OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark
The splendor of the natural world and wonder of the supernatural ever convince us of being more than complimentary to each other and the fulfillment of both are one. We come to this realization and the life energy it provides and seek to express this union with meaningful and uplifting signs, symbols and analogies. The joy of Spring reawakening the earth from its winter sleep is surpassed in joy by Easter truth! We rejoice in what is beyond comprehension and trust our acceptance and thanksgiving will be lived meaningfully and sincerely. The joys of spring readily relate to Easter life. The Scriptures are but one of many human efforts to record the magnificence and glory of the transcendence of God. If there Is to be faith-living, it must reflect on the splendors of nature and the awesomeness of the universe connecting these wondrous expressions of beauty and life with the immense treasure of God’s love. It is beyond knowing or imaging, but not beyond accepting and appreciating, faith’s foundation. We can all give correct answers to the vital questions of the Catechism. Sadly, we can do that minus faith. Knowing the answer is not the same as believing what it means and requires. St. Peter ( 1st reading) gives us an overview concluding true belief brings forgiveness and life renewed. St Paul (2nd reading) delves deeper. The risen Lord means our meaning is now of “what is above and not of what is on earth.” Our life centers on living as Jesus taught us. More clearly, Paul uses yeast as a teaching tool. Yeast leavens the dough. “Our former life (old yeast) was of malice and sin; we celebrate Easter with the new yeast and life of sincerity and truth.” The Easter stories all energize faith, hope and love, replacing sadness, fear and loss of hope. When Mary of Magdala tells us the tomb is empty, like Peter and John, we look, but do not understand. Only later, for them and us, does Jesus bring us to what it means, so beautifully and dramatically expressed in Jesus encounter with the disheartened disciples returning to Emmaus, Jesus explains the Scriptures to them. At table, they are inspirited recognizing Him “in the breaking of the bread (Eucharist). This truth should be experienced and renewed, for each of us, whenever we gather round the Lord’s table. Such is true faith: we are one with God and each other by our willingness to live God’s truth and share God’s love!
A blessed and peace-filled Easter to all of you!

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY There is a prayer service for Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7th, after the 11:00 am Mass. We will pray the chaplet and venerate the picture of Jesus. We will have a reception after the chaplet in the Parish Office. Join us!
The Easter event changed Jesus and the women who were the first to see him. It changed
the disciples and it can change us if we allow it. To be open to change is to be open to the
unexpected. The reality of resurrected life that embraces God’s life sets us free from
human limitations. WE joyfully celebrate this great moment in faith. (1st Reading: Acts
10:34a, 37-43; 2nd Reading: Colossians 3:1-4; Gospel: John 20:1-9)
Archbishop Samuel Aquila joins Fathers Hugh Guentner, Mark Franceschini, Gabriel
Ramacciotti, Gabriel Weber and our parish pastoral and support staff in wishing you and
your loved ones a Holy Easter. May our risen Lord bestow His abundant blessing upon
you and your loved ones. Padre Ugo
A small container of Holy Water is available for the:
EASTER BLESSING OF HOMES
The head of the home conducts this blessing in the presence of the family by reciting:
BLESSING
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Peace to this home and all who dwell here.
Lord, we rejoice in the victory of your Son over death;
by rising from the tomb to new life He gives us new hope and promise.
Bless all the members of this house hold and surround them with your protection,
may they find comfort and peace in Jesus Christ, the Paschal Lamb,
Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The head of the house may sprinkle those present and the home with holy water, during the
sprinkling the head of house may say:
Let this water call to mind our Baptism in Christ,
Who by His death and Resurrection has redeemed us.
The head of the house concludes the rite by signing himself or herself with the Sign of the
Cross and saying: May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm, and make
us one in mind and heart, now and for ever. Amen
DESOLATA Thank you to all who attended the Desolata Service. In a special way we are grateful to the choir and St. Margaret Thomas, O.P. for her inspiring reflections. It was a beautiful service. PASTORAL COUNCIL 1. We met with a representative from the Planning & Zoning from the City of Denver. During our discussions we heard about the changes in the neighborhood and what it means to our Church. We have decided to start a Future Planning Committee. 2. A TV spot was launched in the Denver area promoting Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Church. The spot will be on our website for parishioners to view. 3. We have been working on our by-laws. They are a work in progress.
Lord We Pray: May the faithful grow in understanding and love
of the calls to marriage and the single life, realizing the vital
role these vocations play in the work of the new evangelization.
