INSTALLATION I WHEN INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT. . .

1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition.

2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the product to make sure the product is suitable for your application.

3. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician.

4. After installation is complete, check out product operation as provided in these instructions.

Disconnect power supply before beginning Instal-

lation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.

The pool and spa heater control may be mounted either vertically or horizontally on a wall or panel, or directly on a tank. The device may be installed with the control and bulb as far apart as the capillary tube will permit.

The manufacturer usually provides a tapping for inser- tion of the control’s sensing element. This tapping is located at a point where pool water temperature can be measured. Follow the instructionsfurnished by the heater manufacturer, if available, or use the procedure below.

LOCATION The control bulb should be located in the return-water

header of the heater. No more tubing than needed should be uncoiled. Sharp

or repeated bending of the tubing may cause damage. If the tubing is subjected to vibration, it should be

protected against wear where it comes :n contact with another surface.

MOUNTING Fasten the control to a convenient wall or panel using

two screws through the stud mounts or brackets.

MOUNTING REMOTE BULB MODELS The remote temperature-sensing bulb can be installed

either in an immersion well (Fig. 2) that extends into the boiler or tank. or it can be directly immersed in the liquid.

For installations not using a well, secure the remote bulb with a tubing compression fitting (Fig. 3). A flared bulb may be secured with a bulb compression fitting (Fig. 4).

IMPORTANT with or without immersion

well. Well, if used, must fit sensing bulb snugly for good thermal response. Insert bulb until it rests against bottom of well, then hold it there while tightening the tubing clamp.

Well, bulb compression fitting, or capillary com- pression fitting must be ordered separately. Sizes available: l/2 in., 3/4 in. NPT spud. Well, if used, must fit sensing bulb snugly for good thermal response.

If the system is filled, drain system to a point below the tapping, or wherever the sensing bulb is to be installed.

NOTE: Avoid making sharp bends or kinks in the capillary. Bends should be no sharper than 1 inch radius.

After installing, carefully coil excess capillary at the bottom of the control.

USING IMMERSION WELL (Fig. 2) 1. Screw the well into the boiler or pipe tapping. 2. Insert bulb in well, pushing tubing until bulb bottoms

in well. 3. Attach retainer clamp to end of well spud. Loosen

draw nut and spread jaws of clamp with screwdriver if necessary. See Fig. 2.

4. With retainer clamp attached to well spud (be sure jaws of clamp hookover ridge at end of spud, as shown at point “A”), adjust tubing to fit through retainer clamp groove, as shown at point “B.”

5. Tighten draw nut so that retainer clamp is firmly attached to well spud and tubing is held securely in place.

Do not secure draw nut so tightly that retainer clamp could collapse tubing.

USING CAPILLARY COMPRESSION FITTING (Fig. 3)

1. Screw fitting into tapping. 2. Place packing nut on tubing. 3. Slide bulb completely through fitting. 4. Place composition disc and 4 slotted brass washers

on tubing in the order shown in Fig. 3. Turn brass washers so that slots are 180 degrees apart

5. Insert seal assembly in fitting and tighten packing nut.

USING BULB COMPRESSION FITTING 1. Screw the fitting into tapping. 2. Slide sealing washer onto flared bulb (Fig. 4). 3. Insert bulb into compression fitting until bulb

bottoms. 4. Slide split sleeve into fitting. 5. Place clamps A and 6 on assembly so that sleeve is

drawn into fitting when screws are tightened. NOTE: Make sure that nub on clamp A engages space between sleeve and clamp.

6. Tighten clamp screws evenly.

SETTING AND CHECKOUT SETTING

Control range for the LS8008A varies by model, with a fixed differentral of 2 F [l.l C] (nominal). Minimum setting is at limit of clockwise rotation; maximum setting is at limit of counterclockwise rotation. Set point changes approximately 10 F [5.5 C] for every 42.0 degrees of angular rotation (Fig. 7).

Because systems differ, the correct setting for one system may not apply to another. In all cases the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations for setting should be followed.

CHECKOUT Always conduct a thorough checkout when the installa-

tion is complete. Make sure the control has been installed and adjusted properly by putting it into operation and observing at least one complete cycle.
