Year 7 mathsw/c 8th June 2020

I hope you have all had an enjoyable week, enjoying the lovely weather we’ve had. How did you get on with your home

learning last week?

Work your way through these slides but remember to take breaks in between.

Pupil and parent learning sheetWeek beginning: 8th June 2020This week's work for year 7 maths is concentrating on fractions, decimals and percentages.By the end of this week, you should be able to: 1. Convert between decimals and percentages2. Convert between percentages and fractions3. Convert between fractions and decimals

Your work this week will include the following activities:

A choice of bronze, silver, gold or diamond questions on each topic.A codebreaker to bring together all of the work.An extension activity on converting between fractions and recurring decimals.

If you complete all your work to a high standard, you may also want to…Create a revision poster on the topics covered that will help others revise these topics. If you are particularly proud of your creation then e-mail it to learningfromhome@ipsleyacademy.co.uk. Also keep it safe as Mrs Shirley wants to make a display of your fabulous ‘lock-down work’.

For extra help with maths learning, you may also want to look at the following: Videos 121 – 129 at https://corbettmaths.com/contents/

You DO NOT need to print any of this work off to complete.

Recap!To convert a percentage to a decimal:

Divide the percentage by 100

An example: change 45% to a decimal45 ÷ 100 = 0.45

So the answer is 0.45

To convert a decimal to a percentage:

Multiply the decimal by 100

An example: change 0.35 to a percentage0.35 × 100 = 35

So the answer is 35%

Recap!

To convert percentages into fractions:

• Remember percentages are always “out of 100”

• So you need to write the percentage as the numerator, with 100 as the denominator

An example: Write 45% as a fraction

• Remember, the percentage becomes the numerator on your fraction

• 100 will be the denominator

So the answer is 45

100

Which simplifies to 9

25

Recap!

To convert a fraction into a percentage:

• You first need to use your equivalent fraction knowledge to make equivalent fractions that have 100 as the denominator

• Once you have a fraction with 100 as the denominator, the numerator is the percentage

An example: change 7

25into a percentage

7

25=

14

50=

28

100

28

100has 100 as the denominator, so the numerator is the percentage

So the answer is 28%

Recap!To convert a decimal to a fraction:

• You need to use your knowledge of place value

• The digits in the decimal will become the numerator, which place column value these digits fall into will be the denominator

An example: Change 0.45 into a fraction

4

10+

5

100=

40

100+

𝟏𝟎𝟎

0 . 4 5

Recap!To convert a fraction to a decimal:

• The line in a fraction means divide, so 2

5means 2 ÷ 5

• We then need to use short division to find the answer

An example: change 4

5to a decimal

• So we need to do 4 ÷ 5

• We also add a decimal point and some zeros after the 4 to help us create the decimal

• So the answer is 0.8

5 4 . 0 0 0

0 . 8 0 04
