Care A Gram
December 2016
Announcing Alzheimer’s Community Care’s
20th Annual Educational Conference!
“20 Years: Advancing the Mission for Patients and Caregivers” is the theme of our 20th Annual
Educational Conference to be held on Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17, 2017 at the
Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach.
Each day of the Conference is unique, and our speakers will cover a wide range of topics and issues important
to our families.
On Thursday we begin with a “sit-down” breakfast. After breakfast, you will have 30 minutes to explore the
Exhibit Hall and meet with exhibitors providing services you may need. At 9:40am we will present a choice of
six breakout sessions. These sessions will be presented twice, back to back, so you will get the chance to
experience two of the following presentations.
Thursday’s breakout sessions include:
Long Term Care Asset Protection Planning – 2017 Version Scott Solkoff Esq.
New Thinking in Causes and Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease David Vastola DO
Using One’s Social History to Improve Quality of Life Today Scott Greenberg CAEd
& Tino Negri CAEd
Caring for the Caregiver Mark Todd PhD
Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach-Relationships Made Better Lesley Vestrich BS
Treatable Causes of Cognitive Dysfunction Paayal Patel MD
Another Exhibitor Showcase follows the breakout sessions. Lunch is served at noon, and after the meal, Dr.
Jacqueline Pevny, MD will present “Treating the Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of a Major
Neurocognitive Disorder”. Dr. Pevny is a Board-Certified Geriatric Psychiatrist and a passionate advocate for
the use of behavioral (versus medication) approaches to the behaviors often affecting our loved ones.
After another opportunity to visit our Exhibitors, Dr. Mark Brody, MD will present the afternoon’s final
program, “Treatment for Alzheimer’s ‘Inside and Outside the Box”. Dr. Brody is President and Founder of
Brain Matters Research, one of the largest private clinical research facilities in the country specializing in
Alzheimer’s Disease diagnosis, treatment and research. He is a nationally recognized expert in both Alzheimer’s
Disease and stroke, as well as the Principal Investigator in numerous clinical trials seeking to prevent and treat
Alzheimer’s disease.

Friday’s program begins with breakfast, followed by a presentation by Alzheimer’s Community Care and Conference Co-Chair and Board Member,
G. Mark Shalloway, Esq. Alzheimer’s Community Care has extensively studied the ways in which our Family Nurse Consultants help caregivers to
manage the stresses and burden of caregiving, and how active participation in our Specialized Day Centers helps our loved ones to maintain their
cognitive and physical abilities for as long as possible. We will share how we are able to measure and analyze these approaches, and how we continu-
ally strive for the best possible outcomes.
After Friday morning’s Exhibitor Showcase, breakout sessions, again delivered twice, include:
Social Security – Past, Present and Future Joe Eppy BS
& Craig Eppy BS
Protecting Your Loved One: Caregiver Background Checks Irv Seldin JD, MA
Hospital Induced Delirium Prevention in People with Dementia Michelle Kunz MBA
Should You Consider a Clinical Trial? James Goldenberg MD
The Five Wishes: Planning for Future Health Care Decisions Deborah Totten MS
How to Find a Healthcare Provider to Best Suit Your Needs Mitchell Perelman MD
After lunch, Dr. Sathya Puthanveettil, PhD of Scripps Research Institute, Florida, will present
“In Search of Therapeutics for Alzheimer’s Disease”, informing us of the latest theories and therapeutics for addressing memory problems.
Following the Conference’s final Exhibitor Showcase, our Keynote Speaker, Dr. James Galvin MD will present “The Dementia Prevention
Initiative: A Personalized Approach to Reducing Risk of Dementia”. Coming to Florida from New York University in 2015, Dr. Galvin now
serves as Professor of Integrated Medical Sciences and Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida
Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Dr. Galvin is an internationally recognized expert on Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body disease, and other causes of

Noisemaker New Year’s Craft
Supplies:
2 plastic disposable tumblers
colored electrical or craft tape
Things to fill shaker (I used pony beads and wood beads. Other suggestions: beans, rice, popcorn kernels, jingle bells, small stones) paint and paintbrush, or other decorations for outside of the shaker
Directions:
1. Begin this New Year's craft by filling up one of the plastic glasses with things that make noise. I used pony beads and wood beads, but other suggestions are beans, rice, popcorn kernels, jingle bells, or small stones. Place the other tumbler on top of the first one to enclose the shaker.
2. Next, secure the glasses together by wrapping the edges together with the colored electrical or craft tape. Press down well.
3. Now it is time to decorate the outside of the party shaker. Use paints and a paintbrush to add designs like I did, or try stickers!
4. Enjoy the midnight countdown!
