RESIDENTS near the end of the Sterkspruit plot road just before the train line are at the end of their patience with the illegal dumping of dead animals on this section of the road. The picture featured here was taken on Monday morning by the Highlands Panorama News after a phone call from one of the residents. Apparently this practice has been going on for years, not only of dead animals, but also live, unwanted puppies and other fully grown dogs. Not only is the smell unbearable for people living in the area, but the carcasses pose a significant health risk as the animal decomposes. The puppies and larger dogs that are dumped alive follow the road after they are dumped and land up on plots along this road. There is no way to tell if these animals are vaccinated against Rabies or are carrying diseases like Parvo etc and as such pose a health and safety risk to residents. Some of the larger dogs are also starting to bother cattle in the area and farmers are concerned that calves may be attacked and killed as these dogs are hungry. It is illegal to dump a dead pet on the side of the road or in an open area. The correct procedure is people must take a deceased pet to the Municipal landfill site, state at the gate that they have an animal carcass for burial, they will be directed to where the diggers are working and a hole will be dug immediately and the animal buried for them. The Highlands Panorama News regularly receives complaints about dead pets being dumped in open areas. Another problem area seems to be near the river in Maasdorp Street. Illegal dumping is a punishable offence in terms of the bylaws that are implemented for this purpose. People caught dumping animals, dead or alive may face prosecution.

Tumbleweed Plant Nursery saw the letter on the front page of the Highlands Panorama News last week and immediately contacted the Office of the Thaba Chweu Mayor. They offered to donate trees to create an avenue

of trees to Kellysville. The Mayor and his staff visited the nursery on Friday to collect the trees. It will be planted within the next two weeks. The Mayor said he knows that will not solve all the problems of Kellysville

wreld kan tog nie s sleg wees nie. Geen moord, g e e n r o o f , g e e n v e r k r a g t i n g , g e e n geldnagmerries en omstrede wapenstransaksies nie. Hier op Erger-as-kopaf misgis jy die soutpot met die suikerpot en die ontbytpap proe snaaks. 'n Flertsie kos sit nog aan jou gesig vas as jy met mense praat. Dis mos nou nie hoe jy by die huis is nie, dit gebeur net. Op Kopaf vergeet jy van die klein genadetjies. Jy kyk net vas teen jou eie oogklappe se swaar en moeilik. En om die clich te gebruik, daar is soveel om oor dankbaar te wees. Miskien is dit 'n weerspreking. Soveel tot dankbaarheid is nie 'n clich nie, dis 'n waarheid. Ek kla my hart uit by 'n petroljoggie. Moet sente aftel vir brandstof, want die prys is te hoog. En hy s: Jy het baie. Dit ruk my. Ja, ek het baie. Dis net jammer mense, ek veral, besef dit nie. Daar staan in Belfast n ou vrou met 'n pienk windbreker en dik grys wolkouse. Sy soek 'n saamrygeleentheid. Daar het nog goed op haar wit kartonbord gestaan. Ek wou nie die bord lees nie. Dooie hondeSO, die vergiftiging van honde ten einde misdaad te bevorder, duur onverpoos voort.Die ganse dorp met al sy slim mense, die gifhandelaars, al die sekuriteitsfirmas en die polisiemag, kan skynbaar nie hierdie probleem hokslaan nie, ten spyte van enkelinge se pogings. Wat n patetiese spul is ons nie! Niemand wonder waarvoor slenter n man doelloos na donker in die strate rond nie (hy gooi dalk gif), of wat soek n motorfiets vieruur in die oggend

agterop n sleepwa of bakkie nie (dis waarskynlik gesteel).Daar word beweer dat hoe meer misdaad, hoe beter doen die sekerheidsfirmas en hoe beter is die kanse dat die polisie se hulpbronne verbeter kan word. Is dit onwaar? Daar baie wat met my praat wat sweer dat dit so is. Dit is soos die ou storie van sekere inslepers wat voorheen hier gewerk het, wat olie op straatkruisings uitgooi vir besigheid na die ongeluk wat sekerlik gaan gebeur. As iemand sterf - oeps - nie daaraan gedink nie, maar besigheid is besigheid!Wat se soort gemeenskap koester ons in ons midde? S ons maar net dat ons Christene is? Hoe leef ons met ons self saam? Of is ons geestelik so afgetakel en versteurd dat

