Manager Notes
Sunday April 24th
arrived March 20th and brought with it our great Florida weather. March also brought us some new residents ~ Welcome to Lake Hammock. April will see some of our Winter Residents returning to their homes up North. Have a great summer and we will see you in the Fall/Winter.
Congratulations to Betty Rhoades for winning the 22” LCD TV at our First Resales’ Our
residents and ‘future’ residents enjoyed hot dogs, cold drinks and sides from Sunny’s Restaurant
as they toured our resale homes.
Reminders…..
It is that time of the year to check our homes, carports and lamp posts to see if they are in need of cleaning and/or repairs. By keeping your carport clean and free of clutter, as well as keeping your house and lamp post clean and painted it keeps our Village looking attractive and inviting to new residents. I hear over and over what “a nice park we have, how it is so clean”…let’s keep hearing those compliments.
PLEASE watch your speed and ask your guests to obey the 15 MPH speed limit, and stop at the Stop Signs. We have had several incidents with the speeding problem and now outside our back gate some of the residents have complained to the HC Police Dept. about residents speeding on Surry Street.
Solicitors’ … When a solicitor comes to your door or you see them going door to door, PLEASE call the Police. Considering the last few times we have had solicitors and I have called the police, arrests were made. I also want to thank one of our residents who on several occasions have called the police because of solicitors in the park…. All residents should follow his lead…CALL THE POLICE when you see solicitors in the park! This is not only because we do not allow solicitors; it for your safety and the safety of all residents.

April Is:
Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of love, and she gave her name to the month of
April. The Romans gave their thoughts over first to war (this is probably why
March comes before April) and then to love. In the northern latitudes spring is
finally beginning to assert itself. Flowering bulbs bloom and a joyous productive
activity begins - to plant, to sow, and to fertilize.
Yet on the lips of many is the old saying "April showers bring May flowers." The
chilly winds and damp weather are not yet done. April then is a hopeful month
showing the promise of beauty in the not too distant future.
April Symbols DAISY and the sweet pea are the flowers of the month. The birthstone is the
diamond
Some April Trivia for You:
1. The American Revolutionary War began on April 19, 1775.
2. On April 3, 1860 the Pony Express began.
3. On April 9, 1865 General Robert E. Lee commander of the Confederate Army
surrendered to U.S. Grant and the official end of the American Civil War took
place.
4. April 30, 1939 television first publicly broadcast, from the Empire State
Building.

Holidays in April
April Fools' Day, or All Fools' Day, is celebrated on April 1st as a day for practical
jokes, pranks and hoaxes. No one knows where the custom began, but some
historians believe it started in France. They had a New Year's festival that was
celebrated from March 25 to April 1, and they would then exchange gifts. But,
later, King James IV changed the holiday to January 1 for New Years. The people
that still celebrated it April 1 were called 'April fish' and sent mock presents.
Easter is almost always in April, and, with it comes other Christian celebrations
such as Palm Sunday (April 17th), Maundy Thursday (April 21st), and Good Friday
(April 22nd).
Patriot's Day is celebrated on the third Monday in April. It commemorates the
Battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. The Revolutionary War began
there on April 19, 1775 and ended in Yorktown on October 19, 1781 when Cornwallis
surrendered to George Washington. A formal treaty ending the war was not signed
until 1783.
Earth Day is a global holiday celebrated as a day to bring awareness and
appreciation for the Earth and its environment. It is celebrated internationally on
the first day of Spring in March, usually on March 20th or 21st and in some places
on April 22nd. It doesn't matter which day you celebrate (or celebrate both!)
because it is the focus on saving the earth's environment that should be
celebrated every day of the year!
Arbor Day Arbor means "tree" in Latin. Arbor Day is a special day that has been
set aside for planting and caring for trees. The first Arbor Day was celebrated in
Nebraska on April 10, 1872. It was started by J. Sterling Morton, a Nebraska
newspaper publisher who encouraged Nebraskans to plant trees to beautify and
enrich the treeless state. He offered prizes for the most trees planted;
over a million trees were planted on that first Arbor Day. After his death, the
legislature made April 22, the legal holiday for Arbor Day.

Eggs are a symbol of the new life that returns to nature at
Easter Time. The custom of exchanging eggs began long
before Easter was celebrated. It was a custom of the
Egyptians and the Persians. They exchanged eggs decorated in
Spring colors. They believed Earth hatched from an egg which
contributed to this custom. Early Christians used red colored
eggs to symbolize the Resurrection. In England they began writing messages and
dates on their eggs and exchanging them with friends and loved ones. In the
1800's, candied eggs were made. They were open on one end and a scene was put
inside. They were used as table centerpieces.
Rabbits symbolized new life and rebirth in ancient Egypt. They considered it a
symbol of the moon as the moon determines the date of Easter. The Easter
Bunny's visit is based upon a German Legend. The legend goes that a poor woman
decorated eggs for her children to find during a famine. At the moment they found
them, they looked up to see a big bunny hopping away.
All I Need To Know About Life I Learned From the Easter Bunny
Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket
Walk softly and carry a big carrot
Everyone needs a friend who is all ears
There’s no such thing as too much candy
All work and no play can make you a basket case
A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention
Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day
Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits
Some body parts should be floppy
Keep your paws off other people’s jellybeans
Good things come in small sugar coated packages
The grass is always greener in someone else’s basket
An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare
Come out of your shell to show your true colors

From the moment father Bud Turpin keels over at the breakfast table right on
through his burial in the "Gentleman Farmer" coffin, the show makes it clear that
there’s more to living and dying in the Bible Belt than you can shake a corn dog at.
Set somewhere south of the Mason Dixon line, we are told the story of father
Turpin’s funeral and its aftermath, not to mention the dizzying array of crazies
who are attached to him. Dearly Departed is the zaniest show you will ever see.
