Love Fleegle
You are invited on Wednesday, September 5, to attend our first Fellowship Meal of the new church year. It will be a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellow-ship Hall followed by Mission Night at 6:45 p.m. Our commit-tees will be meeting to discuss their responsibilities for the church year. We look forward to seeing you.
From Pastor Greg: Drew Harrod will be remembered at Ephesus for as long as the church exists. His vibrant relationship with Jesus was conta-gious, especially as he surrendered his life to the Lord to use the terrible suffering he endured to reach thou-sands for Christ! We named our evangelism training class after him: Class 401: The Drew Harrod Class for Sharing My Faith. Now, Drew’s wife Jennifer and daughter Sadie carry the torch, not only of his memory, but of his legacy of passion for sharing Jesus every-where he went, with everyone he met. So, too, does Drew’s cousin Travis Ross. Travis and his wife are natives of South Carolina, but now live in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. They’re working in partnership with one of the few Southern Baptist churches in the entire state, and with the North Amer-ican Mission Board, to plant churches in the Lehigh Valley region. You may have heard of the famous Bethlehem Star which lights up on a nearby mountain throughout the Christmas season. Yet, the Bethlehem area could be described as post-Christian, or even pre-Christian. Most residents make no connection between the name of their city or the meaning of the Star and the Christ of Christmas, or at least not beyond a cultural level. Travis is going to be with us Sunday evening September 16 to share about his work as well as point to opportunities we might have to part-ner with him and his team. Plan to be here that night at 6:00 in the sanctu-ary to hear and meet Travis, and to honor the legacy of Drew Harrod!

DEFENDING OUR FAITH
We live in a post-Christian America. Only nine per-cent of American adults and only 19 percent of Christians hold a Biblical world view, so it is vital that Christians be prepared to confront heresy, apostasy, and skepticism of fundamental Christian beliefs. Christians today must, in the words of the Apostle Peter, “always be prepared to give an an-swer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (I Peter 3:15, NIV). It is not enough for Christians to know what they be-lieve; they must know why they believe what they believe. This is particularly true for young people going off to college where professors are five times more likely to be professing atheists than the gen-eral population. If you are a young person of high school/college age or the parent or grandparent of a young person preparing to go out into the world, we invite you to participate in an eight-week training program de-signed to prepare you to defend your faith in a skeptical world. For one hour on eight Wednesday evenings beginning on September 12
th, Paul Wilms
will lead participants to examine why we are Chris-tians, why we believe God exists, why we can trust the reliability of the Gospels, and learn how to an-swer common societal criticisms of Christ and Christians. Sessions begin on Wednesday, September 12
th,
and end on November 14th, (no sessions on Octo-
ber 31st and November 7
th). Sessions will begin
promptly at 6:30 and end at 7:30 p.m. Space is limited to 10 people and priority will be given to high school and college age students and to adults prepared to equip young people to defend their faith. If demand warrants, a second session will be offered in the Spring. Sign-up in the church foyer.
