There is a great confusion in the world of religion. Notonly are there so many cults, each claiming its ownidentity as the supreme among all, but in one case –

that of Shankar, there is confusion about identity itself. Mythsand legends have contributed much to this confusion. Theportrayal of the deities by the artists and the adoration by thepoets also have a share in the blame, because not all artistsand poets are self-realised or enlightened persons and so,whatever they paint or print is not always true. Yet it catchesthe fancy of people and has a mass appeal, which forms abulk of the religious community who takes it as an article offaith and formulates their beliefs from these. In some cases, the portrayals do depict the philosophical concepts about thedeity in a faithful manner: but with the passage of time, theignorant masses have become oblivious of the symbolicmeanings and instead, take the depiction in its gross sense. For example, people think that Shankar rode on a bull; he hada trident and a damru in his hand and the Ganges fell offfrom his head and flowed from there into the world belowand so on. Similarly, they think that Shiva performed dances,of which the Tandav dance is done. It is therefore, essentialto clear the wrong notions in the interest of truth andknowledge.

Symbolic Representations of Shiva Imposed OnShankar

Let us take up the symbols which are generally associatedwith Shankar. It will be seen that, in reality, these symbols depictone or the other quality of Shiva, the Supreme Soul, whoseimage is the Shivlinga, but since the Shivlinga has no corporealfeatures, these could not be expressed through theinstrumentality of the simple oval form of Shivlinga andtherefore, Shiva was given a body merely with the object ofportraying His qualities, but later, He came to be identified withShankar, who had a subtle body. Let us discuss them in somemore detail.

It is a matter of great joy towish all our readers many, many Happy Greetings for

the 79th Trimurti Shiv Jayanti(Maha Shivaratri)! PrajapitaBrahma Kumaris IshwariyaVishwa Vidyalaya came intobeing after the advent ofSupreme Soul, SupremeFather God Shiva, as visualizedand realised by the Founderinstrument, Dada Lekhraj. DadaLekhraj was given the alokik(spiritual) name of PrajapitaBrahma as per the role he wasassigned to become the maininstrument of self-transformationand world-transformation.

Devotees of God Shiva havebeen celebrating Maha Shivratriyear after year for centuries. This has become an annual ritualon the path of Bhakti(Devotion). None of theBhaktas (Devotees) ever, everthought about the origin of MahaShivratri celebrations. It wouldbe wise to reflect on the thoughtthat God Shiva must haveincarnated on earth to grant themost cherished desire of ShivBhaktas, in particular, and therest of the human race ingeneral of salvation and

liberation. Even the animalkingdom and other forms of life, including the five elements, musthave been purified as well. Thiscould happen only when humansouls rejuvenate and re-enlightenthemselves to become worship-worthy humans, pure and divineas the deities of Golden Age.That Golden Age or Paradise orBahisht is known as the Age ofTruth or Sattava when thehuman souls are in their highestform of Purity, Truth andDivinity. For such divine beings, nature or the elements too needto be satvik (pure) unlike thepresent day Kaliyugi impure, degenerated, weak and furiouselements. This greattransformation gets initiated byGod Shiva, the presiding Satguru, through enlightenment andpurification of the entireuniverse.

As we prepare ourselves tohonour God Shiva on MahaShivratri which falls on 17February 2015, by offeringBelpatra and other items ofworship, let us aim to elevate ourunderstanding to higherconsciousness to becomeknowledgeful and blessed gyani

souls. This would help keep usin Satsang constantly, asexplained directly by SupremeFather, God Shiva. Learning theexact meaning of participation inReal Satsang, and practicing thesame, would definitely help usin becoming worthy of living theglorious life in Satyug. Thecompany of the Truthful Beinghappens to be available only onthe path of Gyan(Enlightenment). God is ever-Truth, and to connect orremember Him means toparticipate or celebrate inSatsang. Let this year’s MahaShivratri mark a new beginningin our lives by teaching us to bein divine company of the ever-Divine Being, God Shiva, through elevated consciousnessor remembrance.

How fortunate we are to listento the most beautiful, deepmeaning of Satsang, asdescribed by Supreme FatherGod Shiva through the mediumof Prajapita Brahma, accordingto His promise of reincarnatingKalpa after Kalpa (every 5000years) at the Confluence Age:

“You children are sitting inthe company of the Truth. Only

at the confluence of everycycle, do you children sit inthis gathering of the Truth. The world does not know whatthe gathering of the Truth is.The term “satsang” (companyof the Truth) has continuedfrom time immemorial. Peopleon the path of devotion say:We go to such-and-suchsatsang. In fact, no one goesto a real satsang on the pathof devotion. Satsangs canonly take place on the path ofknowledge.

“You souls are sitting in thecompany of the true Father.Nowhere else do souls sit inthe company of the SupremeFather, the Supreme Soul.None of them even knows theFather. Although they say thatthey go to a satsang, theyremain body-conscious. Youdo not become body-conscious. You understandthat you are souls and that youare now sitting in the companyof Baba who is the Truth. Theterm “company of the Truth”only exists now. The Fathersits here and explains theaccurate meaning of “thecompany of the Truth”. Yousouls are now sitting with theSupreme Father, the SupremeSoul, who is the true Father, the true Teacher and the trueGuru. This means that you aresitting in the company of theTruth. Then, no matterwhether you sit here or at

home, you consider yourselfto be a soul and youremember the Father.

“We souls are rememberingour true Father, that is, we arein the company of the Truth. You are given many methodsto remember the Father. Onlyby having remembrance, canyour sins be absolved. Youchildren also know that youbecome 16 celestial degreescomplete, and that as you thencome down the ladder, yourdegrees diminish. Devotion isat first unadulterated. Then,as you come down the ladder, because devotion becomesadulterated, you becometamopradhan. Therefore, thecompany of the Truth isdefinitely needed. Otherwise, how could you become pure?

“Remembrance is alsocalled company. This is thecompany of the Truth. Whilstyou have the physical bodies, you souls have to rememberMe. This is the company of theTruth. It is said that someonehas been coloured by thecompany of an importantperson and that is why he hasbecome body-conscious. Younow have the company of thetrue Father, and, through this, you will become satopradhanfrom tamopradhan. TheFather says: I only come once. Now, because you souls havethe company of the SupremeSoul, you are able to go across

for 21 births. Later, you keepthe company of physicalbodies. This too is predestinedin the Drama. The Fathersays: When you children haveMy company, you becomesatopradhan. This is alsocalled becoming golden aged.

“Sages and holy men thinkthat souls are immune to theeffect of action. They thinkthat everyone is the SupremeSoul. This would mean thatthere is alloy in the SupremeSoul. There can be no alloymixed in the Supreme Soul. The Father asks: Is therereally alloy mixed in Me? No;I always reside in the SupremeAbode because I do not enterthe cycle of birth and death. You children know this.Amongst you too, some remainin My company a lot andothers less. Some of you makevery good effort to remain inyoga. The more you soulsremain in the Father’scompany, the more you willbenefit; your sins will beabsolved.

“The Father says: O’ souls, remember Me, your Father.Stay in My company. I have totake the support of this body.Otherwise, how would theSupreme Soul speak to yousouls? How would you soulshear Him? You souls have tostay in the company of theTruth. Souls are wonderful andthe Supreme Soul is wonderful.

Page 5: 02. World Renewal-Feb15

This world is also wonderful. Itis a wonder how this worldcycle continues to turn.

“There is now the force ofscience. In the Golden Age,there will be so much powerof science. The new world iscreated very quickly. There, the power of purity is the mainone. Souls are now weak. There, they are powerful. SriLakshmi and Sri Narayan arepowerful. Ravan snatchedyour power away. You are nowconquering Ravan andbecoming very powerful. Themore you souls remain in thecompany of the Truth, that is,the more you souls rememberthe Father, the more powerfulyou become. You receivepower through this study. Youreceive power and you thenrule the whole world. Only atthis confluence do you soulshave yoga with the Truth. TheFather says: By remaining inMy company, you soulsbecome very powerful. TheFather is the World AlmightyAuthority. You receive strengthfrom Him. You receive all theknowledge of the Vedas andscriptures and of thebeginning, the middle and theend of the world cycle.

“The Father doesn’t giveyou any other difficulty.Simply remember Him; that’sall! Now that the cycle of 84births is over, you have toreturn home. It is not a big

thing to understand this. There is no need to go into

too much detail. Byunderstanding the Seed, youcan understand how the wholetree emerges from it. It is inyour intellects in a nutshell. These matters are unique.

“You become the masters ofthe world through the powerof yoga. This is the effort youhave to make. The yoga ofBharat is famous. Throughyoga, your lifespan becomesvery long. You receive somuch benefit by remaining inthe company of the Truth. Yourlifespan becomes long andyour bodies become free fromdisease. Only you childrenhave all of these thingsinstilled in the intellect.

“This is the pilgrimage ofremembrance. You should useyour intellects to churn thesethings. In those satsangs, people just gather togethersomewhere; there is noquestion of that here. It isn’tonly when you are sitting inone place that there can be thecompany of the Truth. No; youremember Him as you walk, move and sit, that is, you arein the company of the Truth, but only if you are inremembrance of Him. If youare not in remembrance, itmeans you are body-conscious. The body is false. The body is not true. The bodyis non-living; it is made of the

five elements. When it has nosoul within it, it doesn’t move.It is the soul that claims all thefortune.

