Dubai Smart Government Department (DSG) has announced the launch of CloudOne, a smart infrastructure cloud service for Dubai government entities, during its participation at this year’s edition of GITEX Technology Week 2015.

According to DSG, the initiative follows the vision and directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to prioritise government integration and provide optimal leverage of government resources.

DSG highlights that a shared

smart infrastructure will allow all Dubai government entities to easily access Information Technology (IT) resources – saving them money and effort from establishing these resources individually.

Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General, Dubai Smart Government Department, said, “The platform offers a flexible, virtual operating environment to serve every government entity instead of having to own separate IT infrastructures. the need to wait for purchasing, supply and operating procedures. According to him, government entities can also benefit from DSG’s distinctive experiences and the updated components of CloudOne, which DSG will continue to update in line with technology cycles.

CloudOne is a pool of computing devices including CPUs, RAM, HDDs space, network services and security systems and firewalling. DSG highlights that it can also provide IT services as per the needs of government entities, such as multi-tenant processing of data, memory, storage and networks.

Another key feature of CloudOne, according to DSG, is its capability of providing on-demand access and control of networks, servers, storage, and security, in addition to maximum asset utilisation. It also has a shared disaster recovery site (SDRS) which integrates the systems of 28 local government entities. In addition, CloudOne has a messaging and collaboration system, which is an integrated system of unified messaging and collaboration services across Dubai government entities, which currently connects 36 government entities and hosts 26 government sites online.

Fostering the next generation of regional innovators, about 150 people have attended the largest-ever Google CSI Lab in the Middle East and Africa at GITEX Technology Week 2015.

Participants met with Google employees from around the world to learn how to tackle complex problems and encourage an innovation culture within their own organisations using a user-centred, prototype-driven design process.

“Google CSI Lab is a Google Methodology to develop an innovation mindset inside

any company. It gives a great opportunity for participants to tackle complex problems and foster a real innovation culture in their company or organization. There is no real winner, but just a fun competition to get people excited to go through the process and better understand how they could implement it in their own organisation,” said Abdel Wahed Bendaoua, Google for Work.
