Welcome to the IDS USA Pavilion

On behalf of all U.S. exhibitors, a warm welcome to the U.S. Pavilion

at IDS 2017! American companies consistently rank at the top of

the global dental marketplace. This year, the North American dental

industry is back in Cologne with virtually all major players and many

new-to-market companies underlining the strong confidence the industry

consistently places in the power event called “IDS Cologne.”

Attendees will have access to products from nearly 250 North American

suppliers who will show everything from Abrasives, Dental Materials,

Dental Chairs, Implants, Filling Materials, and Orthodontics to Lighting and

Laser Devices. This year, 142 exhibitors and co-exhibitors will display their

products in a record-setting three USA pavilions in halls 4.2, 2.2 and 5.1. Plus,

independent exhibitors in each of the five multi-level IDS halls.

The strong North American presence at IDS reflects a robust, international

demand for high quality and competitively priced products. The U.S. Pavilions

are organized by Chicago-based Koelnmesse, Inc. with the support of the

Dental Trade Alliance (DTA).

This popular restaurant is a favorite of residents looking

for well-prepared traditional German dishes. There’s a

full menu of delicacies, and the entrees are delicious

and filling. As usual, there’s a full drink menu. The

restaurant is a great choice after a day of touring the city.

This local brewery boasts a rustic atmosphere, with

plenty of TVs to keep sports fans happy. The pub’s

reasonably priced food is standard, filling

German fare. Brauhaus Ohne Namen is located

on the same side of the river as Koelnmesse

Fairground, away from the tourist areas.

Brauhaus Sion originally opened in 1318, but was

completely destroyed by aerial attacks during World

War II. Fortunately, the brewery was reconstructed

in 1951 and today, it serves up Kölsch beer and

typical Brauhaus grub. The Sion is particularly

known for traditional dishes like rievkooche, fried

roasted potatoes with applesauce, and sausages.

Located in the main shopping area of Cologne, this sushi

bar was the first of its kind in the city and continues to

be popular among the locals. Blue Marlin is dedicated to

sustainable practices, serving up only certified organic fish.

Be sure to sit at the sushi bar for the complete experience.

Relatively new restaurant, rather fancy, order your

burgers via iPad embedded in your table. Personal

favorite: Veggi burger in Brioche Bun!

The hotel, centrally located in the Fish Market on the banks

of the Rhine River, is one of the few buildings to survive

World War II. Today, the restaurant is one of the most

popular in the city for its traditional décor, great menu

and excellent wine list. It has a good selection of favorite

German meals, including a variety of meats and fish.

Housed in one of the oldest buildings on the Rhine,

this eatery is a good choice for a meal in a friendly and

casual environment. The menu features Cologne-style

dishes, including stews, potato waffles, the “old

town” filet steak as well as wild boar, goose, rabbit

or hare and more. The restaurant is central to the

Cologne Cathedral and the main train station.

One of the most renowned breweries in Cologne, Früh is a

beer hall-style eatery that offers regional entrees consisting

of meats and vegetables, and its version of Kölsch beer.

Locals say every visitor must eat at least one meal here

to get a flavor of the city. The brewery, conveniently

located near the Dom, also is a popular breakfast choice.

This is a brewery first and foremost — one that was first

opened in 1215 — and features the popular Gaffel brand

of Kölsch. Beer plays a key role in traditional German

dining, and this is an excellent place to take part in the

tradition. The historic building offers cozy indoor dining

spaces, a well as an attractive outdoor terrace. The menu

runs the gamut from salads to hearty meat dishes.

Tower) the Osman 30 off ers a spectacular panorama

of the city, including views of the Siebengebirge

(seven mountains) to the east of the Rhine. The

modern menu off ers refi ned Italian fare — three-

course meals are served in elegant luxury.

On Tuesdays, locals fl ock to Peters Brauhaus, located

in the heart of the city, for its potato pancakes. The

pancakes are made fresh and can be topped with

anything from apple compote to smoked salmon. This

brewery fi rst opened in 1554, and it serves up Kölsch

beer and generous portions of German comfort food.

Very good African food, nicely and colorful decorated. If

you want to try “something else” and fun. Food is served

in little portions and they off er good cocktails. Personal

favorite: just order the “big” meal for EUR 14.8 – you

can choose four dishes plus one side. I recommend

the “pab” (a traditional south-African corn puree)
