Dear Friends,

We are well into the current fiscal and have almost completed five months.

It has been a rather challenging start to the year, with almost all businesses struggling to scale up the growth trajectory. Strong head winds in the form of Global Trade Disputes, Protracted Truckers Strike, Depreciating Rupee, Rising Oil Prices, etc., have impacted the business. The Private Sector Capex Cycle is yet to kick off in a meaningful way, though the decibel level on such discussions have significantly gone up, especially in the steel sector.

However, the silver lining for the company is the uptick in order bookings in recent weeks, which gives me hope that things will definitely pick up in the second half of the year. The ambiguity in Solar Sector related to safeguard duties is hampering the smooth progress of various awarded projects. As we have a huge dependence on this Sector across three of our BUs, we faced the heat in the first four months; but are hopeful that clarity will emerge and the pace of activity will accelerate soon .

With General Elections about nine months away, I am sure we will also see a lot more government sponsored projects being announced, which should give newer opportunities. With the monsoon being generally good across the country, a positive impact on the GDP would also help.

The Exports BU has been the STAR so far, and the weak rupee has further improved both, competitiveness and profitability in this business. With strong growth being witnessed in USA, and many European Countries now being more favourably inclined towards India, I am certain, that the current positive trend will continue to get stronger.

On the Innovation and New Product Development fronts, our relentless pursuit of technology led newer products and solutions marches on, as we continue to write new patents and launch exciting products across all segments. I am fully convinced that Raychem RPG has to remain the technology leader in its chosen lines of business, hence the company’s spend on R&D continues to be significantly high.

I continue to remain optimistic, both about the short term and long-term prospects, for Raychem RPG and again take this opportunity to thank each one of you for your continued patronage.

The LV Distribution Story | 2016 - 2018Smart Compact Feeder Pillar - Rayfeed

The NeedLooking at the current practices by most of the utilities across India and capturing the Voice of Customers, EPD realized that there were common issues being faced by customers in terms of loose connections, over heating (due to crimping connections), theft of energy (commercial loss) and technical losses.

Market ScopeThe LV Distribution Market is largely fragmented. EPD, with its reach across India in all customer base segments, found a huge opportunity in introducing feeder pillar in 2016.

The JourneyThere were various challenges in the market place linked to technology and quality of the system. Raychem RPG was

first in the industry to introduce Steel Reinforced FRPP Feeder Pillars, having superior strength and environment protection, particularly for the coastal areas.

Smart Compact Feeder Pillar with Vertical Switch Fuse Units (SFU) was an added feather in the cap, reducing the footprint up to 40%. Cities with unavailability of space and soaring property rates, made this innovative solution a great help to Utilities. Compact Feeder Pillars are designed to suit Smart Cities with an appealing aesthetic look.

With in-house expertise and support of Raychem Innovation Centre, Raychem RPG evolved from making simpler Distribution Boxes and Service Pillars upto 200 A to panels upto 4000 A.

Manufacturing Set-upPost the acquisition, Raychem RPG set up a state- of- art facility for HV Disconnectors at Halol, near Vadodara, Gujarat. The facility is approved by PGCIL.

The complete range from 33KV to 420KV, HV Disconnectors have very good scope in the domestic and export markets. Moreover, with the previously large installed base of Hivelm Disconnectors, there is excellent opportunity for replacing, retrofitting and overhauling.

New Acquisition | New Business - 2017High Voltage Disconnectors

The AcquisitionTo align with EPD’s focus on providing solutions in improving power reliability and lowering power losses, in early February of 2017, the Company announced its acquisition of Chennai-based Hi-Velm Industries (pioneer of switching technology) manufacturing EHV isolators and disconnectors for the power industry. The acquisition provided a strategic advantage, adding a new product line in the EPD portfolio and strengthening Raychem RPG’s presence in India’s Extra High Voltage Market.

HV Disconnectors are closely aligned with the existing business of EPD that provides High voltage Connection Systems & Cable Accessories for substations and transmission of power.

A Successful Case Study - PGCIL KhammamPGCIL placed an order for conversion of mechanically to electrically gang Disconnector by replacing motor operating mechanism at Khammam Substation in Telangana State in Southern India.The scope included dismantling of old boxes, laying of cables and installing new mechanism boxes. The major challenge lay in the limited shut down time provided by the authorities. Raychem RPG’s team of service engineers completed the job and commissioned the Disconnectors in the short time frame provided. This was greatly appreciated by PGCIL, Khammam.

Enhancing the List of Product ApprovalsInternational Business Division (IBD) is one of the Strategic Business Units of Raychem RPG. IBD thrives in providing customer delight with its ability to offer world wide one stop solution in Cable Management, Asset Protection and Build to Print.

Product Approval is the lifeline that enables Raychem RPG in providing high standard solutions in the international market in various business segments.

