Question 1: DigipakIn what ways does your media product

use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To evaluate the extent to which I used or challenged codes and conventions of pop digipaks, I will compare my findings and my digipak

2/3 featured direct address (only one did so on the cover)

So as to reflect the genre characteristics I used some direct address within the digipak, on the inside panels, however we wanted to use the cover to exhibit a more serene approach and instead shows the artist looking off into the distance on the covers.

3/3 used a brightly coloured disk

We used a brightly coloured disk panel so as to attract the attention of the audience to this panel as the most important part of the digipak, the disk itself is also bright and eye-catching with the image of the daisy.

3/3 used minimal text on the front cover

We avoided too much text on the front cover in the way that the products in my research did, other than the artist's name and the album name. We felt as though this was the only necessary information for the front cover so as to this reinforce the artist and her work in the audiences mind.

2/3 used text on the disk (album title)

I took the approach of not using text on the disk and instead using a picture relevant to the artist, and connecting to the other products. This is similar to Katy Perry’s digipak, and this ties the products into one and make it recognisable as the work of our artist.

2/3 used the same font throughout

We used the same text throughout because there are no subtitles or large bodies of text. As a result it was not necessary to use different fonts as all the texts are titles and need to stand out against the images used. The only difference seen is of the artist’s signature and the fine print on the back cover. The font used for this was straighter and more basic so as to allowed the audience to read it in a small font.

3/3 remained within their theme (sweets, grey scale and green, and pink, blue and nudes)

I strayed away from the convention of a completely thematic digipak, as the digipaks I researched were of established artists who are well known within the industry. As a result these artists can afford to stick to one theme, however our artist is new to the music industry, and therefore we want to establish the artist as having more than one side to her, hence a serene representation to contrast to the fun tone we gave the music video.
