1924 La città verticale
macroisolati / urban blocks
residenza: 9000 abitanti – produzione: 90.000 mq
This decentralized city would
combine the advanteges of a
small town with those of a
metropolis. The metropolis
can be located in the
landscale. With its parks and
gardens it can, inedeed,
become part of the
landscape – urbs in orto –
the city set in garden –
Chicago’s old motto, could
become reality again.
L. Hilberseimer, 1949
The new regional pattern
The garden cities of tomorrow
could be the rediscovery of
America. Then it would be (a)
nation of ten or twenty milion
small farms, and of
productive parks and
vegetable gardens in the
parks, of sun-filled houses
and sun-filled apartments –
and all as one continuous
part of the living landscape –
the new city, the city of the
future which could be now.
A. Caldwell, 1984