RAISING THE BAR

Traditional storage plus solar (PV) applications have involved the coupling of independent storage and PV inverters at an AC bus, or alternatively the use of multi-input hybrid inverters. The new cost-effective approach of coupling energy storage to existing PV arrays with a DC-to-DC converter can help maximize production and profits for existing and new utility-scale installations. This new approach leads to higher round trip efficiencies and lower cost of integration with exiting PV arrays, and at the same time, opens up new use cases not possible with traditional AC-coupled storage.

The DC-to-DC option is an attractive option for coupling energy storage with existing PV in many cases. Its ease and reduced cost of installation combined with its ability to bring online all additional value streams make it particularly attractive for the over 20 GW of installed utility-scale PV.

Raychem RPG and Dynapower have signed an agreement to bring Dynapower Energy Storage inverters, DC-DC converters and fully integrated Energy Storage Systems to India.

I am line leader in the Insulator Product line. We received a large quantity order for a new product with stringent timeline and LD Clause. Since it was a new product, it had

to undergo product validation with PMG followed by engaging the Supply Chain Management team in developing the product. By the time the prototypes were approved, we had a very short time frame in getting the product ready without levy of LD.

At that time the production capacity was 20,000 pieces per month and the demand was for 50,000 pieces per month. We streamlined the activities through series of Kaizens and using tools like Lean, VSM, Space Reduction, Spaghetti Diagram, etc., completed the project in time. It was a team effort and the customer was fully satisfied, placing repeat orders of much higher quantities.

When we put our customers in the middle of all that we do, we are able to match customer demands by redefining processes and refining the quality of our products and services.

“I take care of production activities of product line - Rayvolve.

Rayvolve product line was earlier managed by TE Connectivity, China, the operations of which got migrated to India in late 2016. After the initial set up and transfer of operations to India, supported by TE Connectivity, our company had the challenge and ownership of meeting customer demands starting with 25,000 per month to 50,000 per month.

To meet the challenge of increased capacity, month on month, our team utilized the tools and techniques developed in the past by practicing TPM & Kaizen. It helped us structure our processes and remove bottle necks, as well as, identify the value added activities. It helped us to balance the line of operations by removing the non-value activities to meet customer demands.

Another major constraint we faced in mid-2017 were issues with WIP on the shop floor. Along with SMTs and Operators, we carried out a simulation on the line with several options till we came up with the right single-piece flow technique. The production line got stabilized and we were ready to meet the requirements of our customers.

My team and I are always ready to take up challenges thrown to us by our customers. Through customer centric approach, we can give optimal output at all times.”

The Solar & Energy Storage Business Unit of Raychem RPG partnered with EPC Contractor, Progen Energy Solutions in setting up 2.4MW AC Ground Mount Project for GEA BGR Energy Systems in the State of Karnataka.

Raychem RPG’s scope of supply included Suntech Solar Modules and Fronius Inverters. The system became operational in March 2018 and upto July 2018, the average generation of solar power was 6.2 units per day per KWH.

Bremmer has been an expert in guiding corporates and government bodies to anticipate political risk and how it may impact their financial and social well-being.

In his conversation with RPG leaders, Bremmer delved into some global trends, emerging areas of disruption that can be managed better, especially in those areas in which the group has interests. Enjoying a special moment with Chairman Harsh Goenka, he expressed his keen appreciation for the latter’s extensive and rich art collection.

Seniority Celebrates International Yoga Day On International Yoga Day, the largest congregation of senior citizens from Pune came together to commemorate the spirit of the age-old practice of Yoga. This assembly of senior citizens, aptly termed Rejuvenate By Seniority witnessed more than 300 senior citizens, and was their largest gathering that also attempted to create a record in the Limca Book of Records. The grand event was organised at Jogger’s Park, Kalyani Nagar, Pune from 7- 9 am and was graced by the presence of Shri Jagdish Tukaram Mulik, MLA, and Shri Mohan Joshi, renowned Indian film, television

CEAT Road Runners on the Right TrackThe Ceat Road Runners or CRR club was formed as an effort towards adopting a healthy lifestyle and providing a platform to employees of Ceat Halol to bond over a common cause. The journey started with 40 participants at the 2016 Vadodara International Marathon where many first timers registered for the 5-km run. With regular practice, the numbers rose steeply in 2017 with the total number of participants growing to 85, many of them even registering for the 10-km and half marathon stints. This year’s Vadodara Marathon saw a record number of Ceat employees– 140 CRR!

Women Propelling IndiaA Seminar & Panel Discussion organized by FICCI was held at RPG House on May 28. Chief Guest & Keynote Speaker, Ms. Pankaja Munde-Palwe, Minister of Rural Development Women & Child Welfare shared her experience and views on the subject theme. This was followed by a panel discussion with key members from different corporate sectors relating to gender gap, women safety at workplace and economic case for gender equality.

D&I Workshop for Council Members was held in July this year attended by selected members from RPG Group Cos. The workshop included discussions and finalization of plans at company level to foster D&I for this fiscal. It provided members the opportunity to build ownership and create enthusiasm amongst them.