“You are now sitting on thepyre of knowledge andbecoming deities. Everyone inthe whole world has beenburnt by sitting on the pyre oflust. Souls have becometamopradhan and ugly. TheFather comes to change youchildren from ugly to beautiful. Therefore, the Father says:Children, renounce body-consciousness and consideryourselves to be souls.

“The company of the Truthand the company of falsehoodare mentioned when both existat the same time. The trueFather explains everythingwhen He comes. Until the trueFather comes, no one is ableto understand anything. TheFather now says to youchildren: O souls, keep Mycompany. Go beyond thecompany of the physicalbodies.”

Let us celebrate MahaShivratri not just on the night of16 February 2015, but celebratealways by remaining in spiritualreunion with the SupremeBeing, Parampita ParmatmaShiva. Once again, we wisheveryone multi-million foldcongratulations for the mostauspicious festival of GodShiva’s reincarnation!!!

We are children of oneGod, i.e., Shiv Baba.Day by day there is

a feeling that no subtlediscrimination should remain inus. To the extent discriminationgoes inside, we need toquestion: I am happy with Shiv

Baba; He is happy with me,but am I happy with everyone?

At Amrit vela (Nectar Time)there is an attraction, a pull tosit here in front of Shiv Baba– and this feeling then staysthroughout the day. TheEnglish word is ‘feeling’, inHindi we say ‘bhavna’. Withbhavna there is attainment forthe self.

I always think, first there is

Baba and second there isservice. We remember Babaand do service. We are allinstruments to do Godlyservice. If one doesn’t do this, what does one do? While beingin service, we should not beconcerned about what othersare doing. Dada Vishwa Ratanhad such feeling that he hadreceived so much attainment.Everyone has his or her ownpart. Let there not be anymistakes in service. Pay fullattention, not just a littleattention to being ‘instrumentalfor service’.

Carelessness and lethargycome into service even with thesubtle thought, “Well, there areothers to do this, why do Ihave to do this”.

There is deep study, contemplation, i.e. repeatedchurning. If in my mind, knowledge has really set in, itshows in my practical life. Thishas been very useful for me; Iam free from wasteful thinking. To stay in thoughts of goodwishes, and to be a well wisher

for others is fortune. Let eachone check that there is no wastethought for anyone. This is thetrue meaning of havingcompassion and mercy for theself. There is God’s kindness andmercy, but that comes when Ikeep attention on myself withoutcarelessness. Carelessness isthe biggest defect and it bringsa great loss.

What is the differencebetween carelessness and

lethargy?Lethargy makes one careless.

One may get a good chance, yetlethargy doesn’t allow us toutilize our full potential.Lethargy brings such thoughts ofweakness that there is nospiritual income. There aresome who don’t do things as aduty, but as a natural nature. But, Lethargy is an enemy; itmakes you careless. It willmake you give some reason orother to discontinue your spiritualeffort or be complacent about it.As long as we are in servicethere is income. It is wonderful;there is a pull towards Baba.

With dedication we say thatthe body, mind and wealth arenot ‘mine’. If I say that they arenot mine, I need to check how Iam using them.

I love the Godly Knowledgethat Shiv Baba gave us in thebeginning about the soul: mind, intellect and sanskars. I watched

the film, “Who am I?” Theyhave made a very clear film. Itis very useful. It is worthwatching for everyone. I don’twatch TV; I have neverwatched it. So we don’t haveone in London. But the other daythey told me so I agreed, so thatI could see everyone and theycan see me.Service, Remembrance and

RelationshipThere is spirituality in

relationships. In service, there isincome. Remembrance is forthe self. As much as one staysin remembrance, nothing elsewill come to him.

Let us give this one gift toBaba. Whatever happened anhour ago, one should forget it.One shouldn’t dwell on the pastor remember it. This is income.Let us put full stop with theknowledge of the drama. Whatis predestined will happen.

Keep the Aim to PleaseGod’s Heart

Why is it important toremember the cycle and to spinthe cycle? Because this helps usto remember that we are in theConfluence Age. What is mypart now? What do I have to donow? I am a soul of the original, eternal deity religion. Truth is myreligion. My karma has to bebased on truth. It is the karmawhich reveals the soul. We haveto go to Satyuga – the land of

truth. One must keep Lakshmiand Narayan in front of oneself. One must remember Shiv Bababut keep the aim of becomingLaxmi/Narayan in one’spractical life. Looking at theirpicture, my actions will beelevated.

Within remembrance there islove and in remembrance thesoul receives Baba’s sakash. One is Baba’s love. Secondly,Baba can pull the soul in yoga. When Baba pulls the soul above, then the mistakes of the past canbe removed. They are firstforgiven by Baba and then theyare burnt away. This onlyhappens when I haverealization. I have to payattention to perform suchactions that God is happy withme. Keep this aim. Don’t keepthe aim to please your ownheart, rather keep the aim toplease God’s heart. This timewill not come again. We have tobe so truthful that the falsehoodof the world is destroyed.

The One who is the Father ofthe World is also my personalBaba. Baba is coming so howshould my stage be? We needcompassion. One should havecompassion but not competition. If one has even a little ego, onewill find a variety of obstacles. One shouldn’t stop making effortbecause of obstacles. Moreover, one shouldn’t be afraid of

obstacles. There will be peoplewho create obstacles. My taskis to be a destroyer of obstacles. In order to become this, one willneed to overcome carelessness. One will need to maintain his/her zeal and enthusiasm. Wehave received such sustenanceof God Shiva in the sakar(through the corporealmedium of Brahma) andavyakt (sustenance of GodShiva and Complete AngelicBrahma, thus calledBapDada through DadiGulzar) forms that it is easyfor us to have yoga of theintellect with Baba. We receivestrength from that yoga. Theintellect keeps the mind totallyfree from attachment andinfluence; there is only OneFather.

If one has the basicknowledge of Rajyoga as taughtby Brahmakumaris; one musthave the pictures of the tree, thecycle and the three worlds. Wehave to keep the images yetremember the Imageless One.He is so tiny! We mustremember Him and whoeverlooks at us will feel that lightand might. Everything willthen become right. Whenpeople look at us, they should notsee our body. It is our job tomake our stage such… Our faceshould reveal love… Therefore, one must pay attention to one’s

Page 8: 02. World Renewal-Feb15

The World Renewal, February 2015 9

character. There is no time now to correctothers. One should have faith that they willdo good. One should ask oneself: Whatdo I have to do now? What changes doI need to make in myself? I need to havesuch purity in my thoughts that even atrace of impurity cannot arise. The soulthen receives a lot of help. First puritycreates cleanliness within and then the soulbecomes truthful. Untruthfulness cannotremain within. The soul becomes pure gold.It also needs to be checked right now: AmI truthful? If there is truth there will behumility – no ego. The seed of vice is ego.Anger arises because of greed andattachment. Greed and attachment canalso be subtle. Some say they have to be alittle extra nice to someone in order to getthe work done. What is this? If there istruth there is humility and when there ishumility there is maturity. Such souls willnot need to speak much. They will speakless but there will be a deep meaning intheir words. Their words will be sweet.

When we look at the picture of DadiPrakashmani, we find that she stayed inself respect and gave respect. This washer nature.

Thus, one must always consider oneselfas an instrument; I am a soul, a child ofBaba. Also, one must never forget the daysof his or her childhood. One should alwayskeep the thought – “I have been victoriousevery kalpa. Everything has already beendone…”

Now we all need to simply make effortto make our life a sample for others. This is the effort we should be makingnow. Let’s finish our own obstacles. Ourstage should now be free from obstacles.

EMOTIONAL JOY ANDSORROW

We commonly become emotional, either in times ofsorrow e.g. at being separated from a loved one, atexperiencing failure in an external event, on hearing anegative news, etc. or in times of joy e.g. when ourchild or spouse or even pet performs a warm act, whilewatching a movie, etc. While we have always believedthat it is absolutely normal or natural to becomeemotional and some of us even believe that it is good tolet go of our emotions and crying once in a while makesus lighter and stronger; on a spiritual level, becomingemotional comes under the realm of dependencies anddependencies always weaken us. This is because whenwe become emotional, instead of influencing our selfon our own, we allow something or someone outsideour self to influence us. We bring that something orsomeone or some event outside our self, inside, in frontof the eye of our mind, attach our self to it, and lose ourself in it i.e., we let the image hijack our internal worldin a way, as we become subservient to it. As a resultour thoughts, feelings, emotions, words, actions areinfluenced in a big way by the image. This is a spiritualdefinition of becoming emotional. Passing on the remotecontrol of my internal world to the outer world in thisway is a sign of a not so strong internal self.

So what does one do instead? Instead of creatingimages of external events and people inside our mindsand being influenced by them, we still watch thesescenes, but instead of losing our self in them and takingfrom them, we contribute to them by giving them ourinternal energy, but at the same time make sure thatwhile doing that, we are detached from them and notover-involved emotionally. Internal energy is given in theform of appreciation and love if it’s a positive scene andpower, compassion and co-operation if it’s a negativescene, so as to help the scene to be corrected orresurrected. This is influencing instead of beinginfluenced. This is a more empowering experience. Inthis way, we regain the control over our inner world andrise above such emotional dependencies.

The world, its expansionand its end, is like that ofa physical tree. This is

why it is compared with a tree. Now the tree of humanity hasreached a totally decayed stage. Its end has now come. Allreligions believe that it is timefor destruction. The time ofsettlement has come.

