BIOMASS:- PRODUCTION AND APPLICATION.
BY ANWESHA BANERJEE5TH SEM BIOTECHNOLOGY.
BIOMASS:- A NEW GREEN ENERGYBiomass is the total cellular and organic mass produced by
the living organisms.
Biomass is a smart alternative to use than fossil fuels to create energy, because it is safe and it produces hardly any pollution. Biomass energy is used for three things: to create heat, create electricity, and to run vehicles. To create the electricity the farm waste is taken to a dump site where it is burned. The heat from the waste is then used to boil water, the steam from that boiled water is then used to make electricity.
To fuel your cars the waste from the farms gets grown up into its sugars, then those sugars are used to make ethanol which can be used to fuel your car.
Pros:-Made locally with minimum cost.Renewable.Does not depend on Fossil Fuels.Promotes energy independence.Converts waste into fuel.Keeps farm land cultivated.Offers hope of rural regeneration.
BIOMASS :- PROS AND CONS
BIOMASS :- CONSCons:-
Large areas of land are needed to create enough biomass to make electricity efficient.
Some materials are not available all year around. This is the biggest issue with crop wastes.
The geography of a country limits the types of biomass used to create energy.
If biomass is over used, than deforestation and other environmental problems can develop. This has happened in less developed countries that use a lot of wood for heat.
Produces green house gases .
Wood is used for burning.Rubbish is used for bio gas and heat production.Ethanol is used as vehicular fuelCrops biomass is used for biogas production.Landfill are used to harvest biogas
DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIOMASS:-
SOURCES OF BIOMASS:-
Biomass obtained from different sources like animals , municipal waste etc; are burned to produce heat . Heat produced are
used to move turbines, turbines produces electricity.
APPLICATIONS OF BIOMASS:- ELECTRIC ITY
Bioethanol is produced by fermentation at 32°c with the help of enzymes from biomassBiohydrogen is produced
from biogasification ; photosynthesis; and fermentation.
APPLICATION OF BIOMASS FOR BIOETHANOL &BIOHYDROGEN:-
Biogas is a new form of renewal source of energyIts constituent
methane;co2;nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide. It’s used for cooking
purposes ; can generate electricity ; methane is used for fuel for domestic and industrial purposes.
BIOGAS PRODUCTION:-
Reasons for use of Biogas is to reduce the high tension and stress on the limited fossil fuel source on earthThe cycle of biogas production helps to conserve the non renewable resources like coal ; petroleum and so on.
BIOGAS CYCLE :- AS A RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE
Every source for energy used should have some economical value Use of biomass should give some return to those who use it to produce bioenergy Biomass produces industrial products; fuel; electricityThus it is advantages to use biomass in a developing country like India , for proper growth and development in a greener environment.
