HE suspension of HOD JMaghlangu, the Head of the TProvincial Department of Health,

w a s a n n o u n c e d o n M o n d a y . This puts the health question of the province in more disarray amidst the announcement that ‘sensitive information’ led to the suspension. There are allegations that Mahlangu is linked to a R120m contract with a company linked to the ANC Youth League. Mr Antony Benadé, DA Provincial Leader said, that the party is concerned over the impact it may have on a Department already in the throes of a crisis. The news team of the Highlands Panorama News also investigated the matter and according to sources and a report in the Sowetan, Premier Mabuza suspended Mahlangu for allegedly awarding a tender for

The awarding of government tenders take place within a legislative framework and this newspaper report and the entire ordeal raises several questions relating to the awarding of the tender. “If Premier Mabuza suspended HOD Mahlangu due to irregular tender procedures, then the suspension and subesequent investigations and actions are legitimate and

correct. If so, it must be determined if the reported links of the said company with the ANCYL and its president Julius Malema had played a role in the company receiving the R120 million tender in the first place, said Mr Anthony Benade. There was dissatisfaction in the tender process in the inner circle of negotiations as the Premier put forward another company to receive the tender. The snubbing of the Premier cannot be legal grounds for suspension ei ther. The provincial

administration cannot afford to have a Head of Department suspended and possibly dismissed, only to find itself wrapped up in costly litigation and millions in golden handshake pay-outs.The DA is one of the political parties that will demand an investigation and write a formal parliamentary question to the MEC for health, Dr Clifford Mkasi and ask him to investigate the tender process followed in the appointment of Isibonelo Waste Solutions.

getrap het, beskryf net ’n druppel in die emmer wat hierdie predikantspaar oor 33 jaar vermag het.Ds. Venter is op 11 Maart 1978 in die Moedergemeente bevestig en het sy intreepreek op 12 Maart in 1978 gelewer.Daar is op luisteryke skaal afskeid geneem Sondag 30 Oktober 2011. Hy het vanaf die begin ’n passie vir die geskiedenis van die gemeente gehad en dit ook uitgeleef in die restourasie van die Voortrekkerkerkie- en skool asook die Sondagskoolsaal (1980).Onder leiding van ds. Venter het die kerkraad besef dat die kerk dringend gerestoureer moes word. As ’n Nasionale G e d e n k w a a r d i g h e i d m o e s a l l e herstelwerk volgens voorskrif en navorsing gedoen word. Die restourasie van die geboue het twee-en-’n-halfjaar geduur. Die kerk is op 6 September 1986 weer ingebruik geneem.Die restourasiekommissie was ds. Venter, H. Breytenbach, F. Nel, L. v.d. Ley, P. du Bruyn, dr. R. Greyling en dr. G. Trümpelmann.Een van die groot veranderinge was die orrel wat agter in die kerk herbou is. In 2000 het die gemeente hul 150ste Feesjaar herdenk. Essie Esterhuizen het die embleem ontwerp en ook tien waterverfskilderye van die embleem gemaak. Die Feeskomitee was H. Loots, L. Despland, E. Esterhuizen, P. Kruger, A. Treurnicht, ds. Venter, me. T. Weilbach, dr. J. Swanepoel, me. C Malan en G. Beetge. Deur die jare het die gemeente gegroei en vooruit geleef, kinders is gedoop, jongmense is aangeneem en begrafnisse was ook deel van die lewenssiklus. Die Venter gesin se kinders, Hendrik, Bennie en Christien het saam met hul ouers ’n onlosmaakbare deel van Lydenburg geword. Die Venter egpaar gaan nog nie weg uit Lydenburg nie, dus sal vriende hulle nog gereeld raakloop. Maar ’n welverdiende ruskans sal dit gewis wees. In die gedenkblad wat tydens die laaste erediens uitgedeel is het ds. Venter geskryf: “Bly by die waarheid van die Bybel en ons belydenisskrifte. Dit het die toets van baie eeue en baie geleerdes wat dit probeer verander het, deurstaan. Dien die Here met ongeveinsde opregtheid.”

