• Zustände oder Erkrankungen, wie z.B. Schwangerschaft, Krebserkrankungen, HIV, Systemischer Lupus erythematodes und vor allemInfektionen aller Art
• Medizinische Prozeduren wie chirurgische Eingriffe oder Transplantationen
• Medikamente, insbesondere Chemotherapeutika, Östrogene, CyA, Clopidogrel, Ticlopidin etc.
In der Mehrzahl der Fälle kann kein Trigger sichereruiert werden.

Zusammenfassung
• Die TMA ist ein syndromales Krankheitsbild mit mehreren Differentialdiagnosen
• TTP und STEC-HUS können relativ einfach diagnostiziert werden (Bestimmung der ADAMTS13, Verotoxinbestimmung im Stuhl)
• Die Diagnose aHUS ist komplexer und bedingt vor allem eine klinische TMA mit ausgeschlossener TTP und STEC-HUS.
• Beim aHUS besteht eine Prädisposition zur überschiessenden Aktivierung des Komplementsystems, die über diverse Trigger ausgelöst werden kann.
• Für die TTP (Steroide, PEX, Rituximab, Caplacizumab) und das aHUS(Eculizumab) gibt es aktuell sehr gute Behandlungsoptionen, das STEC-HUS wird zumeist lediglich symptomatisch behandelt
