GhettoGhetto

My parents moved from Bakersfield, CA to East LA.

A city that is considered a “ghetto” because minorities settle here. Mexicans being the main minority.

A lot of Mexican influence

You can find Catholic (main religion in Mexico) churches, Mexican restaurants, many Mexican monuments in every corner

Many people offer services that will help Mexicans adjust to life in the United States

Immigrants LadderImmigrants LadderFirst lived in Bakersfield, CA

Then moved to East LA for better job opportunities

Then moved to Norwalk because East LA had a lot of gang activity and drug activity, it was not safe. The LA Riots were the main reason they decided to move out.

We then moved from Norwalk, CA to Mira Loma, Ca because Norwalk was starting to fill with gang violence and there were better schools here. Mira Loma is a safer and nicer neighborhood.

Chain MigrationChain Migration

My family is the perfect example of a chain migration because my parents convinced some of my aunts and uncles to immigrate here to California.

My dad helped 4 of his brothers and 3 of his sisters cross the border and helped them settle in Los Angeles, CA

My mother helped her 3 brothers and 4 of her sisters cross the border. She was able to find them jobs and provided them with a place to live.
