What will you be doing special at this year’s Gitex and what are you showcasing?Nexthink will be showcasing the latest version of our solution Nexthink V6. Nexthink will be present at GITEX on three partner booths: Abrar Consulting, Exceed Gulf and ixtel

If you have participated at Gitex before, what is the relevance of this show to your business in the region?GITEX is the most relevant annual ICT event in the region that brings together thought leaders and decision makers who are looking for the latest technologies and

solutions. Nexthink takes the opportunity at GITEX to meet face to face with customers and partners for strategic account planning sessions.

If this is your first time, what are the reasons for participating?

Nexthink has participated in GITEX with partners for the past few years. Each year the show gets even bigger and Nexthink

has more features and benefits to show off to prospects and customers on-site.

Does Gitex help you connect with your customers and partners?Yes, GITEX helps us connect with our partners and customers. Partners and customers need to be reassured that they made the right decision in choosing Nexthink, and we will do our best to accompany them throughout the sales cycle and beyond.

What kind of IT trends do you expect to have an impact on the regional ICT industry over the next 12-18 months? With over 2.2 billion smartphone users worldwide, the mobile market easily outnumbers the broadband Internet market. This, combined with advances in smartphone technology, means the mobile device is the future of all advertising. As device manufacturers provide handsets with embedded applications such as Facebook and You Tube, the groundwork has been laid for greater UGC (user generated content) and as such, it will become the ultimate advertising platform that will reside in people’s pockets, no matter where they are or when they access their phones.

Meraas and AliCloud, Alibaba Group’s cloud computing subsidiary, launches Yvolv, the joint venture set up between the two companies during the GITEX Technology Week.

The agreement to set up Yvolv, a new technology enterprise that offers customised solutions in cloud computing, digital consulting, systems integration, entrepreneurship and

training to private companies and government institutions in the MENA region, was signed in May 2015 between Abdulwahab Al Halabi, Group Chief Investment Officer of Meraas and Sicheng Yu, General Manager of AliCloud International at Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou, China.

Abdulwahab Al Halabi, Group CIO, Meraas, says, “In line with the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform the emirate into a Smart City, we have partnered with AliCloud to establish Yvolv in Dubai.

“With our new venture focused on the technology sector, GITEX is the ideal platform to officially reveal the joint venture brand, Yvolv, and

announce the commencement of its operations. This exhibition convenes big players in the arena that we consider as our target audience – both as partners and customers. We look forward to a mutually beneficial interaction at this year’s GITEX Technology Week where we will introduce some of Yvolv’s products and services to the market and discuss potential projects for the future.”

The third day of GITEX Global Leaders’ Summit will also see a joint session on “Driving the transformation to Data Technology” where Abdul Wahab Al-Halabi and Sicheng (Ethan) Yu will unveil Yvolv and discuss ways to putting the customer experience first while exploiting opportunities that data technology offers.

Following the news of the company’s move to acquire storage firm EMC, Dell’s presence at GITEX centres on being ‘future ready’. The firm is keen to stress that it has broadened its offerings beyond PCs and hardware, and Shams Hasan, Enterprise Product Manager, Dell Middle East, believes the company has made huge strides in shifting to being a services-oriented firm. “In the last year or two, Dell has undergone a rapid transformation,

keeping pace with the evolution of business environments, especially for the Middle East,” he said. “Last year dell we came with a theme that was still very silo-based, full of servers, networks and storage. When you go around our stand this year you will see three main observations. Firstly, that Dell is for first time ever leading our fully consolidated distribution channel. Secondly, our full solutions can now tackle things from a business perspective, including our IoT solutions, security, services, backup

and recovery. These all encompass end-to-end holistic solutions. Hasan went on to highlight how the company’s GITEX stand reflects the way the company does business. “It’s a journey,” he said. “The stand starts off with the edge. What do businesses firstly care about? Security and services. Then as you go in, we’re talking networks, storage, infrastructure, then mega trends. It a journey in a maturing business environment and enterprises need a

vendor that can give them that.”He is also enthused by the Middle East’s progress and integrity in terms of cloud adoption. “Some trends that we’ve already talked about are now being executed here, and cloud stands out among these,” he said. “The region is seeing a lot of private cloud implementations. The market hasn’t fallen into the trap of trying to execute things on a buzzword. As a vendor and human being, I’m happy that the Middle East is practical in private cloud projects, being driven by aspirations and not going off on tangents based on buzzwords. This speaks to the region’s increasing maturity“Hyper-converged is of course another big trend. How can we keep our infrastructure rapidly growing and evolving with business change? It needs to be flexible and scalable. Another important trend today is security. Beforehand it was considered to be a case of bits and bytes, being stitched together. Now customers are taking a step back and giving it a strategic look, realising that they need less pieces for simplicity.”Hasan was keen to stress that organisations need to balance innovation with caution in delivering scalable solutions for their enterprise. “We will see a rise in open technology,” he said. “’Future-ready’ is the key phrase. We need top investments in technology today that work with the past and are ready to work with the future.”