NafiELKE jaar gedurende November begin almal Nafi raak. Die ouens wat saam in die oorlog was, sal weet waarvoor nafi staan. Dit het iets te make met geen ambisie en nog minder belangstelling (interest). So ’n soort gatvolheid, moegheid, luiheid, lyfseer en algemene beneuktheid. Dit begin in November en bereik ’n hoogtepunt net voor die meeste mense in Desember met vakansie vertrek.H ie r by my gaan dit ook so. Almal is moeg gewerk. Almal is moeg vir die ekonomie wat so sukkel. Almal werk hulle byna dood, maar dit lyk asof daar min resultate is.

In tussen he t ons met die nuwe somer donderweer, haelskade en dakke wat lek.By my gaan d i t ook so. Ek kry laaste salaris, want ek kom uit die ou skool - my mense moet eers betaal word en as daar oor is, kry ek. Omdat daar party maande min is, leer ek om spaarsamig te werk.Wat v i r my werk as ek nafi is, is bietjie “shopping”. Amper soos die meeste vrouens eenkeer per maand. Inkopies blyk ook daardie kwaaiheid op te los.So , omdat ek e lke sent omdraai totdat ek dit soos Braille kan lees, het ek bietjie gespaar. Toe bestel ek vir ons ’n weerstasie vir die kantoor (wat ek betaal) en vir my ’n Kindle. Dit is ’n ketoetertjie waarmee mens boeke lees. Intussen wag ek vir my Leserskring boeke. Met die Kindle gaan ek eBoeke koop en geld spaar. Toe spa t d ie moe ilikheid letterlik. Ek sit met ’n geblokte rioolafvoerpyp. Almal

spook, maar die blokkasie is na die munisipale kant toe. Daai rekening moet nog kom. En toe ons almal rondjaag en hardloop om die allervreeslikste stank uit te sorteer, breek my bakkie se deurhandvatsel. En dit is ’n Corsa wat so fensie is dat as jy wegstap, sluit hy homself en maak self sy eie vensters toe. Dis hoekom ek hom gekoop het - hy is grend.Maar nou moet ek links inklim en met my lyf oor die rathefboom klim voor ek kan ry. Onderdeel is bestel en intussen ingesit, maar daai rekening kom ook nog. En d ie I suzu se elektriese ruite werk alweer nie!Saam met a l d ie nafi en armoede sny ek sommer my polse!Kom vakans ie kom!

OCKIE Faul van Lydenburg skryf:Aan die Rooikat Rugbyklub se komitee, spelers, hulle vrouens, meisies en skelmpies.Dit was vir my en Tillie ’n besondere eer om die Rooikatte vir 26 jaar ononderbroke te dien. Gedurende hierdie tydperk het ek saam met die klub baie lief en leed deurgemaak. Ek kan goed onthou hoe die bankrekening gesluit was aangesien daar nie fondse was om die rekening te regverdig nie.Wie sal ooit vergeet dat ons na ’n sekere dag R25000 gemaak het, maar die gelde kon nêrens gewys word nie. Hoe ons gesukkel het om kop bo water te hou nie. Gelukkig deur al hierdie moelike omstandighede het die klub bly staan en is dit nou ’n finansieël gesonde klub. Gedurende my tyd het ons ook “legends” opgelewer.Vergun my asseblief die tyd om net'n paar van hulle te noem: Casper le Grange, Francios Potgieter, Piet Bank, Louis du Preez, Willem du Preez, die Snyders broers, Paul Mare, Johan Berrange, die Oosthuizens broers, Chris van Deventer, Piet du Plessis, Grobbie om maar net ’n paar te noem.Ek sal ook nooit vergeet van die onvergeetlike tye saam met die spanne wanneer ons weg speel en ’n vinnige braai op die berg hou nie.Ek wil graag alle vorige bestuurslede en spanne bedank wat dit vir my so lekker gemaak het om deel te kon gewees het van die Katte. Julle het my gehelp om besondere hoogtes te bereik deur op die bestuur van Laeveld te dien en Afrigter, Keurder en Spanbestuurder van Laeveld spanne te wees. Julle het my gehelp om op die hoogste bestuur van die Pumas te dien. Julle het my gehelp om die Amptelike Verteenwoordiger van die Unie vir die Plattelandsespanne en