Annihilation Will NotHappen

Many people think that this isannihilation. Annihilation doesn’tmean everything will bedestroyed all at once. It isn’t likethat. This world will not becompletely destroyed. Thehuman world is eternal. Theworld will stay, but there will bea great transformation. Oneshould keep it in his/her mindthat what is happening nowmust happen. The Supreme SoulGod Father sits and explains allthese aspects.

Why Is God Called‘Liberator’?

The Father says: ‘I come andestablish true religion.’ Althoughthe residents of Bharat sing ofthese things, they don’tunderstand which true religionthe Father is establishing. It has

THE TREE OF HUMANITY

also been mentioned in the Gitathat God comes and destroysirreligiousness, and establishestrue or righteous religion. However, how can one saywhich true religion did Heestablish? Nobody knows. Weknow, however, that Godestablished the deity religion. When He established the deityreligion, the world was heaven. When other religions came, itwasn’t the time for heaven.

The new world will come onlywhen the old world is destroyed. This is why God is called theLiberator, and the Guide. Noother religious fathers are calledliberator, because they cannottake anyone back home. Whenthey come, the population

increases, but when the Fathercomes, He takes the souls backhome. It is now the time forchange. So we shouldunderstand the world history, andalso our own history. It is the oneFather who explains ourelevated religion and elevatedattainment, and what the signsor qualifications for it are.

No Human Can Do theTask of God

To establish one religion andone kingdom over the world isnot the task of any human being. This is the task only of God. So,He is doing His job now. Itshould be in our mind that thesouls are imperishable; it is theFather who takes them backhome.

To make human-beingshighest of the high is God’s task.God will make human beingsgreat and elevated. It isn’t thatHe gives them four or eightarms, He only make their stageelevated. This is why the Fathersays: ‘I make human-beingshighest of the high.’ The strengthof divinity has gone from us. TheFather comes and puts thatstrength in us, with which our lifebecomes elevated.

God Shiva is making us intosuch human-beings as SriLakshmi and Sri Narayan. Oneneeds to keep his aim firm thatGod is transforming us into thehighest human beings. Such

Questions such as whatis evil, why does itexist, can we ever

triumph over it… haveperplexed many. Not having asatisfactory answer has resultedin many becoming atheists whobelieve that if there is evil, thenthere is no God. Their simplelogic is: “Here is a man with along beard which is the proof thatthere is no barber in this place!”Interestingly, the key to triumphover evil lies in knowing whatevil really is.

When something isimmaterial, people often resortto material tools to symbolize it.When one offers a flower to hisfriend, the recipient understandsthat the one who presents haslove towards him; yet he knowsthat flower is not love. Similarly, the ancient people used vividpicturization of virtues as godsand goddesses, and vices asmonsters (or devil and demons)through their mythical stories.

The whole purpose was tohighlight the fact that victoryover evil is possible. EVIL(something that reads LIVEwhen spelled reverse) means

going in opposite direction ortaking diversion, thus wastingone’s life! If you are in harmonywith yourself, fellow-humans,nature and God, then you feellight, at ease, and your lifebecomes a celebration. On thecontrary, if you are not inharmony with any or all of them, you feel burdened, drained, atdis-ease, hence you can say youare wasting your life – somethingwhich EVIL really means in theWest (compare Bible bookMathew 7:17 where the word“EVIL” is used to refer towastefulness) and in the East(where the word for evil or viceis vikar which means deviation).

Thus evil is like a knot on arope. Knot was not part of therope when it was originallymanufactured, but is an artificial, twisted condition temporarilybrought on the rope by its user.So is the case of evil. When oneabandons the truth about his trueidentity (that he is a spirit beingin this costume called body) andhypnotises/twists himself intobelieving the untruth that he isonly this body, and feels moreimportant than others and begins

to think in terms of I, My andMine,….. things becomecomplicated; evil appears like aknot on a rope. (Bible bookProverb 21:4; Bhagavat Gita16:8-21; 18:16). When one feelsmore important than others, hisdesires become intense. Themore the self-importance, themore monstrous form the eviltakes.

This is where the knowledgeof one’s true identity becomessignificant. We know that whenthe soul leaves its seat, the bodyturns into a horribly foul-smellingtrash, and hence the body is aperishable costume of the soulthrough which it performs itsroles on earth. The soul is thedriver, the body is the car. Thisrealization of soul, being aconscient point of energy, helpsto cultivate the inherent worthof the soul. When one acceptstruth about himself, he feels atease with others, pure motivecomes in dealing with others, which results in joy, love andpeace – evil disappears.

Thus, truth about what makesus evil makes victory over iteasier, which naturally has beenthe theme of all myths. Thus wehave in India myths about godsdefeating demons, andmythological beings with divinepowers, such as Saraswati,Lakshmi, Ganesh…. who are allsymbols of higher states ofconsciousness that inspire us to

tap into the collective imaginationand our collective longing toaccomplish the extraordinary, lead a better life and activate thelatent powers within ourawareness.

One such great help is foundin the most popular teachingfound in almost all cultures – theteaching of TRINITY thatsymbolizes three roles of GODas Generator, Operator andDestroyer [the first letters ofwhich, some say, make the wordGOD]. Whatever happens in thephysical world – including in ourbodies – could be summarizedin three words: generation, growth and decay which arerepeated eternally. These threethings happen in an orderly wayas though they are being headedby three divine beings who fulfillthe above three roles asrepresentatives of the GodAlmighty!

We, the individual souls, areactually the exactrepresentation of the SupremeFather; thus our souls tooshould have those three majorroles:

1) Soul GENERATESthoughts (thus we have thefaculty called mind).) Soul distinguishes what isbeneficial and harmful, andMAINTAINS what isbeneficial to us (hence wehave the faculty called

intellect).3) Soul retains the imprintsof all actions performedmentally and physically (thuswe have the faculty calledsanskar) which can, in theprocess, DESTROY ortransform wastefultendencies into beneficialtendencies, if it chooses to doso!

Once convinced of the abovethree roles of soul, there is nolimit to one’s enjoyment.Because thought is the father ofall actions, and one can simplychange the object of his vicesand destroy/transform them intovirtues. See what happens whenyou change the object of yourromance (from a human being)to Supreme Being – you beginto enjoy ever-increasing joy, asuper-sensuous joy, whichcomes from remembering Himalone (as opposed to the gradualdistaste and disappointment thatcome from loving human body, the beauty of which is bound todisappear after some years, accompanied by manyailments). One who has tastedthe superlative joy that comesfrom remembrance of God, thenother forms of superficialexcitement become tooinsignificant in comparison, andhence one will have no reasonto fall back to worldly attraction.Instead, he will always swing in

joy, singing like Mira: “I am madin love” of God!

This is true of all other vicesor evils. Your anger becomes anasset when you decide tobecome angry ONLY at yourown flaws and failures, not ofothers. Finally, your pridebecomes holy when you think:“I belong to God and He belongsto me, and I have a goodrelationship with God Almighty, lovingly called Shiv Baba!”

What a wonder! A smallchange in attitude destroys (ortransforms) all your vices intovirtues. This has its parallel inthe physical world too. Chemistsare used to seeing such wonders. Each element in the PeriodicTable has a number assigned toit, and each element has acertain number of atoms andelectrons in it. The reason whysilver, charcoal, gold anddiamond appear different issimply because of the differencein the number of protons andelectrons in the constitutingatoms. If numbers of atoms orelectrons are different incharcoal (an amorphous form ofthe Carbon element), then itbecomes Diamond (a crystallineshining form of the sameCarbon element).

Similarly, in body-consciousness, you are like acharcoal. Switched over to soul-

We celebrate thefestival of Shivratrior Shiv Jayanti

every year around the month ofFebruary with a lot of zeal andenthusiasm. The devotees ofGod Shiva go to the temples, puton fast, practice celibacy, remain awake throughout thenight as a mark of devotion andoffer prayers to Him for the well-being of their near and dear ones.

Shivratri, unlike otherfestivals, has its uniquespeciality. While devoteesperform worship of other deities, there is however somethingexceptional about the festival ofGod Shiva, who performs divineacts of Generation of NewWorld through the medium ofBrahma, Operation orsustenance of that Golden AgeWorld through Vishnu andDestruction of the present oldvicious world, through Shankar,in the present Confluence Age.

The term Shivratri which is aHindi word signifies the night ofignorance of all human souls ofthe true knowledge of Soul, God,the beginning, middle and end ofthe World Cycle, Karma

Philosophy etc. This is the timewhen all human souls of theworld are under the influence ofvices, viz. Sex-Lust, Anger,Greed, Attachment, Ego,Jealousy, Carelessness,Laziness, and Enmity etc. Asthey are all in darkness of trueknowledge, they also defameGod by calling Him omnipresentand, thus, believe Him to be inall the creatures of the worldsuch as animals, insects, andbirds and even in the fiveelements such as trees, plants, sun, moon, fire etc. Thus, this isthe time when God Shivareincarnates in the pious land ofBharat when there prevail –irreligiousness, lawlessness, crimes, corruption, violence, degradation of values, whenmany so called Gurus andSaints claim to be gods. Thus,at such a time of doomsday,God Shiva, who is the subtlestpoint of light and is immune tothe cycle of birth and death andOcean of all virtues and powers, descends from His Supremeabode to fulfil His promisementioned in Shrimad BhagwadGita to bestow His children – the

God Fatherly birthright ofLiberation and Fruition.

