South East Conference2010-2011 College FootballSeason Preview

Alabama Crimson TideChallenge: DefenseThe Tide lost a number of key contributors from their number 2 ranked defense. Talented recruits need to step up.

Watchlist: Mark IngramLast year's Heisman trophy winner gets a second shot with basically the same o-line.

Betting Rating: SellToo much hype and talent around this team to bet on them. They are +100 to win the SEC. If their defense struggles, bet against them.

Arkansas RazorbacksChallenge: DefenseFor this team to compete, the defense that gave up over 400 yards per game last year has to step up and they didn't add many defensive recruits.

Watchlist: Ryan MallettMallett had 3,627 yards and 30 TDs passing last season, but only 55% completion rate.

Betting Rating: HoldThe Razorbacks won't surprise anyone on offense or defense. They are +800 to win the SEC because their d. can't compete.

Auburn TigersChallenge: QuarterbackIt looks like Cameron Newton has won the starting job, but he still has a lot to prove.

Watchlist: Onterrio McCalebbMcCalebb had 600 yards last year playing behind Ben Tate. He's ready for prime-time.

Betting Rating: BuyIt's risky with an unproven quarterback, but their running should be better than anyone expects. They are +500 to win the SEC.

Florida GatorsKey Challenge: DefenseA lot of turnover on defense and a new coordinator.

Watchlist: John BrantleyThe Gators send a traditional pocket passer to replace Tebow at QB.

Betting Rating: BuyThe turnover on this team should scare bettors away, but Urban Meyer always has the best recruits and is an excellent coach. They are +250 to win the SEC.

Georgia BulldogsKey Challenge: Switch to 3-4The Bulldogs' defense left much to be desired last season. At least they can't get much worse.

Watchlist: A.J. GreeneThe only consistent performer left on the Bulldogs offense. Competition at QB means they should find someone who can get him the ball.

Betting Rating: BuyHeavy competition at QB and RB means this team should be better than most teams that lose so many good players while switching systems.

Kentucky WildcatsKey Challenge: DefenseThe Wildcats lost a lot of players on defense and they even lost a planned replacement

Watchlist: Randall CobbHe's not just the leading receiver, but he gets yards running out of the shotgun.

Betting Rating: BuyThey are not getting much respect at +3000 and their offense is good enough to carry them to a few covers.

LSU TigersKey Challenge: O-LineThe o-line was too small and inexperienced last season. This season, they'll just be too small.

Watchlist: Kelvin SheppardHe led the Tigers defense with 110 tackles last season. Don't be surprise to see him do it again.

Betting Rating: BuyOne of the best defenses and an excellent recruiting class give this team excellent potential to surprise.

Mississippi State BulldogsKey Challenge: ScoringThe Bulldogs lost their only real play-maker and don't have a clear-cut number one QB.

Watchlist: Pernell McpheeMcphee led the team in sacks last season and, with most of the defense intact, should be a menace to quarterbacks all season.

Betting Rating: BuyBut only if you're betting under. Their offense will be painful to watch, but the defense should inflict some pain.

Ole Miss RebelsKey Challenge: QuarterbackIf Nathan Stanley doesn't work out at QB, the Rebels have little in the way of alternatives.

Watchlist: Pass RushSimply put, the Ole Miss front-four and linebacking corps will make the secondary look good with all of the pressure they put on QBs.

Betting Rating: HoldTheir defense will be excellent except for a few game-breaking plays. This inconsistency makes them a hold.

South Carolina GamecocksKey Challenge: O-LineLast in rushing and sacks for 3-straight years, the new o-line coach can only help.

Watchlist: Stephen GarciaGarcia threw for 2,862 yards and 17 touchdowns with an o-line made of cardboard cutouts. Imagine if they give him some time.

Betting Rating: BuyThey have a talented defense and even a slight improvement on the o-line will greatly improve the offense.

Tennessee VolunteersKey Challenge: TurmoilLane Kiffin left and some key players may not be returning. The new coach should help the program in the long run.

Watchlist: Tyler BrayThe 6'6 freshman QB looks to have stolen the starting job. As he matures, he will be very dangerous.

Betting Rating: SellThey have a lot of talent left on the team, but they need a coach to stay for more than a year.

Vanderbilt CommodoresKey Challenge: PassingThe Commodores were 119th in passing efficiency last season and haven't done anything to address the problem.

Watchlist: Warren NormanNorman averaged 5.5 yards per carry despite everyone knowing Vandy had no legitimate passing option.

Betting Rating: HoldThe Commodores can't pass and can't stop the run. Watch for some value later in the season.
