Innenstadt, Rodenkirchen, Lindenthal, Ehrenfeld, Nippes, Chorweiler, Porz, Kalk, Mühlheim

The Emblem of Cologne

The colours red and white mean that Cologne is a Hanse-City. That means Cologne is a big trade point. The three crowns are reminiscents of the Three Kings, whose bones are kept in Cologne Cathedral. The eleven black flames stand for the eleven thousand women of the story of Saint Ursula. You can read it here:

The Rhein

The Rhein is the reason that Cologne is a Hanse-City. The Rhein rises in Switzerland and ends in the Northsea. In Cologne seven bridges cross the Rhein. They are called:

Autobahnbridge, Südbridge, Severinsbridge, Deutzerbridge, Hohenzollernbridge, Zoobridge, Mühlheimer bridge.

Cologne Cathedral

Cologne is famous for two things: Cologne carnival and the Cologne Cathedral. Cologne Cathedral is one of the biggest churches of the world. It is 157 meters high. It is a pilgrim place, because the bones of the Three Kings were kept in the Cologne Cathedral in a golden shrine.

Cologne Carnival

Many people who live in Cologne like to celebrate a big festival called Carnival.Carnival starts on November eleventh and finishes about 50 days before Easter. The Cologne people call this time the fifth season. At the peak of Carnival, which are the last six days, there are many Carnival parades and celebrations in the pubs. Many people wear costumes.
