the 4 MHz instantaneous bandwidth and detect short-duration, frequency-agile and wide-bandwidth signals using the 40 MHz bandwidth.
The 803E is available with any of TCI’s single-band VHF/UHF/SHF monitor and DF antennas. This includes the Model 641 for high-accuracy DF on vertically polarized signals in fixed and mobile applications; the compact, low-profi le Model 645 for mobile and transportable applications; and the Model 643 for monitoring and DF of vertically and horizontally polarized signals from 20 MHz to 3,000 MHz. For higher frequencies, the Model 803E can use the Model 647 antenna, the fi rst antenna to provide high-accuracy DF on vertically polarized signals in fi xed and mobile applications from 20 MHz to 8 GHz.
Integrated hardware and software coupled with modern DSP provide multi-mission support for COMINT and range operations. And wideband, multi-channel architecture provides accurate DF in complex signal environments. Multiple 803E units can be networked together for triangulation. Similarly, mobile 803E systems can utilize TCI’s homing DF capability to track down signals of interest.

flexible Operations and DisplayThe TCI Model 803E system supports a wide range of operational and display features, including:
wideband Scanning Detection with Simultaneous DfDetects and simultaneously DFs all signals in the bands of interest the operator specifies, using fast-stepping wideband reception combined with DSP-based fine frequency channelization. The operator can access interlinked displays of DF reports, including azimuth vs. time, azimuth vs. frequency, frequency vs. time, frequency histogram, and map-based direction from sensor location.
modern Signal Detection and Df Provides interlinked, fast-scanning detection/DF displays combined with powerful signal-isolation capabilities, enabling real-time and post facto detection and DF of modern signals, including frequency-hopping signals.
full mission replayStores spectrograms and DF reports in a high-speed relational database, allowing replay of all missions with different graphical settings and signal selection/deselection criteria. Any station can merge data sets from multiple stations, providing full post-facto triangulation and geolocation of all signals of interest.
System operationsAn easy-to-learn, user-friendly operator interface provides complete tasking, scanning, signal detection, DF, reporting and mission-replay functions.
interlinked fast-mode Displays❯ Analyze and geolocate multiple signals from a
set of collected data representing many signals.
❯ Display spectra and DF reports collected by the real-time system in a database.
❯ View displays in real time as the data are collected and stored in the database.
❯ Monitor spectrogram, frequency histogram, map with bearing rays from sensors, azimuth vs. time, and azimuth vs. frequency displays.
azimuth vs. time DisplayTwo-dimensional plot of signals correlates azimuth and time axes to identify and isolate co-channel interference and modern digital modulations.
The 803E Fast Mode provides interlinked displays for analyzing multiple emitters of interest, such as stations on a simplex network
The Model 803E’s ability to rapidly scan and DF on the VHF/UHF/SHF frequency range provides critical mission support for all modern frequency hopping signals.
Data is available for examination in realtime and replay modes using a versatile range of displays, including map displays, polar displays and spectrogram displays (shown here).
