Flow Meters – Effi ciency and Installation
MICRONICS
A Flow Meter is an affordable piece of technology that offers the opportunity to gain greater control over manufacturing processes
In monitoring the flow of liquids and gases, it is easy to detect issues within the processes and make adjustments to improve flow
Flow Meters can reduce waste products and support quality control
EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT WITH FLOW METERS
Flow Meter data can inform decisions which lead to the implementation of efficiency measures, which save costs and time in manufacturing processes
Flow Meters also aid water management, by helping to maintain optimum water levels and detecting leaks or other issues where water is being wasted
EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT WITH FLOW METERS
There are many different options available, all of which are specifically designed to suit a variety of applications. So, what do you need to know to help you select the right option for your process?
Fluid Properties
You will find that Flow Meters are best suited to either liquid or gas flow measurement. If you require liquid flow monitoring for clean liquids including water, oils and chemicals, then a Transit-Time Flow Meter is recommended
If it is dirty or aerated, including waste water and slurries, then an Doppler Flow Meter works better
CHOOSING A FLOW METER
Temperature & Pressure
Flow Meters are made from a variety of materials. These will determine the minimum and maximum temperature and pressure that the Flow Meter can effectively operate in
Flow range
In each application there will be a difference between the minimum and maximum flow range and this will be significant in selecting the most appropriate Flow Meter
Accuracy
In some processes, a high degree of accuracy is required. So, measuring and monitoring needs to be very specific, with small changes in flow being recorded
CHOOSING A FLOW METER
Flow Meters have been designed to be relatively easy to install into existing processes with low level maintenance requirements
Many Flow Meters can be relatively easy to install without the need to shut down the whole process. This saves time, costs and prevents the need to stop critical processes
If your company are new to Flow Meters, or have to install them into less accessible locations, it may be advisable to invest in the services of a Micronics Installation Engineer
FLOW METER INSTALLATION
The Flow Meter needs to be positioned at an ideal point in the pipework. This will prevent issues such as air and the build-up of residue from having a negative impact on performance
Once installed, Flow Meters are low maintenance, but it is recommended that they are checked regularly and re-calibrated as required
In applications where they are exposed to more extreme conditions, such as high temperatures, excessive vibration or aggressive chemicals, these checks will need to occur more frequently