Geen mens kan 26 jaar net weggooi nie.Aan die nuwe komitee baie voorspoed vir die seisoen wat voorlê. Ek weet julle sal die span wees om mee rekening te hou in 2012. Ek weet julle gaan julle stemme dik maak. Wie sê ons gaan nie die seisoen wen nie. Baie geluk aan almal wat vereer is vir hul prestasies. Julle is nie gekies omdat die komitee van jou hou nie, maar omdat jy dit regtig verdien. Nogmaals geluk en onthou die uitdaging is om dit volgende seisoen weer te bereik.Maurice, aan jou besonder baie dankie. Ek kon en het baie van jou geleer. Die klub is in goeie hande met jou aan die betuur. Bou so voort jy is die yster van ysters saam met wie ek gedien het. Sal nooit jou warm maak dingetjie vergeet in die wintermaande nie.Laastens nooi ek enige van julle uit sou julle in of deur Richards Baai ry. My nommer en my epos adres is nog dieselfde. Neeltjé Brits skryf:Wenakker is steeds verstom oor die wonderlike bydraes wat deur individue en organisasies gemaak is ten bate van die Wenakker Gholfdag wat op 29 Oktober 2011 plaasgevind het. En as jy gelukkig is moet jy net die paragraaf bo die inskrywingsvorms mooi lees vir die antwoorde, - dis nou in koerante en tydskrifte. Maar met die lotto spoel ’n masjien net ’n klomp nommers uit en jou lewe verander onherroeplik. Jy het geen beheer oor die masjien nie. Die wen van ’n blokkiesraaisel maak ook vir my nogal sin. Dit is leidrade en antwoorde wat iewers wel bevestig kan word. Vir die afgelope 40 jaar vul my ma getrou elke week seker vier blokkiesraaie in. Tot heden en vandag het sy nog nooit iets gewen nie. Dis al ’n spottery in the familie want ’n woordeboek het sy al lankal nie meer nodig nie. Al die antwoorde is in haar hoof gestoor. Van haar kennisse bel haar vir antwoorde. En hulle wen die vakansies, mikrogolfoonde en nuwe woordeboeke,

Waarom is die Britse program Top Gear so suksesvol?DIE Top Gear TV “show” wat hier by ons op Woensdagaande op kanaal 120 om 20:00 gebeeldsend word, het die afgelope paar weke weer tot groot kontroversie gelei.Baie vroom mense kritiseer die drie aanbieders van rassisme en allerhande dinge.Feit is egter dat Topgear een van die mees gewilde TV reekse ooit is en ’n reuse aanhang het. Vergelyk dit bv. met ons eie Lat Wiel -- Gaap.Clarkson en sy makkers sê wat hulle wil en doen wat hulle wil. Hulle noem ’n alkant selfkant persoon ’n moffie, ’n Albaniër ’n rampokker en ’n Meksikaan lui.Met die eerste lewendige Top Gear vertoning in Suid Afrika, het Clarkson met ’n AK47 uit sy motor geklim, want hy het gehoor SA is ’n gewelddadige plek! Mooi man! Baie sensitiewe outjies het nie daarvan gehou nie.Waarom is hulle dan so geweldig populêr en so gehaat tegelykertyd? Dit is omdat hulle hoegenaamd nie polities korrek is nie. Hulle praat reguit en noem ’n “spade” ’n flippen graaf! It just didn't stop.” BODYWORK: “Having seen him on television, I was expecting something smarter,” said a tester. “A bit battered and worn, especially on top.” IMMOBILISER: Doesn't have one. “A big omission,” said all our testers. SEAT: No one could accuse the Clarkson Hubby of not being well-upholstered, but all of our reviewers said they found the seat far too large. THE Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited models in Jeep’s South African line-up now have the run of a new 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine, an all-new interior for 2011 and a new body-coloured hardtop.Available in the Sahara configuration, the two-door Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited are affected. The two new models retain the brand’s go-anywhere philosophy with its removable doors and roofs, and folding windshields and thankfully signature features such as its round headlamps, a seven-slot front grille, trapezoid wheel arches and exposed door hinges remain. A highlight of the Sahara update is its redesigned instrument panel, which Jeep says provides improved ergonomics and is fitted with upgraded materials. The centre stack is new, too, and said to be easier to reach and operate. A multifunction steering wheel with satellite controls for the radio and cruise control is new,

as is the automatic climate control and the addition of 12-volt outlets. Visibility is also improved through the larger rear window. THE year 2011 is an important one for bakkie buyers. Not only has Toyota released the new Hilux, but Ford’s new Ranger – that will also be locally produced – has now been launched in South Africa. According to Ford, the Ranger will be manufactured on three continents and sold to customers in 180 markets.The new range will introduce two new Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel engines and one Duratec petrol unit. Just as important is that payload capacity has gone up, and certain 4x2 models will be able to carry up to 1 200 kg. Depending on the model, certain bakkies will also be equipped with luxuries such as Bluetooth with voice control and a rear-view camera.

