Emergency Medicine at North Shore-LIJ

Treating and stabilizing patients in crisis is essential to the high quality care we deliver throughout our system. With over 650,000 emergency room visits and admissions each year, our Emergency Nurses are at the very heart of that care.

Regardless of the environment, as an Emergency Nurse with North Shore-LIJ, you will be offered a wide range of experience and opportunities to enhance your professional expertise, critical thinking and clinical skills.

Emergency Medicine Department Locations and Details:

Cohen Children’s Medical Center | New Hyde Park, NY An academic tertiary care center and Regional Pediatric Trauma Center, the Emergency Department at Cohen Children’s Medical Center is staffed by physicians who are specialty trained in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and nurses with focused training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Cohen Children’s Medical Center has 202 beds and sees over 60,000 patients annually in its pediatric ED.

Forest Hills Hospital | Forest Hills, NY The ED is a full service Emergency Department, an AHA-certified Heart Station and a state-designated Stroke Center. Forest Hills Hospital has 222 beds and an annual ED patient volume of nearly 50,000.

Franklin Hospital | Valley Stream, NY A state-designated Stroke Center, the Emergency Department provides advanced programs to ensure state-of-the-art care for virtually any illness or injury. Franklin Hospital has 305 beds and over 42,000 ED visits.

Glen Cove Hospital | Glen Cove, NY Glen Cove Hospital is a full service Emergency Department, as well as a NYS-certified Stroke Center. Glen Cove Hospital is a 265-bed hospital that provides excellent care to over 20,000 Emergency Department patients annually.

Huntington Hospital | Huntington, NY The Emergency Department at Huntington Hospital is one of just a few in the area that offers emergency Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) techniques for treating heart attacks and is a state-designated Stroke Center. Huntington Hospital is a 408-bed hospital and receives nearly 50,000 emergency visits annually.

Lenox Hill Hospital | Manhattan, NY An academic tertiary care center, the Emergency Department of this upper-east side hospital is a state-designated Stroke Center and Level II Trauma Center. Lenox Hill Hospital is a 652-bed facility seeing over 56,000 emergency patients annually.

LIJ Medical Center | New Hyde Park, NY The clinical and academic hub of North Shore-LIJ Health System, LIJ Medical Center is a teaching hospital and designated tertiary care center. The Emergency Department is a state-designated Stroke Center and takes care of the most complicated cases, as well as routine emergency and urgent care patients. LIJ is a 473-bed tertiary care teaching hospital with an annual volume of over 90,000 ED visits.

North Shore University Hospital | Manhasset, NY A teaching hospital and designated tertiary care center, the Emergency Medicine Department is a state-designated Stroke Center, and offers a separate Rapid Access Unit, a 24/7 PCI Center and a new Air Transport Program. North Shore University Hospital is an 812-bed tertiary academic medical center treating over 90,000 emergency patients annually.

Plainview Hospital | Plainview, NY The Emergency Department at Plainview Hospital is a state-designated Stroke Center and offers a 4-bed fast track unit. The hospital has 239 inpatient beds and treats over 33,000 emergency patients annually.

Southside Hospital | Bayshore, NY A state-designated Stroke Center, Southside Hospital is an ACS Level II Verified trauma center and offer emergency PCI techniques for treating heart attacks and is in the midst of constructing a new 76-bed ER. Southside Hospital is a 341-bed tertiary hospital located in Suffolk County that treats over 70,000 emergency patients a year.

Staten Island University Hospital | Staten Island, NY A teaching hospital and designated tertiary care medical center, Staten Island University Hospital has two campuses on the north and south shores of Staten Island. The Emergency Medicine Department is a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Level 1 Burn Center, a state-designated Stroke Center and a 911 Receiving Hospital. Staten Island University Hospital is a 714-bed, specialized teaching hospital with an annual ED patient volume of over 126,000.

Syosset Hospital | Syosset, NY A state-designated Stroke Center, Syosset Hospital is a 911 Receiving Hospital and the first and only facility in New York state to receive the distinguished J.D. Power award for an “Outstanding Emergency Department Experience” two years in a row. Syosset Hospital is a community hospital in Nassau County with an annual Emergency Department patient volume of over 16,000.

North Shore-LIJ’s Urgent Care Centers:

To complement the Emergency Medicine Department facilities at our hospitals, we operate Urgent Care Centers in Rego Park, Queens and Bethpage, Long Island. Our Urgent Care Centers are staffed by Emergency Medicine physicians who deliver immediate care to patients with non-emergency illnesses and injuries.

The Lenox Hill HealthPlex:

The Lenox Hill HealthPlex represents a bold new community-based model, consistent with our vision of transforming health care. Designed, staffed and equipped to accommodate up to 45,000 emergency visits annually, it will serve as a receiving facility for the New York City 911 Emergency Medical System, have 24/7 access to lab services and advanced radiology, and include ambulance service to transport patients to our nearby hospitals.