ons geen gewete meer het nie? Moet wees, want nou laai mense selfs dooie honde en kan jy glo, lewendige klein hondjies in bokse langs die pad by die spoor anderkant die hospitaalplotte af! Op 50/50 sien ons hoe mense vir geld honde uitvoer om te veg.Wat n vieslike, korrupte, gedegenereerde spul! En dit is dieselfde mense wat heeldag vir jou vertel hoe vrot die regering is en hoe ons paaie lyk en dat die land uitmekaar val! En ons rassisme vier hoogty, veral na die derde dop. Wie sou kon glo dat blankes agter die motor- en motorfietsdiefstalle sit (en dus indirek agter die vergiftigings)? Ek het die bewyse op video. Weereens kyk ons na misdaad vanuit n rassistiese oogpunt.Ons is nie net Goddeloos nie, ons is God verlate. Dink aan die verskil en wonder dan hoekom. En dan reel ons biddae om die ou sakie gou weer reg te stel. Of so dink ons. Ons optrede (vir geld) is erger as die van n pak honger honde en dit stink erger as enige dooie hond. Sies man, watse soort mense is ons?

DIE Horskool Lydenburg se Matriek Prysuitdeling het weereens eer betoon aan leerders wat op talle gebiede presteer het tydens hul horskoolloopbaan. for the Garden Club. The day was hosted by Tumbleweed Nursery in Lydenburg. No expense or effort were spared to make this a blooming success. Thank you to all the organisers and everyone who contributed to this day. The Garden Club has members from Lydenburg, Ohrigstad, Dullstroom and surrounding areas. The ladies all had hats on, befitting the occasion which gave the event a fun theme.

Otees, Lydenburg, had a Lion Safety Matches competition in store, where the

lucky draw for this competition took place. The winner stood a chance of being the

WELCOME to the 21st century, where the virtual world seamlessly morphs into the real one. Or at least that's how it worked out for Lucas Ordoez, who has gone from being a student with a Playstation and a healthy interest in racing games, to a works driver for Nissan, with a podium finish at Le Mans to his name.The 27-year-old Spaniard was the winner of the inaugural Nissan GT Academy in 2008, an innovative and action-packed competition based around Playstation's Gran Turismo racing game. Gran Turismo features 'virtual' versions of performance icons such as the Nissan GT-R and 370Z. It's incredible simulation has opened up a whole new world for a new generation of race drivers.There was certainly doubt that a gaming console could provide a stepping stone to international motorsport success, however Lucas' success has proved it possible. While he was an avid gamer with a passion for Gran Turismo, he never dreamed he'd become a 'real' race driver. So when he went from his lounge to an LMP2 drive at Le Mans - finishing on the podium at his first attempt last year - it was a dream come true. Winning GT Academy has changed my life, says Lucas, lean and athletic in the modern race driver mould. It was by chance that I came across the competition in a motoring magazine and decided to give it a go. I wasn't a very serious gamer, but when I played my friends I usually won, so I had a bit of a feeling for it, I think. On-line success meant he graduated to the Spanish finals, and as one of the top three in that round went through to a European final at Silverstone in the UK a week of motorsport 'Boot Camp' which also paid attention to aspects such as fitness and media relations. This was also the first time in the process that competitors actually sat in a racing machine, as opposed to in front of a console, and kicked off with tuition and assessment in karts before graduating to the likes of the 370Z and GT-R. Little did he know that winning the final would result in him driving tracks like Nurburgring, his Madrid home track Jarama, and others in the real world. In 2009 and 2010 he learnt the ropes in the European GT4 championship at the wheel of

