Solar Eclipse It takes place during new moon when the moon is between the earth and the sun.

The moon casts a shadow on the earth when its position lies in the same plane between the earth and the sun.

Total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely blocks the view of the sun.

Partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks only a part of the sun.

Solar eclipse is not safe to observe directly with the naked eyes because it can harm the eyes resulting to blindness.

Lunar EclipseLunar eclipse happens when the moon darkens as it passes through the earth’s shadow.Lunar eclipse occurs during full moon when the earth is between the sun and the moon.

Lunar eclipse can be total or partial. In total lunar eclipse, the entire moon passes through the earth’s shadow while in partial lunar eclipse only part of the moon passes through the earth’s shadow.