The Form of God Shivaand His Worship

As per Godly Knowledgebeing taught by God Shivathrough the medium of PrajapitaBrahma Baba, we were pure, prosperous and happy inSatyuga and Treta Yuga, known as Golden Age and SilverAge. These two epochs are alsoknown as Paradise or Swarg orJannat or Bahisht. Theinheritance of Paradise wasgiven by God Shiva at theConfluence of the fag-end ofKaliyuga and beginning ofSatyuga. However, fromDwapar Yuga, we startedperforming devotion of GodShiva, followed by worship ofdeities (forgetting that weourselves were deities), Gurus,Saints and even five elements–earth, water, fire, air and sky.

We sing His praises and callHim the Ocean of Knowledge,Ocean of Purity, Ocean of Loveetc. However, it must beunderstood that these praises arenot just praises but the realqualities of God Shiva which Heis performing presently at the

Confluence Age to liberate ushuman souls from vices and giveus our God Fatherly Birthrightof Heaven for 21 births. He iscalled Ocean of Knowledgebecause in order to liberate usfrom the shackles of Maya, Hegives us Godly Knowledge, which is His love to us, in thepraise of which the devoteessing, “You are the Ocean ofLove; we are thirsty of one dropof it.”

There are praises and storiesfor many deities on how theywere born, how they grew upand how they lived. But thesame can’t be found for GodShiva. God Shiva is a point oflight that is why we use the‘lingam’ to worship Him whichis almost formless. Even the‘lingam’ has only been made sothat we may have an actualphysical medium that we canworship and relate to. It is easierfor human beings to acceptsomething tangible thansomething non-existent andindescribable.

Why do we refer to Shiva asthe Supreme Soul or‘Paramatma’? This is becauseHe is the Father of all the humansouls. Only souls can live in theSoul World and God Shiva is theone who can give powers tothese souls.

The descent of God Shiva, which is the most important

event in the entire world cycleof 5000 years in this world, isgloriously celebrated asShivratri. It is seen as the mostauspicious festival but thedevotees are unaware of thesignificance as how Shivratri iscommemorative of God’sdescent on earth to leadhumanity from darkness ofignorance to light of trueknowledge. Today no one hasanswers to questions such aswho they are, where they arefrom, why the earth is filled withhappiness and sorrow, why theyare here on earth, what they aredoing and what they aresupposed to do to attainLiberation and Salvation.Everyone’s intellect is lockedaway from the truth. It is onlyGod the World Benefactor whounlocks eternal divine truths andgrants all souls liberation from

sufferings.God Shiva is the one who is

good to everyone and is theAlmighty, the Saviour, theMost Benevolent and WorldBenefactor. In the presentConfluence Age, He isteaching us Rajyoga andcreating the World of Peace,Prosperity and Happiness forthose, who recognize Him,become His children andfollow His Godly advice, i.e.Shrimat. In fact, for suchchildren who becomeembodiment of Knowledge,Purity, Peace, Joy, Love, Bliss,Power, this most auspiciousfestival is the real Diwali, astheir lamp of soul is ignited byGod Shiva. Moreover, thisfestival paves the way for theGolden Age, which is thememorial of festival of lights– Diwali.

consciousness, you become like a diamond, so strong that youwill smash the hammer (also called Maya) that hits you! Moreover, you begin to dance over all vices – something that issymbolized by Krishna’s dancing over the hood of snake!

In modern days, Brahma Baba triumphed over all forms ofevil, with ease. Those who were personally trained by himbecame the mighty pillars of the purity, called Brahma Kumarsand Brahman Kumaris. You too can learn from them how easilyyou can triumph over evil and make your life a celebration.Contact your nearest Rajyoga Study centre and ask for a seven-day course, conducted free of cost, for an hour a day.

Maha Shivratri iscelebrated all overIndia during the

month of February or Marchevery year. It is believed thatGod Shiva took birth duringnight. It is strange that eventhough God Shiva took birth, nobody knows about his parents, his family and so on. In case ofShri Krishna or Shri Ram orothers, their parents are knownto the world and there is ahistory of their familybackground. The verysignificant spiritual event ofShivratri has been distorted overthe years and now peoplecelebrate this important festivalas an annual ritual sans itsoriginal significance andpurpose. To truly celebrateShivratri, it is vital to know as towho Shiva is, His role and whatthe word ‘Ratri’ has to do withShiva.

Shiva and ShankarWhen we speak of God Shiva,

there are two entities coming upbefore us. One is the meditativefigure of Shankar and the otheris the oval shaped form of stone. We can find the idol of Shankarin meditative posture in front of

Shiva Linga in many Shivatemples. The subtle deityShankar has come to be calledShiva because God Shiva cannotbe seen with the gross eyes. Itis seen that in all the 12jyotirlinga temples, we findonly the self effulgent light formof stone which is calledjyotirlinga. In such temples, thedeity Shankar is not seen sittingbefore the jyotirlinga. Throughthe study of the ancient symbolsof worship among variousnations and religions, it can betraced that the worship of Shivalinga holds a distinct position. Ithas been a symbol of all majorreligions of the world, may beunder different names.

The Meaning of ‘Linga’As time passed, many great

religious persons preached whatthey believed and practised. Many people started offering

their obeisance to the great menin place of God. In fact, God,

being Incorporeal light, remainedinvisible to devotees, who useddifferent languages, andmisguided – personal opinions.Instead of clearly understandingthe meaning of ‘Linga’,misinterpretations took place.Linga means ‘mark’, ‘sign’,‘symbol’ or ‘gender’ or‘emblem’. For example, in oneof the famous systems of IndianPhilosophy known as NiyayDarshan (Indian system oflogic), it is said that ‘desires’,‘efforts’, and cognition ofknowledge are the ‘ling’ of thesoul. In another Indianphilosophy Vanished, it is saidthat ‘afterwards’, ‘earlier’,simultaneously’, ‘lately’ and‘quickly’ are lingams of time. Itis unfortunate that a literaryexercise has been made toassociate the worship ofShivlinga with certain parts ofbody of deity Shankar or phallicworship. A serious misinter-pretation is made and Shankaris made Shiva. Again we mustknow that the ‘Sanskrit word‘Linga’ is Lin and gam. Li orlin is equivalent of Laya i.e.destruction whereas ‘ga’ or‘gam’ means ‘agaman’ meansrecreation or renaissance. HereShivlinga means one who doesgood. It denotes the gender. Wenormally say ‘pullinga meansmasculine, strilinga (feminine)and Nanpunsiklinga (neutergender).

Light Form Of God IsRecognised By Almost AllReligions Of The World Not only the people belonging

to Sanatan Dharma recognizedthe light form of God, but a vastmajority of people professingdifferent faiths believe that Godis light. In Mecca, there is astone symbol named Sang-E-Aswad to which all Muslimpilgrims pay homage by kissingit from a distance. Christiansand Jews believe as mentionedin Bible that God had revealedHimself to Moses in the form ofa lamp flame. Today an earthenlamp is lit in all temples and acandle lit in all churches. Peoplewho practise Patanjali Yoga fixthe mind on a candle flame. Godis a subtle and brilliant dot. Heis not omnipresent butomniscient. Even in SrimadBhagavad-Gita, it is stated‘jyotishamapi jyotisthamasahaparam uchate’ ‘God is light ofall lights and is Supreme of all’.God is Ocean of knowledge,Ocean of peace, Ocean of blissand Ocean of love. He is theRedeemer, Lord of 3 worlds, and the Destroyer of sins.

Meaning of GodGod means One who is self

existent and is eternal and of thenature of light. The Arabic word‘Allah is derived from Al andLah meaning the Sacred One orthe One who is of the nature of

Hidden Light (Divine Light). We find the word Elohim inBible and the Arabic word‘Allah’ means the same thing.Another word mentioned inBible ‘Jehovah’ which originallywas Jahweh literally means ‘theliving truth’ or ‘theconsciousness of life. Jehovaoriginal was Shiva, the light seenby Moses in the bushes. JesusChrist also said ‘God is Light, Iam not God; I am son of God’.God is also called ‘Khuda’means the One who comes onHis own. It is similar to the word‘Swayambhu’ meaning the Onewho takes birth on His own.

God Descended AndCurrently We Are In Shiva

Ratri TimeGod descends in the body of

an ordinary old man who isendowed with divine vision. Heis given a spiritual namePrajapita Brahma. God comesdown to the level of humanbeings at the end of Iron Ageand beginning of Golden Age tocommunicate with humanbeings in a natural way. Hereveals His own identity and Hisabode of Paramdham or SoulWorld, His attributes, His divineacts through the subtle deitiesBrahma, Vishnu and Shankar, the identity of the souls and alsothe creation. This period is called‘ratri’ meaning darkness ofignorance. Then God initiates

human souls to practise‘Upavasa’ which means the actof staying near to Him – in otherwords called love-fullremembrance of God.

God Shiva’s UniqueRevelations

In the history of the worldnobody, may he be a Rishi,Muni, a prophet, a great soul, has ever asked us toremember them, except tellingus that we should rememberGod. But, here Godauthoritatively asks us toremember Him and Him alonein soul-consciousness andremember Him in Paramdhamwhich is His abode. He alsomakes another surprisingannouncement that He hascome to take the souls backhome as the present act ofdrama is going to conclude anda new world order of peace andplenty will be created. We canconnect to Him mentally throughlove-full remembrance in soul-consciousness. Thus oneexperiences super-sensuousjoy. This is God’s presence inaction. One experiences Hisdivine companionship. This is,in fact, a combination of thegreatest worship, the highestspiritual effort, the holiestspiritual peregrination, theunique vrata, tapa, upavasa andjagran.

