Music player and Speakers

A main prop that we as a group decided to use in our music video are speakers and the music player that are evident in our music video as the girl will have to play the music before she performs her ballet dance in the music video. When the girl presses the music player, the song that we have chosen, (Youth by Daughter) will be played. By doing so, this highlights the fact that she is dancing to this song as it resembles the dark side of her life, as well as creates a sense of realism to the music video.

Ballet OutfitThe Ballet outfit of the protagonist in this music video is the most vital prop needed in our music video as it enables the audience to identify the fact that this girl is a ballet dancer that is auditioning for a show. The colour of her ballet outfit is purple which highlights the young girls innocence and purity, which is contrasted later on in the music video to the side in which she consumes alcohol and drugs. The colour purple usually symbolises mystery, so therefore the fact that her outfit is purple will attract the audience in wondering what may really be happening in this girls life. The girl will be wearing Pointe's (ballet shoes) which will enable her to dance and pose on her pointy feet in order to make it seem very professional and in order to resemble professional music videos.

The girls hand bag

Although a hand bag seems like such a quintessential and normal thing for a girl to carry around, the girls hand bag in this music video has a lot of significance as she carries it around everywhere she goes. The hand bag has to things; her ballet outfit and her drugs. This emphasises on the fact that although she tries to separate her two different lives, they are unwillingly integrated as they always catch up with her. We have made sure the girl wears the same hand bag in all the scenes in order to highlight the two things needed that she always carries together. The girl will be wearing a normal black bag and she will put it down as she performs her ballet performance.

Chairs

One of the props we have added in our music table is a chair for the judge to sit on to watch the girls performance as well as the chairs in the waiting area were the girl and the other ballerina are getting changed.

Alcohol bottles and drugs

In one of the scenes in the girls house the girl has set out bottles of alcohol on her bed side table and her drugs and cigarettes. We have done so in order to highlight to the audience what her everyday lifestyle is usually like. In addition, the fact that there is a lot of alcohol and drugs in her room portrays the fact that she is an addict and this may be due to an underlying reason.

Mobile phone

The use of the mobile phone that we will add in our music video is a prominent prop in our music video as in the scene at the girls house, she will receive a phone call in which she has saved the person on the receiving line of the phone as ‘do not answer’. The use of this is to trigger the curiosity of the audience and wonder why she has saved that person in that name and why she is not answering. In addition to this, when she answers the phone she will start crying which may therefore indicate to the audience that she is depressed due to something that has happened with the person that's on the phone.

Make-up

Make-up was vital in depicting the contrast between the girl as a ballerina and the girl taking drugs. For example, we will use light colours and bright eye shadow when filming the girl in the dance studio. However, when we film the girl taking drugs and looking depressed at home, we will use dark make-up including black eye shadow and then smudge it when she is crying. This enables the audience to know how thee girl feels and the effect her life has on her.

Dance pole in studio

The pole in the dance studio enables the girl to perform her ballet on it as well as giving her the physique to hold her self well. In addition, it makes the dances look more professional.

Bed side and dressing table

The bed side table enabled us to set out the rest of the props (alcohol bottles and drugs) to clearly make them visible in our music video. In addition, the dressing table is used to add realism to her bedroom as well as making the girl look into the mirror of the dressing table as she wonders and stares at herself in sorrow and anger.
