Introduction

• Name : Santhosh kaveri• Place : Shedbal (V), Athni (T), Belgaum(D),

Karnataka.• Education : 2nd year BBA, Samiti’s College of

Business Administration, Belgaum.• “He always believe that problems give me

an opportunity to innovate and help others,” .

Challenges in initial Stage• He faced many challenges for growing up . He come from a rural

background in the village of Shedbal, which is very remote.  • He used to walk 10 kilometers every day just to attend school.  • His family started facing different health and economic issues.  • In order to feed  his family, He had to start working on the farm. • He used to work on the farm every morning before class starting at 5

AM and he would continue working immediately after returning from classes every day.

• He spent the first six months of his college life sleeping in college classrooms as he wasn’t able to afford the cost of staying in a hostel.

• In the first year of his college life, he joined the LEAD Programmed at Deshpande Foundation to build upon his brilliant ideas.

Innovations

Santosh had an agricultural background and always noticed various problems which the farmers faced from the grass root level, thinking of ways to help them through his innovations like

1)Brake System for Bullock Cart

• Problem Identification: Even today, many farmers use Bullock cart to transport goods from one place to another place. carts were controlled by using a rope which was inserted in the nose of the bull and it was very painful to the animal.

• Solution:• Kaveri came up with a simple innovation to control the cart

without harming the bulls.• The brake liner is attached to the thread which is controlled by

the driver and brakes are in driver's hands and work in a similar fashion to those on a bike. 

• The driver can control the brakes at a height of 5 feet. 6

2)Carrot Cleaning Machine

• Problem Identification:• Kaveri saw the struggles of farmers facing to clean the carrots and make them look appealing to the customers. Cleaning one quintal of carrots

required the efforts of 12 people.• Solution:• After 11 failed attempts, he finally managed to develop a

Carrot Cleaning machine.• Carrot Cleaning machine could clean one quintal of carrots in

just 15 minutes with the help of only two people.

• The machine runs without electricity and requires very less water. 

• The cost of the machine depends on the capacity.• One quintal capacity machine costs around Rs.6,000-

Rs.7,000.

3)Hot water without geyser

• Problem Identification:• Another of his inventions helps us save the amount of gas.• Solution:•  The Eco Hot Water Coil, is a stovetop which performs two

functions at a time.•  It boils water for cooking and simultaneously collects it for

bathing.• The device is already functional in various hostels in and

around Belgaum, and they claim that this machine saves them around Rs.1,000 per month.

Achievements• He was awarded "Best Leader" by Ratan Tata

in 2013• 2014 again he was awarded “Best Leader”

.

Conclusion• The Young Rural Entrepreneur Who Is Helping Hundreds Of

Farmers With His Low-Cost Innovations• “He learnt a lot in this journey, the confidence that he gained is

precious. He would like to take this to the next level and develop more such machines to help people at grass root level".

• Santosh's story clearly teaches us a lesson. More such change makers, and we will see a totally different, undiscovered side of India!