B.K. Ranjit Fuliya: BrotherYogeshwar Kumar, please

tell us about your childhood, education, spiritual and

religious beliefs etc.B.K. Yogeshwar Kumar: Ibelong to a religious family ofU.P. with strong sanskars ofbhakti or devotion. In my childhood itself, I wasinspired by my parents to visitShiva temple daily to offer milkywater on Shiva Linga and to visita famous Shiva temple everyyear on Shivratri. This continuedfor ten years without a breakuntil I got admission in I.I.T.Delhi in 1966 for myengineering. As various Gurustalked differently about thesame God, I developed a strongdesire to know the truth aboutHim. I completed my B. Tech.in 1971, MBA in 1978 and laterCAIIB-I.

How did you get the divineknowledge?

In 1986, B.K. Virendra Gupta,

C.A., became instrumental inintroducing me to this GodlyKnowledge in a B.K.centre in Hyderabad. I hadcertain doubts regarding bhaktirituals and as B.K. Sis. Kuldeepsuccessfully removed mydoubts; I felt that I had come tothe right place. Then my motherand I did the Seven-Day coursebut due to heavy work-load inthe office, I did not attend theMurli classes regularly. Later Igot transferred to Mumbaibranch of my bank and thesisters at Matunga centrebecame instrumental in creatingdeep interest of all the fourmembers of my family (me, myyugal, Tapish (son) and Nikita(daughter) in the knowledge andlove for Baba.

Which ideas/point ofknowledge/values attracted

you and inspired you?(i). Shiva and Shankar are not

the same; Shiva is the creatorand Shankar is the creation–this

point of knowledge fascinatedme the most (ii). I have beenselected by God Shiva, i.e., ShivBaba to become His Right Handin the task of worldtransformation. These pointstouched my heart deeply andinspired me to make sincereefforts to bring worldtransformation through selftransformation. What obstacles did you face

on the divine path andhow did you handle them? How to avoid eating food

cooked outside my home wasthe only problem which I facedinitially with friends and relativesduring various parties/programsbut it became easy due to mydetermination and active supportfrom my wife Lily andmultimillion times help ofsweet Baba. I realised thatevery friend and relativereconciled to our food habits andthere was never a problem forus. By Baba’s grace, we couldremain stable on our principle oftaking home-made vegetarianand satvic food only. In fact thisprinciple became helpful for us

(An IIT Delhi graduate, B.K. Bro. Yogeshwar Kumar, worked invarious capacities in Andhra Bank in India. to do spiritual service.Urmila, my aunt, was so much

impressed by our principles ofhaving satvic food during onerelative’s marriage party thatlater she herself became a B.K.She started a sub-centre in herown building at Sambhal, U.P.,after having experienced variousdivine visions of Brahma Baba.During my inspection of the bankbranch at Jamshedpur as ZonalManager in 1995-96, I tookBrahma Bhojan at the centrealong with the branch manager. The manager was impressed bythe pure and selfless love of thebrothers and sisters at the centreand became a BK shortlythereafter.

What help andassistance did you get inyour personal as well asprofessional life becauseof the B.K. principles and

beliefs?God Shiva has been helping

me every moment, in everysituation/challenge both inpersonal as well as professionallife. He gave me everything onecould wish including power, position and money in India aswell as on a foreign land throughGovernment of Nigeria (Africa)assignment. Baba has fulfilled allmy desires and groomed my lifeso beautifully that I have nodesire left except alwaysremembering Him and/or

churning knowledge till I leavethis body and rest in His lap. Igive below just a few examplesout of many:

1. During the 1990s, I wasposted as Chief Manager of themain branch of Andhra Bank atMumbai. Mr. Harshad Mehta, the scam master of 90s, who wasour branch’s customer, hadoffered to fulfil any of desiresprovided I favoured him illegallyagainst the norms of the bank.Baba’s teachings saved mefrom temptation and I toldMehta that I was not the rightchoice for him. He becameupset and left the bankpremises; and later as everyoneknows he was jailed and died.

2. In 1994, I was posted asAsst. General Manager, incharge of Calcutta zone (ZonalManager) to bring peace in thechaotic zone where there wastotal stagnation and no growthin the bank business. No officerwanted to go there due tofrequent gheraos and the cruel/violent methods used by bankemployees’ union against theirsuperiors. After few days of myjoining, the union gheraoed meat the zonal office premisesdemanding immediatecancellation of transfers of somemembers of the staff whichwere ordered by the earlierzonal manager. I assured themto look into their genuine

problems but not under force/gherao. They pulled mychair and I had to sit on the flooralong with my Chief Managerand personnel officer; thenI went into meditation. SisterKanan of Museum centre,Calcutta advised me not to worryas they would send yogavibrations to me from the centreduring gherao. The union peoplewere amazed to see my tension-free face during gherao and leftwith a desire to learn aboutRajyoga of Brahma Kumaris. Itwas my first and the last gheraoduring my two-year stay inCalcutta and during that periodthe zonal business grew 100%a n d t h e z o n e b e c a m edisciplined. In fact ‘SundayBanking’ (all 7 days banking) atthe bank’s Alipore branch wasstarted during those daysand ‘Sunday Banking’ wasinaugurated by Rajyogini B.K.Nirmal Shanta Dadi herself asthe Chief Guest. It was the firstsuccessful experiment inbanking industry in WestBengal.

3. A very senior officer of ourbank wanted some undue favourfailing which he threatened tostop my promotion. I did notoblige him as that was againstthe interest of the bank. B.K.Sis. Vandana (Matunga centre)advised me not to be worriedand instead attend the interview

Page 18: 02. World Renewal-Feb15

The World Renewal, February 2015 19

process. The other members ofthe interview committeerepresenting Reserve Bank ofIndia and The Ministry ofFinance appreciated myperformance, and finally, I waspromoted.

4. In 2003, I took voluntaryretirement (VRS) from GeneralManager’s post and joined asTechnical Adviser to theExecutive Governor of TheKwara State Government inNigeria (Africa). I was there forfull five years and travelled evenduring early mornings fearlesslybecause Baba alwaysaccompanied me and it was arecord that I was never attackedby armed robbers. In fact theExecutive Governor invited bothSis. Rewa, from Lagos centreand Sis. Kreena from London,to the capital city as the guestsof the Nigerian Govt., for aThree-Day program on PositiveThinking; which wasinaugurated by their Dy.Governor.

Which divine principles/inculcations/spiritual code of

conduct do you follow andhow do you find them useful

in your personal life? I try my best to follow Baba’s

daily Shrimat. I never missAmritvela meditation and Murliclass in the morning, an Avyaktmurli in the evening followed bythe evening yoga from 6.30 p.m.

to 7.30 p.m. Besides, I writeMurli quiz both in Hindi andEnglish regularly for BKs andam pursuing some projects givenby SpARC Wing of the BKs.Innate qualities of the soul – Peace, Truth, Happiness, Loveand Purity are the foundation ofall virtues and powers. Forexample, the virtues such aspatience, tolerance, courage etc.,are obtained by mixing the basicqualities in differentpermutations and combinations,e.g. Patience (peace, love and, power), Humility (love, peaceand truth) and Courage (powerand truth). This in turn leads tomy refined behaviour. Thesedivine principles have givenwonderful results.

What are your plans forfuture? Do you think you didthe right thing by becoming

a B.K.? Since Shiv Baba has adopted

me, now I aim to inculcate allvirtues and qualities of an angellike Brahma Baba at theearliest. Therefore, after Baba’sadvice on ACHANAK(SUDDENLY), EVERREADYand LONG TIME PRACTICEof being detached from the bodyin 2007, I took a flat in BKColony, became life member ofSpARC (Spiritual Applicationsof Research Centre), SEW andTivra Purusharth (IntenseEffort) groups. Baba has

adopted me and is helping/guiding/protecting me at everymoment of my life. I considermyself to be very fortunate inbecoming a member of theGodly family and a Godlystudent.

Based on yourexperiences, what would yousuggest to others so that theymay get maximum benefit

from the spiritualknowledge?

I would suggest toeveryone that our daily routinemust comprise a very powerfulAmritvela meditation, followedby the Murli class, an avyaktMurli in the evening followed byevening yoga from 6.30 p.m. to7.30 p.m. Listen Rajyogaclasses regularly so as to refinethe experience of meditation atAmritvela. One must maintaina daily chart of remembrance,Godly service, inculcation ofdivine virtues etc. Total trust isnecessary for havingdetermination and achievingsuccess in life.

What are your specialtiesand talents that you wish touse in Baba’s service andhow do you plan to utilize

them?I have the hobby of daily

reading and churning Baba’sAvyakt Murlis and conductingor participating in collectiveyoga for hours together, without

Page 19: 02. World Renewal-Feb15

20 The World Renewal, February 2015

feeling tired. I plan to utilize this hobby for becoming

introvert, changing my old habits, burning mydie-hard resolves, to experience my innerpowers and with that experience,to spread deep and fundamental concepts ofthis Godly knowledge among other brothers/sisters and to do service with the mind (MansaSeva) for souls and the five elements as muchas possible.

Baba says ‘’Charity Begins at Home’’.What efforts have you made/plan to make

about serving yourimmediate family members?

