• This project is intended to help students understand the importance of pillars (or principles) to the success of a group or society, and how an individual’s own principles can keep him/her grounded and on task. Without these pillars in our lives, many of us would not be able to sustain the balance we need to succeed.

5 Pillars of Me:Reversible Foldable• Make a reversible foldable that features:

• The 5 Pillars of IslamAND

• The 5 Pillars of Me• Use your answers on your Bellringer to choose 5 principles or

pillars that you believe in or live your life by. Explain them in 1-2 sentences.

• What you’ll need:

• 8.5 x 11 in blank paper

• Scissors (shared)

• Markers/colored pencils

• Ruler (optional)

Make a list of 5 “Pillars of Me”. These should be principles that you live your life by. (ex: Family, Baseball, Music, Honesty, Faith, etc).

Be ready to explain each one.

So how do you make this awesome

foldable???

1. Watch and listen carefully to the next

few slides.

1. Pay close attention so you know

what you are doing BEFORE YOU

START!

Step 1

• Fold your blank paper in half lengthwise

Step 2• Vertically measure

and mark 5 even tabs/windows.

• Hint – if you have a ruler, mark exactly 2.2 inches from top-to-bottom.

• You will eventually cut these lines…but don’t cut yet ;)

Step 3• Measure and mark a

straight line down the middle of the folded page.

STEP 4• Design your cover.

• Be creative – use your imagination.

• Make sure that the RIGHT side of the page (ISLAM) and the LEFT side of the page (ME) are written upside down from each other.

When your cover is complete, cut the cover into 5 tabs following the lines you drew during Step 2

IMPORTANTONLY CUT THE COVER SHEET. Do not

cut both sides of the paper.

1. Write each PILLAR of Islam on its own window in a complete sentence.

2. Then write a description of the pillar in at least 1 complete sentence.

1. Flip the paper over and begin on the “5 Pillars of Me”.

2. Write each PILLAR of you on its own window in a complete sentence.

3. Then write a description of the pillar in at least 1 complete sentence.

You will see the corresponding Islam pillar upside down when you open each window.