a 370Z, overcoming some initial antagonism from other drivers who felt he hadn't really earned the right to be there. He drove a GT-R Club Track Edition in the Nurburgring 24-hour in May, appropriately sharing the car with Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the Gran Turismo genre.The Nurburgring is something else. The car we drove was only slightly modified, but it coped brilliantly with 24-hours at the 'Ring. It was a really crazy race, very scary at times! grins Lucas. I did a lot of my preparation on Gran Turismo and when I got to the Nurburgring I knew exactly where I was on the course from the first lap, and I knew where to brake and what lines to take. Gran Turismo is much more than a game and guys who are quick on Gran Turismo

were usually quick on the track. Sure, you can't feel the car in a real way but when driving with a good steering wheel and pedals set-up it is like being in a proper car: you have to brake correctly, use the right lines, and apply all those little skills you develop and use in a race car. CHRIS Visser and Japie Badenhorst claimed Team Ford Racing's second successive victory in the penultimate round of the Absa Off Road championship. The result has kept the Ford crew's championship hopes alive with the title now to be decided at the final round of the season. Visser and Badenhorst demonstrated their competiveness early on in the weekend by taking the runner-up slot in Friday's prologue session one second behind the leaders. They quickly made their way to the front as Visser drove a faultless race to secure victory in the Ford dealer-sponsored Human Auto 400.We needed a win to keep our championship aspirations alive and that's just what we were able to do this weekend, explains Visser. The Ranger has been performing exceptionally well of late. This has allowed us to claw back some ground in the championship battle that will now be settled at the final round.Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable in the sister SP Ford Ranger ran a consistent race by taking seventh place after maintaining a solid pace through much of the event. A navigational error in Friday's prologue session meant they weren't able to compete at the front of the field but the pair used the event in order to gain further experience in what proved to be a fast-paced and rough event. This was a very tight race and the top finishing times were all incredibly close.We made a navigational error in the prologue which meant we started in a position that was not necessarily indicative of our pace. It also left us to contest with substantial dust, one of the disadvantages of a late start, explained Lance.Overall the team were pleased with the weekend's results with Team Manager Neil Woolridge singing the praises of his team: Chris and Japie had a fantastic race, perhaps their best ever. They were under intense pressure throughout the race at times sandwiched between their toughest competitors but never lost their composure. I'd like to thank the team for their faultless preparation ahead of this event, both cars were trouble-free throughout the weekend and we were able to put on a fantastic performance for the Ford fans.With one round remaining the team are now looking ahead to the next race and ensuring both Class SP Ford Rangers are once again thoroughly prepared and ready to battle for championship honours. ON Thursday the 18th October Pam Golding started painting at the Estralita school. Our aim is to cheer up their recreation rooms. The boys' recreation room was finished and they can now enjoy this beautiful space! The girls'

room has been painted on the 30th October after which we will deliver the games and books that we asked the community to donate.Estralita and Pam Golding would like to ask the community again to open their hearts to the children and do a clean-up of your children's toys, books and games that are no longer being used. You can drop it off at Pam Golding in Viljoen street at any time and we will gladly deliver it to Estralita.

Gaskunstenaars soos Lianie May, Snotkop, Armand Hofmeyr, Dawid Fourie en ander het opgetree.Die Curriebeker eindstryd is op n grootskerm TV uitgesaai. Die stalletjies wat daar was, veral die biertuin, is druk besoek. Die geleentheid was ongelukkig nie wyd in d i e p l aas l ike med ia adverteer nie, met hoofsaaklik plakkate wat in die dorp op was. B y w o n i n g w a s d e r h a l w e teleurstellend. Lydenburg is bekend daarvoor dat hy feeste slegs goed ondersteun as daar n baie groot verskeidenheid van items en besienswaardige dinge aangebied word en dit baie lank voor die tyd sterk gepromofeer word. Daar was bv. feitlik geen plaaslike besighede wat uitgestal het nie.N a o n s m e n i n g w a s d i e toegangsfooi redelik, in ag genome die gaskunstenaars wat opgetree het.Van Lelievlei se inwoners het opgetree as motorwagte, die hekke beman en party het diens gedoen by van die stalletjies.In medewerking met Frik Rousseau
