Tools you can use to see and share project impact

Charis Hughes & Rachel Ryan Léargas Mary Immaculate College @leargas_charis @EnquiringClass

www.leargas.ie @leargas

There is no ‘best’ tool or method to see and share your impact. Think about what will work for you. Take what you like and leave the rest!

www.leargas.ie @leargas

The resources you put into the

project

The actions you take to reach your project

goals

The tangible experiences or products the

project creates

The immediate effects of those experiences or

products

The fundamental changes you

make happen

INPUT ACTIVITY OUTPUT OUTCOMES IMPACTS

www.leargas.ie @leargas

• Advocacy – ‘make the case’ for your project

• Analysis – find out what is working • Accountability – to funders, wider

organisation, supporters • Allocation – decide what areas to

fund/support in future

www.leargas.ie @leargas

• Raise awareness – let others know what you are doing

• Inform – educate the community • Engage – get input/feedback from

the community • Boost – ‘sell’ your outputs and results

Be specific: Who will gather the evidence? When? How?

Ask yourself: Who sees the change first?

Be Practical: If you have four participants, record a discussion

rather than emailing a survey

have a data collector: the person and/or system responsible for gathering the

Due Diligence Is the name you choose

available? In all the platforms you intend to use?

Try variations (common spelling mistakes, re-order the words etc) to avoid any confusion.

Top Tip Use namechk.com to check name availability across domain names and social media channels. Check out these list of 7 domain names guidelines. https://www.hover.com/blog/7-domain-name-mistakes/

Branding your project Branding does not have to cost to earth,

just some time. Creating a logo can be done with some

simple free tools. Decide on a font and writing style that

will work for all public information on the project. This will show a united front across all the dissemination material.

Logo design tools https://websitesetup.org/15-best-online-logo-generators/ https://logomakr. com – very easy to use, can get a free low-res version or a hi-res version for $19

Writing for clarity Picture your audience: give them a

name, age, location Will they understand what you say? Avoid acronyms, jargon, passive

voice Try the ‘pyramid structure’

Writing Help http://www.heming wayapp.com/ Rates the complexity of your text; aim for a 6-10 to reach a general audience www.grammarly. com

“The Erasmus+ programme has seen participation from thousands of young people throughout Ireland since its inception in 2014.

Participants in youth exchanges have seen their confidence increase and feel empowered by learning the skills to express their feelings about social issues facing them, such as identity, migration and social isolation.” (Hemingway Readability grade: 14)

“Erasmus+ youth exchanges empower young people.

Taking part increases their confidence. They learn to express how they feel about important issues like identity, migration and social isolation.

Erasmus+ started in 2014. Since then, thousands of young people from all over Ireland have gone on youth exchanges.” (Hemingway Readability grade: 7)

According to DesignBuddy.com: 95% of the top brands in the world only use 1 or 2

colours in their logos 93% of logos are simple enough to be

recognizable at smaller sizes 67% of the logos have a more horizontal aspect

ratio 41% of the logos use text only (stylized type)

Make sure your logo works in black and white too!

www.leargas.ie @leargas

Logos can easily become distorted when imported/resized

Drag the boundary box from the corner and hold the shift key to keep proportion

www.leargas.ie @leargas

Lots of choice but choose wisely Research where your target audience

lives online. What resources do you have to build/

maintain your digital and offline platforms?

(Time, content writing skills, photos, images, videos, content response skills etc.)

Is social media the right option? Don’t forget about email marketing!

Top Tip Create a content calendar to match your project activities and milestones. This ensures that each platform gets regular attention and a consistent message can be seen from the end user POV.

newsletter, download some resources from our website etc.

A must for any project, this is where you can take full ownership of the project content and resources, a

place where you can direct people to that is nor restricted with a character

limit. Ensure your own institutions link to this website also.

Piggyback on any promotion work being completely by the conference/event

organisers. Ensure your website name is in the blurb, use a call to action such as

for more information please visit. Ask for a follow back, post a picture getting ready

for the event and use the conference hashtag.

Ensure there is always a call to action for the reader/listener. Be clear on the goal by

completing these opportunities.

Collecting email address using GDPR compliant methods is a fantastic way to

communicate effectively with those most interested.
