Here’s an idea: Design the smallest, fastest, smartest

LaserJets ever.

The world’s most preferred printers: Worldwide printer market share, and HP printer brand awareness, consideration, and preference study in 9 markets 2014. 1Based on HP internal testing of predecessor devices completed 1/2015 or published information and subject to device settings. Actual results may vary. Faster refers to First Page Out Time (FPOT). For energy efficiency, the HP M252 is 15%, HP M277 is 16% and the HP M553 is 53% lower versus predecessor. For details see hp.com/go/ljclaims © Copyright 2015 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

We started with a blank page and asked “What do businesses need now?” The result is the all-new HP LaserJets, built around a breakthrough in toner chemistry. Thanks to new Original HP Toner with JetIntelligence, the new LaserJets are up to 40% smaller, up to 40% faster and use up to 53% less energy.1

HP...and this year’s GITEX we have extended it to our monochrome printers which also sport precision black toner, leading to more yields per cartridge,” says Pawel Miskiewicz, Print H/W category manager, HP Middle East.

He adds that this new laser jet technology from HP enabled higher yields, improves the printer performance and brings new security features. “Some of these devices consume 40 percent less power and are much smaller in form factor. What we have done is to take the technology from HP notebooks and extend it to printers to make it more secure with new feature such as HP Sure Start, Secure White Listing and Run-Time Intrusion Detection. All these devices come pre-installed with toners, which supports anti-fraud technology and

anti-virus like capabilities so that hackers can’t use printers to gain access to corporate networks,” says Miszkiewicz.

The new line-up of laser jet printers and MFPs at the show include HP LaserJet Pro M402 series, which is a monochrome printer targeted at compact workspaces, and Pro M452 series that delivers fast colour printing performance with up to 48 percent faster first page out than its predecessor. Also on

the display is HP colour LaserJet Pro MFP M477 series, which offers dual-sides scanning and support for documents workflows, including scan to email, folder, USB and cloud capabilities.

“With these devices, we are continuing our effort to help secure their print environment, from boot up to shut down, by bringing in built-in security features to the Pro series. The new printers are ideal for small and work teams with 3-10 users printing up to 4,000 pages a month,” says Misckiewicz.

Globally, the sluggishness in the PC market has spilled over to the printing market, affecting sales, but Misckiewicz says it hasn’t had an impact on the Middle East market. “What is really affecting the market is the issue of parallel imports from Asia-Pacific with strengthening of the US dollar, and we are working with local authorities to address this issue,” he adds.

there are great opportunities in the field of connectivity. “More and more people are getting connected. In this region, smartphone penetration has been a big factor and there is a strong demand when it comes to connectivity. Digital data is another trend that we will be focusing on in the future. We’d also like to look into creating an environment where people can store their data, and give them ways of securely and easily accessing these data.

“Smart Cities are, of course, another major trend that we’d like to capitalise on. There are a lot of opportunities in that space because it will raise the demand for storing more digital content. WD can be instrumental in ensuring that the digital security data, images and other files are stored and backed up securely,” he adds.

What will you be doing special at this year’s GITEX and what are you showcasing? At this year’s edition of GITEX, Eyefi will be highlighting the latest additions to its portfolio of photo management apps and services; we’ve recently augmented our Wi-Fi SD product line and Eyefi Cloud with new, exciting solutions and features, all of which are designed to work in tandem and automate most of the processes photographers have to go through. We will also spotlight recent developments: Eyefi now supports the latest Wi-Fi cameras from leading manufacturers, circumventing the need for photographers to use a mix of camera-specific apps to

transfer photos to a computer. Instead, Eyefi’s smart apps automatically download photos from any device and push them to Eyefi Cloud, where they are consolidated and organised with other photos and videos.

Together, Eyefi Mobi cards, mobile apps, and Eyefi Cloud are now capable of consolidating, organising, syncing, and archiving images, and significantly reducing the time it takes to manage, find, and share photographs and videos.