As mentioned earlier, I started practising theknowledge given by BKs and my mother alsobecame a BK in 1988. Later on, mywife started to follow this divine path followedby both my children. My son is a regular studentat Milpitas centre (CA, USA). In fact nowUrmila Behn, my aunt at Sambhal (UP) andSneh Behn, sister-in-law in Bareilly are alsoregular students. During my service in AndhraBank many of my colleagues, managers andexecutives became Shiv Baba’s children. Thecredit for all this goes to one and only one –God Shiva!

Divinity is present within us. Throughthe art of connecting with our innatequalities and using them in ourinteractions with different individuals ofsociety, we come to realise divinity thatlies within us. This is the root of religiousstriving. For attainment of a wondrous lifeof authenticity, we should be able toovercome ordinary desires andtemptations. To achieve good we have torenounce evil. To realize divinity which isour real goal, we need to go within beyondthe externally material driven world.

It is possible to concentrate our mindon the goal of spiritual progress andperform duties of our life simultaneously. For this we don’t need to renounce theworld but turn to spirit, raise our level ofconsciousness and lift the quality of ourthoughts.

How do we develop and strengthen anattitude of helping others to the best ofour abilities? We should have theunderstanding that notwithstanding theiroutward shape, complexion, caste, religion, people have within themselvesa huge source of divinity. Even the peoplewho are unaware of their inner beautyshould be regarded; we should wish themwell and strive for their welfare. A manwho claims to love God and godlinesscannot hate his brother or neighbourbecause he looks at the goodness anddivinity present deep within each soul. Ifwe can have a sense of love andbrotherhood for all living beings, itamounts to our faith and trust in God.

A LIGHT OF LIFE– B.K. Meera, Jayanagar, Mysore

STAYING POWERWhen you have staying power, you have thestick-at-it-iveness. Like a postage stamp, you’re able to stick at one thing until youget there. So, even when there are lots ofmini-failures, don’t stop! Use your strength, energy and focus to steer your way throughthe obstacles, and stay with it. Useperseverance and somewhere along theroad ‘success’ will show up.

It is indeed remarkable tonote that the word forstrength, virility and power

in Hindu culture is representedby the term “Shakti”. Shakti isthe all prevailing universalmanifestation of the feminineand is symbolized by variousnames such as Durga, Lakshmi,Saraswati and Vaishnu Devi asthe goddesses of strength, wealth, valour and power. Allmale power is said to be derivedfrom this universal power andstrength of women. As perHindu Mythology and literature, kings and cities were completelydestroyed because a singlewoman was wronged by thestate or those in power. Theepics of Ramayana andMahabharata are examples ofthe fate met by Ravana and theKauravas for insulting women.

Even in the early Copper Age(Dwapur Yug), some twothousand and five hundred yearsago, women and men in Bharathad equal rights in all aspects oflife including education andreligion. There were greatwomen scholars who masteredthe religious texts and in fact

creation of these texts itself wasa joint effort of women and menrishis. The Vedas andUpanishads, the first andforemost sacred texts ofHinduism, mention in detailvarious rituals involving womenas well as the contributions ofwomen scholars andphilosophers of those times. Butwith passage of time, womenwere suppressed, andcondemned as unequal andwere excluded from religiouspractices and barred fromentering some places of worship.

Various religions, be itHinduism or Christian Churches, proclaimed the physical, social, intellectual and religiousinferiority of women andcastigated them as “the devil’sgateway.” In Islam, men areconsidered to be in charge oftheir women in chastising andreminding them regarding theirobligations towards men. Menare commanders and the womenhave to obey them in all matters. This lack of equality and attitudeof disrespect has taken its rootsnot only in religious, sociologicaland cultural systems but more

particularly within theconsciousness of masses, withyoung girls instilled with feelingsof fear, humiliation andunworthiness.

Also, the girl child in ourcountry is indoctrinated, fromthe very young age, to regard theman whom she marries as herguru. Although this is no longerthe norm now, yet the wife iseven now expected to obey andpay obeisance to her husband inall circumstances like thedisciple does to a guru. In themoral rot that has set in theworld of today, it is the womanwho has to bear the brunt of theman’s lust, anger, greed and ego.I am reminded in this connectionof the famous stanza of the poetAkbar Allahbadi whobemoaned this sorry state ofaffairs in lines which, translatedinto simple English, say that theother day when he saw someyoung girls without their veils, hewas too embarrassed to look atthem; when asked what hadhappened to the veil, they werequick to reply that it had insteadbeen used to cover the goodsense of their men folk. At a timewhen women are treated withutter contempt and disgrace, GodHimself comes and helpswomen to acknowledge thegreatness that lies within theself. He gives the divineknowledge of the Eternal self –the soul as one understands that

every human being has a reservoir of qualitieswhich has nothing to do with gender or physicallimitations.

It is time for Him to take the world’s affairsinto His own hands since all the religion founders, saints, rishis, mahatmas, gurus and preachersof the world have not been able to set thingsright although they have brought a semblanceof stability in the cosmos. The wonderful thingis that God is already doing the job of building anew world or, rather, re-building the old into anew one. And even more wonderful is that Godhas again turned towards women and entrustedthem with the task of building the new world. He has placed the urn of knowledge on younggirls and mothers and has given them the rightto serve the world as spiritual leaders.

For those who do not know even better newsis that the task of re-building the world is alreadyunder way. It has been undertaken by PrajapitaBrahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya,a spiritual world university established by GodHimself, with its headquarters at Mount Abu inRajasthan. The aim of the organisation is to teachhuman beings the seven values of Knowledge,Purity, Peace, Love, Happiness, Bliss and Powerin order to rejuvenate the world in general andBharat in particular, and regain the glorious past– the Golden Age. The university, as its namesuggests, is being run under the over-all controland management of Brahma Kumari sisters, daughters of Prajapita Brahma, the corporealmedium through whom the university has beenfounded by God. The woman who is called thehomemaker has been given a much bigger role– that of teaching and transforming the mankind.

Now, the famous quote of Shakespeare –“Frailty, thy name is woman” – needs to bereplaced by a new quote: “Shakti, thy name isBrahma Kumari”.

Festivals and spiritualtraditions are mainfeatures of Indian

culture. On the one hand, thesecelebrations denote zest andvivacity of the community; on theother, they are also a powerfulmedium of social awareness.Every festival brings the feelingsof happiness and prosperity withit. One of the prominent festivalsof India is Holi which is quiteunique and special. Holi, alsocalled the Festival of Spring, iscelebrated in the full moonlightof the Hindu month of Phagunwith a lot of zeal and enthusiasmespecially in the land of Krishna– ‘Brij’. With the arrival ofspring, mind gets immersed inthe waves of fervour; theenvironment gets charged withthe vibrations of happiness andmerriment. Holi is a festival oflove, with a feeling of belonging, yearning to hug each other. Thiswonderful morning of thefestival gets drenched withvibrant colours, while theevening gets painted with redpowder.

There is a mythological legendbehind the celebration of this

festival of colours. It is said thatas per the ordinance of anatrocious king Hiranyakashyap, his sister Holika who had theboon of being immune to fire, took Hiranyakashyap’s sonPrahalad in her lap and sat in thebonfire so as to kill him byburning alive. Astonishingly,Prahalad, who was LordVishnu’s great devotee, wasn’teven touched by the fire, butHolika got burnt and turned intoashes. Thus, there was victoryof truth over falsehood and thatof theism over atheism. Therefore, every year, on theeve of full moon in the month ofPhagun, heaps of wood areburnt, which is also called thebonfire of Holika and devoteeswish for the end of evils and thestart of a bright future.

Burn Such a HoliThe tradition of burning the

wood and cow dung cakes is

observed every year and we feelthat just by performing this ritual,we have burnt the bonfire ofHolika and saved Prahalad. Butwe need to ponder the devils ofpoverty, deprivation, inflation, unemployment, malnutrition, communalism, terrorism, extremism and corruption thatare making a mockery of ourHoli celebrations. Even thoughwe have burnt the apparentwooden bonfire, we have failedto burn the evils and demon ofextremism, which is omnipresentin the minds of people, societyand country. They are burningus even today. They arelaughing at our foolishness ofwhat we had to burn and whatwe are burning.

The colours which we havebeen using on Holi haveremained ineffective. This colourhas failed to leave a long-lastingimpact of maintaining communalunity, social goodwill and politicalequilibrium. It has also failed tolead humanity towards the pathof progress; connecting heartswith hearts and breaking the potof sins of Hiranyakashyaps,Kansas and Ravanas. Holicomes to flow the river of purelove in life.

Holi – a memorial ofConfluence Age

Every Indian festival hasmany spiritual meanings inherentin it and it is futile to celebrate afestival without understanding its

underlying spiritual essence. The Holi ofDwapur and Kaliyug that is played withgulal and colours is in fact a memorial ofHoli of the Confluence Age, which wasplayed with the colours of Knowledge. The festival of Holi reminds us of the endof Kaliyuga and beginning of Satyuga, forit is at that juncture that the Supreme SoulGod Shiva incarnated and coloured thesouls with divine Knowledge. Thatauspicious communion with God iscelebrated every year. But being unawareof its real significance, people play Holiwith artificial colours and thus, waste theirprecious time, money, wealth and energy. There is a special slogan spoken whilethrowing coloured water on each other –‘Don’t feel bad; it is Holi’. Can it be calleda festival if it makes people feel bad?Burning mental pollution, negativity, arrogance etc., in the fire ofRemembrance of God is the real bonfireof Holika. The colour of Godly Company,i.e., the colour of Godly knowledge, is infact what gives zeal and enthusiasm.

