“Excess speed and thelack of safety belts weredefinitely factors in theaccident,” said Fond duLac County Sheriff MickFink. “We don’t believethat alcohol was a factor atthis point.”

Three of the occupantswere wearing their safetybelts, four were not wear-ing safety belts and it isunknown yet if two of thepassengers were wearingtheirs or not.

Fink took the opportunityto remind people theimportance of safety belts.“We (Fond du Lac County)had four fatalities thisweekend and it looks likethree out of four wouldhave survived had theyhad their seat belts on,” hesaid. “I talk about safetybelt use all the time.”

As part of standard pro-cedure in a fatal crash, ablood draw was done onthe driver and the threedeceased. Results shouldbe back in about 10 days,but Fink stressed that theydo not believe that alcoholor drugs were a factor inthis crash.

Beechnut Road has ahill that leads down to aflat spot where the railroadtracks used to cross theroad and now is a recre-ational trail. Right after the

trail is another small hill.Rick Olig of the sheriff’sdepartment, stated thatthey believe the vehicletraveled at a high rate ofspeed down the first hilland across the trail andstarted to go up the sec-ond hill.

“As it did that, the driverlost control,” Olig said.

He stated the vehicletraveled about 700 feetbefore coming to rest in aplowed field. “They hadtraveled quite a ways at anangle,” Olig said.

The sheriff’s departmenthas been talking withOttery, who was the driverof the vehicle. Fink statedthat she has been verycooperative with the sher-iff’s department and hasgiven them a lot of infor-mation about the eventsleading up to and after theaccident.

When asked if she willbe charged in the acci-dent, Fink was not sure.He said they are investi-gating the details of thecrash and will forward theirinformation to the Fond duLac County DistrictAttorney.

“That will then be some-thing the district attorneywill need to determine,”Fink said.

The community and the

school district continues totry to cope with this tragicevent. Classes resumedon Monday atCampbellsport HighSchool, but counselors willbe on hand all week tohelp students and staffdeal with this tragedy.

A visitation for all threegirls will be held in the gymat Campbellsport HighSchool on Thursday, Feb.9, from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.Individual funeral serviceswill be held for all threethroughout the day onFriday.

Hundreds of Campbellsport High School students, area residents and students from other schools gathered atin the courtyard at the school for a candlelight vigil in honor of the girls who were killed and injured in an automo-bile accident in the early morning hours on Saturday, Feb. 4. Caitlin Scannell, Katie Berg and Sabrina Stahl werekilled in the accident and Allie Adams, Jessica Harbin, Kassandra Anderson, Theresa Flood, Haley Fricke and CarlyOttery were injured in the accident.
