Montgomery McFate
Introduction Montgomery McFate is a cultural anthropologist who currently serves
as Minerva Chair for the Center for Naval Warfare Studies. Montgomery McFate donates to support the Newport, Rhode Island’s Save the Bay foundation. More than just a charity, Save the Bay offers three bay adventure tours, with the proceeds locally funding Narragansett Bay education.
1. Lighthouse Tours
Departing from both Providence and Newport, the lighthouse tours from Save the Bay are the only tours on Narragansett Bay allowing tourists to go inside of the lighthouses. Save the Bay provides guests with binoculars so they can explore the varied coastlines from the height of these rare structures. Available tours range in time from the 90-minute Province Sunset Lighthouse Cruise to the 7-hour Ultimate Lighthouse Tour.
Save the Bay 2. Prudence Island Tours
Prudence Island sits in the middle of Narragansett Bay. Departing from Newport, this tour offers guests the option to take a guided hike provided by the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, or the more adventuresome can explore the island on their own.
3. Marine Science Excursions
Also departing from Newport, the marine science excursions offer an educational experience where guests learn about measuring water quality, catching plankton and trawling the bay. Afterward, guests are treated to touch tanks where they’ll get a hands-on encounter with some of the bay’s wildlife.
