DESCRIPTION

Software-defined datacenter is hitting the headlines but what is it and what does it mean for your datacenter? Our experts will discuss how convergence of the IT infrastructure with datacenter facilities, the IT service model, and the IT organization will enable this future state. We’ll describe the approach you can take to transition to a converged datacenter that’s ready for tomorrow’s software-enabled, hybrid IT environment.

What is a “Converged Data Center” ?

Enables the converged cloud and hybrid delivery model for IT

• Combines Facilities, IT infrastructure, Operations and the Delivery

Models

• Software defined

• Modular, highly flexible

• Green & highly sustainable

• Self regulating, totally secure, resilient

• Highly efficient, workload optimised converged systems

• Converged management across facilities, IT infrastructure and

operations

• Business and IT will be completely aligned.

Scope of the Converged Data Center

Converged Data Center

Components

Converged Data Center & SDDC

Converged Data Center encompasses the principles of Software Defined Data Center, but goes

much further in its scope, building on converged infrastructure and including additional elements

which recognise the fact that the IT infrastructure does not exist in isolation and if addressed will

increase the likelihood of a successful solution.

IDC Survey – Business Value of Convergence Methodology

Survey to evaluate the business value increase that enterprises achieve as they advance

their convergence maturity.

• “Work”: Throughput the data center

pushes through - by assessing the network

capacity to / from the data center.

• “Converged-ness”: The percentage of the

data center resources that administrators can

deploy from a pooled collection.

• “Cost”: Annual budget for equipment

hardware, infrastructure software and

IT infrastructure administration staff.

• Results are presented in three categories:

• IT labor costs per GB throughput –

total data center throughput divided

by the IT labor to manage all data center

operations

• Mean time to deploy new services

such as a new application

• Infrastructure and application availability