If this is your first time, what are the reasons for participating? This year marks Eyefi’s first outing at GITEX, and we are here with our regional distributors, StreamPort Media. We opted to participate at GITEX not just because of the reputation the event enjoys for assimilating the latest in the tech world in one place, but also because the market for WiFi SD cards in the Middle East is growing, owing to the relatively new trend of sharing photographs and videos on social media, which has scaled up the market for our solutions. Today, Eyefi is the only photo-management solution that works from the moment of capture, automatically transferring and organising all images and videos into a unified collection,

regardless of which camera they originated in.

Does GITEX help you connect with your customers and partners? We see GITEX as the perfect platform to connect with our partners, the press, and our customers within the region. It offers a far-reaching platform for new announcements, not to mention, the event effectively and efficiently brings the latest in a rapidly-evolving tech environment under one roof. And from what we understand, GITEX is getting better with age, with its reach growing further and wider each year.

What kind of IT trends do you expect to have an impact on the regional ICT industry over the next 12-18 months?Regional economic indicators definitely suggest the ICT sector is gearing up for a strong performance over the next two years; the need for uninterrupted, mobile connectivity is rising. No matter the device, consumers are in the market for connected technology. In terms of the market for photo-management solutions, the increased proliferation of social media channels in the Middle East is heavily influencing users to share their photos and videos on these channels, thus expanding the

market for efficient and capable photo management solutions.

Do you have plans to come back to the show next year? GITEX is a strong platform, with a wide audience and a growing appeal, evidence of which we have seen in person this year. We are definitely open to possibility of returning next year, should things work out. In spite of being a relatively fresh entrant in the region’s market, we plan to be a part of it for a long time to come, and participating in what is essentially the region’s biggest event is definitely part of our plans.

What are some of the company plans for the next few months? Our objective has always been to help photographers focus on taking great photos while we take care of the rest. And in line with this we will be introducing features to our solutions that automate many of the manual processes photographers have to go through and will continue to work towards comprehensively supporting their photography needs. We see a strong interest in our photo management apps and services – specifically, our Wi-Fi SD cards and, more recently, Eyefi Cloud – and we plan to continue to grow the capabilities of our apps and services.

UAE consumers, businesses, merchants, banks, forex exchanges, and even government service providers will be handling far less cash by 2020, according to the digital payments service company, Trriple.

Annually, the UAE counts $ 230 billion in consumer payments to 170 government entities and more than 350,000 merchants. And yet

cash accounts for more than 75% of all transactions in the Emirates, a number the company says is set to plunge as demand increases for a wide range of payment services, from mobile wallets and mobile point-of-sale to electronic payments and global money transfers.

Trriple, a startup born in the UAE, is a customer-centric digital payments service provider whose payments platform enables both the unbanked using cash, and the banked using cards, to be able to make mobile payments on a mass scale.

“We are poised to usher in the ‘cashless society’ here in the UAE,” says Ahmed Fasih Akhtar,

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Trriple, on the sidelines of the 35th Annual GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, an event the company is sponsoring.

“By 2020, the UAE will be realizing an ‘anytime, anyplace’ approach to payments, a fascinating new dynamic that will allow for greater economic inclusion of the unbanked and under-banked across the country. We see strong nationwide demand for a multipurpose, cross-bank mobile wallet,” Akhtar adds.

In order to best support the payment demands of the UAE, Trriple has brought together a strategic partnership eco-system

composed of best-in-class technology organisations, to include global giant, Ericsson. These partnerships will allow Trriple to leverage their core competencies in m-commerce technology, mobile point-of-sale technology, high volume transaction processing, and digital ID verifications.

Trriple, as a bank-led mobile wallet provider has also partnered with major UAE banks to facilitate digital payments on its platform.

According to Cap Gemini’s World Payments Report 2014, mobile payments from 2011-2015 are expected to grow more than 60 percent to 47 billion transactions.