Celebrate Holi as Ho-liThe meaning of Holi, in other words,

can also be inferred as Ho-li, i.e., lettingthe past be past. That is to say that oneshouldn’t be worried about what hasalready happened and in future, whateverkarma has to be performed, should bedone in God’s remembrance. The word‘Holy’ means pure; so, whatever karmais to be performed it should not be underthe influence of any vice.

Thus, Holi is a festival of victory ofvirtues over vices, justice over injusticeand sweetness over bitterness. Holi givesus an opportunity to recognize the colours

of Peace, Love, Purity and Joy that we have withinourselves and implement them in our life. We need todilute such a colour so that the rust on humanity shouldbe erased forever. Let’s burn all our evils on this Holi.Let all sort of discriminations be removed. Then only thereal Holika will be burnt and Prahalad, i.e., man willremain safe. Then only we’ll be able to spread the coloursof happiness and sprinkle the colour (gulal) of freedom. And then only the basic hidden perception of Holi willprove to be useful.

Let’s burn old tendencies and resolves,And write a new history with God’s pen of divinity!Colour our life with knowledge and virtues,Imbued with peace, happiness, unity and valuesRemoving evil thoughts, and all bitter feelingsCreate a happy universe, with compassionate dealings

I am Bro. Kinyua from Kenyaand have been doing Godlyservice in Liberia, one of the

West African countries thathave been badly hit with thedeadly Ebola virus that so far hasno known medical cure and killsup to 90% of those who getinfected. When the outbreakwas announced, one of therecommendations by theGovernment was that publicgatherings of any kind should behalted as Ebola is basicallyspread through bodily contact.

We had to halt all our serviceplans and had to cancel variousprogrammes. As the situation gotworse, schools had to be closeddown and even whole ministriesof the government were closeddown where the virus had struckone of the workers. Eventuallymost of the hospitals also closeddown as a number of medicalattendants succumbed to thevirus. We reluctantly had to closethe Brahma Kumaris centreeven for regular students.

This meant spending weeksin the centre alone; we couldonly read the Murli and share

some inspirations with studentsover the phone. It was aroundthis time that the project of‘Being with One’ concept wascirculated, and I thought howdrama and Baba werebestowing me and the Liberiafamily with a unique chance ofexperimenting with ‘Being withOne’.

The ‘Living Yagya’ conceptalso came to me in a verypractical way, as besides theconstant companionship ofBaba, I experienced constantsustenance from the divinefamily. There were calls andemails from Sister Vedanti withinspirations and ideas, and callsfrom Bro. Perkin from Nairobi.Bro. Tony of Nairobi workedvery hard to get me on a flightout of Liberia especially once theairlines started cancelling theirflights to Liberia with mostforeigners trying to get out. There were many others whosent messages or personallycalled giving support andinspirations that made clear thefeeling that ours was a veryliving and functioning family.

I, at last, was scheduled to flyout on 20th August on a Kenyaairways flight to Nairobi whenthe news came out that theKenya Government has bannedall flights after 19th August, which meant my scheduled flightwould not take place. Their lastflight was scheduled to be on18th August out of Monrovia.Bro. Tony in Nairobi tried tohave me on that last flight but tono avail. It was fully bookedwith a long waiting list. I wasadvised to go to the airport andtry my luck. On that day, I wentearly to the airport but themanager said there was nochance he could put me on thatflight as the waiting list was longbut I could wait anyway.Reasonably it looked like therewas no chance of getting on thatlast flight. Their systems brokedown and so the check in wasbeing done manually and it tooka long time while we waited. Allthe time I was feeling that Babawas right there with me. A lotof those on the waiting list gaveup and left as we had beenwaiting for nearly six hours andeventually when only nine of uswere left, the managerannounced that he had threevacant seats. I kept my cool andat some point, the managerpointed out to me and told othersthat if they could be as patientas I had been, it would be easier

for him to see how he could helpus. Anyway, after theirreconciliations, everybody didget on the last flight, and I wasliterally the very last passengerto get a seat on that last flightout of Monrovia.

As I sat on that flight back toNairobi, I reflected on howfortunate I was and also the hugetask that we have to do. Thefear that the Ebola virus hadcreated and disruptions in thecommunities involved meant thatthe souls were in dire need ofpeace as most of the physicalsupports like hospitals and evenchurches were not functioningand the whole communities werebeing quarantined. It’s not thedeaths that Ebola was causingbut the big problem was the fearand uncertainty it had created inthe whole country and in thewhole West African region. Thevibrations of fear are pervasivewhich make souls sometimesbehave in ways that are irrationaland cause damage.

The appropriateness of‘Being with One’ could not bemore relevant and timely.

We require everythingtoday in an instant,be it love, happiness,

food, money or gratification. Yeteven when we acquire thesedesires in our lives, they arealways followed by instantsorrow that too a constant one. Thus, we enter the realms ofendless spinning of want, desire, get, accumulate and thensorrow.

Temporary HappinessIt is the law of today that if

what we strive for is not good, itwill make us feel not good whenwe have it in our hands, mouthor wearing it. Most desires inlife are without goodness, lackself-control, real quality andspirituality. Most desires are tofeed the senses and not the soul. The soul is starved of goodnesswhilst the senses are overfed, polluted and corrupted by toomany bad things. The result isthat the belly of the mind growsever sicklier, ever weaker andaway from happiness. Thehappiness of today is temporaryhappiness as it is gained from

stuff, things, objects andeverything material. The onlyhappiness that nourishes andfeeds the soul is invisible as itcomes in the form of thoughtsand feelings of love, Peace,Purity and returning results ofpast good deeds bringing anunexpected smile to your face.

Even More HappinessWhat do you need – love or a

new shirt, peace or chocolate, inner powers or a new car? Ishealth best or wealth? I seemany poor happy people as Isee many glum, depressed richpeople. Who would you preferto be: poor and happy or rich andsad? Who is better? You shouldask yourself this question.Think Happy Thought, And

You Will Be ThinHappiness in the form of pure

thoughts will make you light andbeautiful. Happiness in the formof wealth and materialism willalways mould in the end by itsnature as it sits in you rotting. The wise would put themselveson the healthy diet of purethoughts, words and action. The

house (life) they build from thisdiet will be very strong andhealthy: it will have a welcomingfront door and many windows.

Generally people’s lives arebuilt on the quicksand of‘instant’ diet (happiness). Whathappens to a house that is builton mud? What happens to ahouse without strongfoundation? Today the mud ofmodern life is so heavy andstressful that it can pull downeven the strongest, and it does.Life has become real quicksandno matter where you sit; be thatat home on your sofa, the office, the bus, train, plane or asleep inyour bed. Life is a continualquicksand that has no limits orboundaries and can be foundunderfoot even when outwalking with your family orfriends trying to relax or walkingthe dog to the shops.

The number one quicksandin which everyone sinks up tohis or her neck is body-consciousness. Number two isanger and number three isselfishness. There are manydifferent kinds of quicksand inwhich people sink, yet these areby far the top few in which allfall and sink at some point andget trapped and sucked under.

and desires, you’ll know thathormones are one of the mostpotent forces on earth and more

powerful and controlling thangravity, religion and science. Youwant to ‘go’ that way, yourhormones drag you ‘the other’way. You want to go for a walk;the hormone wants to drag youto bed. You want to stay in, thehormone wants to go out andplay.

LifeMost people are on the wrong

side of ‘road’. The few that arewalking right are seen as wrong. For the majority today, trying tofind real happiness is like tryingto write your name on water orin the sand in a blizzard. How to Survive A Million

YearsIf you believe in the body then

you have only to survive thisbirth, right? If you believe in thatyou are an eternal soul and thereis a God, then you are faced witheternity and a thousand years oflife and more. So the presentshould be of paramountimportance to you, as it’s thespringboard to your future liveswith yourself either enjoyingthose endless lives in happinessor not. So it is important to learnto swim (live) correctly if youare going to swim in happinessforever. Many who have notlearnt to swim (be spiritual) willdrown mentally as the physicalpains of life spent over thousandsof years will prove too painfultime and again with each of their

births. The result of this constantpain is that by the end of theirmany births, they will havebecome incredibly weak andprone to great unhappiness andstress.I Do Not Believe In That

Which I Cannot See (In theInvisible)

Should you believe in thatwhich you cannot see? Afterall, it may not be there. Yetmaybe you can see its reactionin the world out there – invisibleyet present. I cannot see gravitybut I believe in it. I have notbeen to Australia but I believeit exists. I believe in God thoughI have not seen Him, because Ifeel Him, meet Him and talkwith Him. So I do believe in theinvisible. I also believe stronglyin the effects of this visibleworld: this world of constantsuffering, unhappiness, disease, killing, misery, fraudand cruelty. I believe that thisworld should be avoided at allcosts as often as possible. Ibelieve this world is nowpoisonous with its peoplebecoming more sorrowful witheach passing minute. I believein the visible and the invisible.God, the invisible offers hope, answers and a new world. Thevisible world offers sorrow, misery and suffering. Whatwill you see today: The visibleor invisible?

So dance byall means and feel free and happyand relaxed but choose the rightdance and get the right dancepartner who will make youhappy and keep you in perfectrhythm. This dance partner willmake you very fit, healthy andhappy as it is a natural dance ofspirit and body. The dance oftoday goes round in circles andthen takes you backwards andtrips you up to fall blindly onthe floor.

