2. To begin with we need our apple peeled. This involves possibly a peeler but definitely a knife. If

you’re child/youth then please ask for help. And BE CAREFUL. Once you have peeled the apple chop

it into nice thin slices. Being even more careful than when you peeled it. And don’t ever cut towards

yourself. You’ve been warned about that now too!

3. Place the slices of apple into a small ovenproof dish (the ramekin if using). The one I used is the

size of a large mug. Don’t actually use a mug as they’re not ovenproof. Then sprinkle the apples with

sugar until they have a nice coating. Obviously it’ll be sweeter if you use more.

4. Add two tablespoons full of water. Just pour it on top!

5. Right, now for the messy/dangerous bit. Time to make the crumble. In a small bowl add the

sugar, margarine and flour. Now you have two choices. Either 1) Rub together the ingredients. Using

your thumb and forefinger literally pick up a few pinches and roll your fingers over each other. You

end up with breadcrumb like bits of crumble. 2) Put everything in a food mixer and give it a few

blasts. Don’t go mad, just enough to mix it up. It should be lumpy like mini oats. See the pictures

below for an example.

6. That’s our crumble made so pour it on top of the apples.

7. You remember that the oven was busily heating itself up to 180⁰. Well in goes our little crumble

for 30mins. Of course remember to keep an eye on it. This time is a rough guide I don’t want you

burning the house down. Or worse still, the crumble!

8. When the crumble looks a nice golden brown colour, remove from the oven using a pair of oven

gloves. It’s going to be really hot. So let it cool a little before diving in! Either eat straight from the

ramekin or pop out onto a plate. Although it’s designed for one you could split it in half. It makes

two smaller portions. You can serve it on its own as the apples keep it moist, but the crumble is also

nice with a little cream or with lashings of custard. The choice is yours!

9. Enjoy!