New Ford Ranger launchedSOME faults are so obvious and easy to fix that they are just as easily overlooked.A chap with a well-maintained Ford Escort complained that while idling or when moving slowly in rush-hour traffic the engine revs would gradually increase, sometimes alarmingly to more than 4000 before returning to a steady idle. He had owned the car for only a few months and, apart from this fault, it ran well and burned no oil. There was occasional smoke at the exhaust, but he felt it was nothing to worry about. I had a look at the engine and it looked clean enough. Revving it showed no exhaust smoke and he assured me that the oil and filters had been recently changed and that the correct oil had been used. It was only when I went to check the oil level that I noticed the dipstick seemed to be too long for its tube. In fact, it was obviously not the right dipstick. When I pointed this out to the owner, he told me that he had done the oil change himself and had refilled with the recommended 4.5 litres and that the incorrect dipstick would not matter. Well, that’s all right in theory, but it is impossible to get all the oil from an engine by draining it. In fact, up to a litre could remain in the system. This is why to do a complete change a flush is sometimes necessary to get the remains of the old stuff out. The first move was to get the correct dipstick and check the level – which proved to be far too high. Why the wrong one had been used was anybody’s guess. However, with the oil drained to the correct level the auto-revving ceased and everybody was happy. Overfilling the sump need not have any disastrous consequences, but it does depend on by how much excess oil has been added. Oil pressure reading will give no clue because the pump’s pickup will be at the bottom of the sump. Oil pressure drops when there are excessive bearing clearances, or interior wear in the oil pump. But the pumps are designed to have sufficient reserve capacity to allow for normal wear. In the case of excessive overfilling, the webs on the crankshaft will be disturbing the oil at every revolution and this unwanted disturbance may cause oil contamination of the throttle housing and air mass meter. I have often seen cars just out of dealer service, that has been overfilled, because the manual might say capacity 4.8 litres for the sump, and the technician pours in the entire 5 litres from a can. This can also lead to fouled PCV valves on older engines, or worse, oil blow-by past the rings, resulting in excessive smoke and carbonisation of the combustion chambers. On diesels injector leakage can lead to diesel entering the sump via the sleeves, resulting in rising oil levels. Watch out. On my Isuzu repeated readings are required. I pour in the first 3 litres of oil and thereafter by 100ml increments until the full mark on the dipstick. Start up, let idle and you have to add about 150ml more, due to the only partially filled filter.

THE South African Building Industry has joined the Green Building club of the world.The National Building Regulations and standards Act is responsible for regulating the building industry. This Act and its regulation have, for the first time included a chapter that will ensure Sustainable buildings in South Africa for the future. The NRCS's building section has introduced into the National Building Regulations an additional chapter with the sole intention to deal with Sustainable Buildings. This additional chapter is called chapter X.The first regulation within this chapter is regulation XA and it introduces requirements for energy use in buildings. The first requirement of the regulation is set at a level, which has as its intention, to ensure better building practice. Kampareas sal afgebaken word en daar is voorskrifte vir wat daarin toegelaat word. Die formaat is hengelaars wat in spanne van twee deelneem, vier stokke per span word toegelaat met die nodige visvanggereedskap. Keurders gaan hul oog op hengelaars hou vir moontlike opname in die 2011 SA-span, en van die Mpumalangaspanne. Skole wat wil deelneem kan die organiseerder skakel. 72 uur langs viswaters lokgroot ‘visse’ en hengelaars

ie Lydenburg Rolbalklub het fondse nodig vir die aankoop en installering van ligte om die veld. Die klub se bestuur het besluit om Dmaatskappye te nader vir die fondsinsameling.

Vrydag 11 November om 18:00 moet elke maatskappy vier spelers op die veld hê. Die kostes per speler is R50. Twee maatskappye daag mekaar uit vir ’n spel van 10 rondtes. Maatskappye word gevra om spotpryse te skenk wat die president van die rolbalklub gedurende die spel sal uitgee. Ligte verversings sal voorsien word na die spel, kontantkroeg beskikbaar.
