PINs can be: Smart cards can be:

SharedObservedDeducted from the keypad

CopiedGiven to another personStolenLost

Should I use them at all?Yes! When:• The number of employees is fairly small (<10)• The value of the protected assets / time is also low• When you want to keep your budget to the minimum• There no special requirements to the security of credentials

In other cases, biometrics is just right for you

Facts AboutTime & Attendance

19.08.2016 GP SYSTEMS GMBH 3

19% of surveyed employees admitted toclock in for their colleagues

60% of the companies admitted that theiremployees don’t report time correctly

This leads toLost productivity | Excessive staffing | High cost replacement workers

4.5 hours/week are on average lost due to time theft

Amounting to 1.2 M EUR in a company of 200 employees

Biometric Challenge

19.08.2016 GP SYSTEMS GMBH 4

Our target was:- Large number of people (>500) clocking in- Fast identification (1:many)- Convenient to use- Durable and reasonably compact housing- Almost all employees have to be enrolled- Accurate identification

We tried all biometric technologies to satisfy all the requirements

Along the way we found that:

1. People of certain age are hard to identify2. Some people have physical characteristics making recognition more difficult3. People working in the kitchens or doing manual jobs are the “tough” group for biometrics

Putting it all together, we came up with a system, that is:• Modular. You can select only the modules and technologies you need.• Scalable. The system grows up with your needs. From several devices to a large-scale installation(s).• Flexible. Palm veins/fingerprint recognition, proximity/smart cards, PINs. All technologies in one system.• IP-based. Communication is over the network. Recognition is on each device. Convenient and stable.• Server-based. One maintenance point. Easy to add new workplaces for enrollment and for reporting.

Based on identification of veins located under the skin of your palm, it

allows identification with FAR (false acceptance rate) as low as

0,00008%, FRR (false rejection rate) of 0,01% and low FTE (failure-to-

enroll) with speed of less than 2 seconds for 1:1000 matching.

The highlights of the technology are:

• Extremely accurate and secure

• Forging is next to impossible

• Non-invasive method

• Works with wet, dirty, scarred/injured hands

• Well-suited for dry climates and people of any age

All the biometric templates in the BioSmart

system are stored centrally on the main server,

making it one point for backup and maintenance.

Every device can be installed in a remote location

with network connection required only to:

• Transfer templates

• Upload identification and alarm events

• Remotely update firmware

A copy of the biometric template is stored on the device(s), according to the access zone rules.

Matching is done locally. Absent network connection does not impact operation of the devices.