One is the dance that will keepyou stuck in hell with itsegotistical body-consciousness,whilst the other dance is one thatwill lead you to heaven with alife of constant happiness as itsrhythm is based on eternal truthand righteousness. The impuredance goes against nature andso will go against happiness. The

unnatural dance of body-consciousness takes you twosteps forward, then three back.

We Have To Act Following the Path of PrinciplesThere is just one drama. When the ancient religion of Bharat,

which existed right from the beginning, falls, other religions comein its place. In the beginning, there was only one Deity kingdomand one religion. When its power reduced, other religions cameand their power continued to increase for some time. As the dramacontinues to move in this manner, the end of all the religions comes. Finally the Father comes and establishes our ancient religion.

Water, one of the fiveelements of Nature,is a great healer. It

has the unique properties ofcleaning, dissolving andremoving the dirt. It givesstrengthening and bracing effecton human body. After a day’shard work, we wash our hands, face and feet and becomerefreshed within a minute or two.In our culture, we offer a pot fullof water to guests visiting ourhouse. Water can be used inwarm or cold state. It can alsobe used in the form of ice orsteam. In all cases of pain, in anypart of the body due tocongestion; warm waterfollowed by cold waterapplication is very useful.Application of steam producessweating and helps indetoxification. In swelling of anypart of body, obesity and aches;application of steam followed bywashing with cold water is veryhelpful in removing the trouble.

One important use of wateris to strengthen the legs or handsor any part of the body whichhas become weak due to somecause or disease. This feat isachieved by using cold wateronly. For example, if the legs are

weak, water is poured on thelegs from the upper part of kneesto feet from all sides of the legby the sprayer or tap or pipe ormug and without drying thewater; the legs are to be coveredby a bed sheet and woolenblanket for half an hour to warmthe legs. After washing the legs, one can warm the legs by doingexercise or walking for half anhour. This applicationstrengthens the legs within 10 to15 days.

Cold water can also be usedto increase the vitality or overallhealth of a person. For this, onehas to take a bath in cold waterquickly within 2 minutes withoutdrying the body, wear the dressand go for a walk. For warmingthe body, lie on a bed wellcovered by a blanket.

We find people loitering onthe wet grass bare feet early inthe morning. This is a very goodpractice because it has a goodeffect on the eyes and in toningup the entire body. If webecome a little bit careful, wecan increase the benefit ofwalking on wet grass in themorning. After walking for 10-20 minutes, one shouldimmediately wear a pair of dry

thick socks (preferably cotton)so that the benefit of walking isincreased to a greater extent. Ifthis is not available, one maywalk on the road for 5 to 10minutes immediately afterwalking on the grass.

In injury, cold waterapplication is really veryeffective for getting relief.

Once, a medium sizedhammer fell on the feet of my8-year-old grandson. The toewas hit by the hammer and therewas a depression on the spot dueto impact of the hammer. Theplace was discoloured and hecried out in pain. Since I wasthere, I immediately came to hisrescue. I took him to thebathroom and immersed hisaffected foot well into cold waterwhich was already there in thetub. The boy felt some relieffrom pain. I kept the foot forabout 3 minutes until the painslowly reduced to tolerable limitand brought him to the bedroomto cover his affected foot with aTurkish towel for about half anhour. It acted wonderfully well.I gave water again after threehours and thus, covered the footas such completely. Beforecovering the foot, it was not tobe dried by the towel.

The pain was gone by theevening. The incident took placein the morning and before I gaveany medicine (HomeopathicMedicine – Arnica Montanna is

a very good medicine in such cases) water therapywas used immediately to give relief and comfort.

Cold water in any such injury worksmiraculously. Such injury generally producesecchymosis (bluish colouration) on the affectedpart. To my surprise, there was no suchdiscolouration on his toe.

Once, a B.K. sister was suffering from severedry cough. That day she could not conduct the Murliclass. I advised her to apply a cold water packcompressed on the throat. Prepared in this manner,a small towel or napkin is to be folded into threelayers and soaked in cold water. It was squeezedtightly so that no water dripped. I asked her to wrapit round her neck. Then a dry big towel was wrappedaround the cold towel to prevent air to touch theneck. This is a pack which should be placed forabout half an hour. This is to be repeated two-threetimes continuously until the cough is relieved. Thisapplication of water relieved the cough of the sisterwhich was very irritating and painful. She couldtake the class the next day. Sometimes, headacheis relieved by applying a neck pack, especially if itis of nervous origin. Water is a very effective toolfor restoring disorders to normalcy if applied suitably.

Sometimes we suffer from sprain of leg whichcan be similarly relieved by dipping the leg in coldwater and then covering the wet part (It shouldnot be wiped and dried) with the bed sheet or awoollen shawl or blanket to prevent cold air to touchthe part. Applying cold water contracts the partand covering thereafter warms it. This facilitatesblood circulation and diseased cells are washedaway and pain is relieved in a harmless way.

Water application is not so popular in India. InGermany, it is widely used for gaining health andhappiness. We need to learn its use properly so thatit can be used during minor accidents/ailments andsave our time and money spent on doctor’s help.

At present, the working of the Godlywood, though humanistic and cooperative, is dividedinto 19 various departments, with each beingindependent in its own functioning and yetbeing an integral and significant part of thestudio. Some of these departments are-Animation and VFX department, Graphicsdepartment, News department, WingsDepartment, Global IT department, TheSpeaking Tree department, OverseasCommunication and various Languagedepartments like Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati,Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam, apart from theCivil and Maintenance department.

No doubt it was with the bountiful blessingsand support of Shiv Baba that the BrahmaKumaris could undertake such a bold initiative.Of course, the human medium in the form ofRajyogini Dadis and sisters and Rajyogibrothers executed the Godly plan and madeselfless devoted efforts to give Godlywood itspresent stature and shape in the service ofmankind and for the attainment of Godly visionand goal. The project at present is in its initialstage and aspires to develop and integrate themost modern facilities in its field, only withthe goal of ridding the human society of itsvices and evils and to herald the Golden Eraof Satyuga.

(Contd. from page no. 3)Naked or Digambara

The very first thing to benoticed is that he is shownwithout clothes, stark and un-adorned. He is called a‘Digambara’. The word‘Digambara’ means the one whowears no clothes but rather thedirections – East, West, Northand South – are His clothes.Evidently, this is true of Shiva, the Incorporeal Supreme Being, because He does not have anygross or subtle body, which inspiritual parlance, is comparedto dress or clothes of the soul.Otherwise, Shankar the deitycannot be unclad, for he doeshave a subtle body. The objectin portraying thus seems to showthat Shiva, the Incorporeal, isalways soul-conscious. If weunderstand its true import, itmeans that anyone, who aspiresemancipation should have nodesires to garnish or adorn theself but should be soul-conscious,but interpreting it wrongly, manySadhus live in Digambara orNaga i.e. naked forms.

Ashes on the BodyNot only is he Digambara, but

he is shown besmeared withashes. It highlights the conceptof work without illusions ofresults. Shiva acts without desireof any fruit. To Him, everythingis like ashes, i.e. without anyattraction to Him. But ignorant

of its deeper meaning, someSadhus besmear their bodieswith ashes believing that it willplease the Lord. Others thinkShankar rubs ashes on his body, though the fact remains that thebody of a deity, being subtle andluminous, cannot be rubbed withashes nor are any ashes to befound there.

In Indian literature, snakeresting in coiled posturerepresents Kaal or Time in itscontinuity. It also representsdestruction and reconstructionby means of its tail and headrespectively. So it signifies thatGod is not bound by Time orKaal, ‘but rather Time offersitself as a decorative adjunct ofShiva.

The Matted Hair and theGanges

When a person discussessome topics, going into itsabstractions, sometimesunnecessary, we say that it is ahair-splitting talk into which heis indulging. In Hindi they say:he is ‘drawing out the skin ofhair’. Thus hair is sometimesassociated with thinking or givingknowledge. In the present case, the hair shown are ‘matted hair’and the Ganges shown flowingdown from it. Generally threematted locks are shownrepresenting Godly Knowledge,Rajyoga (Meditation) and Divinequalities or values. The Ganga

flowing out from these indicatesthe revelation of these three forpurification and redemption ofsouls. But ignorant of this occultor mystic meaning, some Sadhusdon matted hair and the peopleat large think that the riverGanges is a means ofpurification!

CHANGING MY THOUGHTPATTERNS

Why is it that we can’t change the pattern of our thoughtsso easily? Imagine a bird being so comfortable in its nestthat though perhaps sometimes it stands on the branchof the tree to inflate its chest and adjust its feathers, itnever wants to fly and does not even realize it could fly. Itnever knows the blissful freedom of flight, never feels thewind through its wings. It thinks the other birds that areflying around are unwise or foolish. In much the sameway, we never really leave our nests of old thought patterns. Our habitual thoughts become our comfort zone and eachrepetitive thought pattern is like a twig in the nest, whichmakes the nest stronger and our stay in the nest seeminglycomfortable and permanent. We never experience ourtrue spiritual freedom or flight or feel the breeze of ourinner beautiful nature. Even the thought, “I am a soul”has to be realized eventually, so that we can actuallyexperience its deepest truth.

In the world of spirituality, thoughts are like the map, butthey are neither the territory nor the reality of theexperience. Thinking * I am a peaceful soul or * I am alove-full soul or * I am powerful soul is not being soul-conscious; it is only theory or knowledge, but it is definitelyan essential start. Maps are important and necessary, until we know the way home to experience. Reaching thisfinal destination of experience makes it easier for us andempowers us to transform or change our old thoughtpatterns.
