Skeletal System • The skeletal system is made up of

the: • Skull• Spinal column• Humerus• Ribs• Pelvis• Femur• Tibia• Fibula

The main purpose: • To support your body • Protect internal organs• Helps with movement

Circulatory System: • The main purpose: • Move blood throughout the body.

• The circulatory system includes: • Heart• Organ that pumps blood through blood

vessels.• Arteries• Largest blood vessels that send blood to

your body. • Veins• Carry blood back to the heart.

• Capillaries • Small blood vessels that carry blood

from the arteries to the body.

Digestive System: • The organs involved in the

Digestive system: • Mouth• Esophagus • Liver• Gallbladder• Stomach• Pancreas• Small intestine• Large intestine• Rectum • Anus

The process food goes through during digestion: • When you chew and then swallow the food

moves down the esophagus. • Bile from the liver goes to the small

intestine through the gallbladder. From the esophagus, food moves to the stomach and then the small intestine.

• Nutrients move from the small intestine to the blood. The rest goes to the large intestine.

• The large intestine takes out the water. The solid waste continues on.

• Solid waste moves from the rectum out of the body through the anus.

Respiratory System: • The organs involved in the

respiratory process: • Bronchi• Capillaries • Nose• Mouth• Trachea• Lungs

Page 12: { Body Systems. The Body systems: 1.Skeletal 2.Circulatory 3.Digestive 4.Excretory 5.Muscular 6.Nervous 7.Respiratory

The Respiratory System Process: 1.Oxygen enters through the mouth

and nose. 2.Oxygen is transported through

the trachea down the bronchi tubes.

3.Oxygen is taken into the lungs. 4.Oxygen is converted to carbon

dioxide and travels through the path back out of the nose and mouth.

Muscular System: Three types of muscles: 1.Cardiac• Thick, automatic muscle that

pumps blood. 2.Smooth• Layers of muscle all over your

body; for breathing sneezing.3.Skeletal • Muscles that move bones,

voluntary, provide strength.

Excretory System: The main organs involved in the Excretory system: • Lungs• What: Water vapor and carbon dioxide• How: When you breathe out, your lungs

release water vapor and carbon dioxide. • Urinary system• What: Urine (waste cells makes)• How: Waste in the blood goes to your

kidneys, forms urine, and is released. • Skin • What: Sweat (perspiration) • How: Perspiration exits the body through

the sweat glands.

Nervous System:The main purpose of the Nervous System: • Nerves • Carry messages from and to parts of

your body.• Spinal cord• A long bundle of nerves that carry

messages to and from your brain. • Brain • Body’s control center that processes

information and stores memories.

Important Organs in the Body: • Skin

• Largest organ, protects tissues, bones, and other organs.

• Brain• Processes information and stores memories.

• Heart• Pumps blood through the body.

• Lungs• Assist the body for respiration.

• Stomach• Contains food and mixes it with juices.

• Liver• Makes bile, an important digestive liquid.

• Intestines• Removes nutrients and water from digested food.

• Kidney • Where wastes in blood collects.
