Dear Colleagues

You’re hired2014-2017 Apprenticeship Scheme

Hans HuxGroup CEO & Chairman

Well done to Matthew Butterworth, Josh Price, Megan Bradshaw, Daniel Lee, Liam Warburton and Calum Atherton for successfully completing three years on the B. Braun apprentice programme!

Your fresh thinking and new ideas are contributing to the dynamism of our business – Congratulations on your new roles within the business.

As 2017 draws to a close and with the festive season almost upon us I would like to thank you all for your superb work and for your contribution to the successful development of our companies in the UK.

Our UK B. Braun organisation is one of the leading, most inspiring and innovative businesses within the B. Braun Group, well on route towards achieving our 2020 strategic goals.

We have not only an excellent reputation for our products, services and solutions but also as a first class employer, we can be very proud of our first class, loyal and knowledgeable work force.

Overall it is you, your combined expertise, your collaboration and efforts which make us as a company successful!

Our ONLINE December issue illustrates very nicely what a diverse organisation we are and how closely we work together with our partners in maintaining and improving people’s health and lives throughout the nation.

As a close and loyal partner to the healthcare community we want to enhance our mission of understanding the challenges our customers are facing and in close collaboration develop attractive cost effective solutions with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcome, helping the NHS make better use of the resources they have available.

2017 has seen good progress towards achieving our mid and long term objectives. We completed our multi-storey car park project which provides us with the necessary capacity to develop our site further.

Our CAPS Project is now well underway and following completion we will then aim to finalise plans for our ICE Centre which is of fundamental importance to safeguard further business expansion, completing the transformation of Thorncliffe Park into a leading advanced Healthcare Campus in the centre of the UK market.

In 2018 I would like to ask you to look for new and innovative opportunities, to operate in lean ways embedded into our £1M mind set, avoiding unnecessary expenses and continuing to strengthen collaboration across all our businesses.

Your enthusiasm for our business to succeed is a personality trait that cannot be learnt and a skill which cannot be taught, thank you for being the life of our workplace and the life behind our mission towards 2020!

I personally, together with my Board and EC colleagues, am looking forward to continuing working alongside you to successfully achieve our joint goals set for 2018 and to successfully guide our organisation towards the strategic goals set for 2020.

I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Yours sincerely

Hans HuxChairman and Group CEO

Business News›Paul SkeltonManaging Director, Finance, IT, Legal & Operations

David OatesManaging Director, Sales & Marketing

Like every year 2017 has had its highs and lows but overall I’m pleased to say that our sales growth has been good, however we’ve not seen this increase in sales fully reflected in increased profits.

When we think about our profitability we know that we transferred some very profitable OPM business to our colleagues in Ireland and we also know that we have seen a number of significant increases in transfer prices over the last couple of years however, even if we allow for these effects the growth in our profits continues to lag behind the growth in our sales.

The growth in expenses which we have seen in 2017 and expect to see in 2018 represents our commitment to future of our organisation but in 2018 we must continue to focus solely on those activities which accelerate our growth and develop new profitable business opportunities.

The best tool we have for monitoring and controlling our expenses is the 50% rule* and we will ensure that we stick very closely to it through the next financial year (*The 50% Rule: the rate of growth in our expenses must not exceed more than 50% of the rate of growth achieved in gross profit).

If together we focus on prices and expenses I am certain that we will meet our targets for 2018, Strategy 2020 and beyond.

I wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Price increases are the most powerful tool we have to increase our profits and the effects can be very dramatic. The chart below says that in a typical business if you increase prices by 1% you can expect an increase in profits of around 8% (of course the opposite is also true, and a small reduction in price leads to a big reduction in profit!). This is why we must make every effort to manage our prices if we are going to meet our targets for 2018.

During Q4 2016 as part of the £1 Million Challenge we managed to save approximately £800,000 which was an excellent achievement by the whole business. In the longer term we can only benefit from this £1 Million Challenge mind set if we can maintain this reduced level of expenditure. Unfortunately in 2017 our expenses have grown by £1.4m and there is more growth in expenses forecast for 2018.

As a business we have two very powerful tools which we can use to address the issue of slow profit growth:

The “Autumn Term” is always very busy but this one has been particularly so.

With Insight 4 Value being rolled out to our sales teams in January 2018 we have been preparing the ground by developing Insight based sales “hooks” for the products/services that will be at the heart of the training.

This has involved more than 70 sales and marketing colleagues in two, 1 day Training Sessions and four, 2 day Messaging Workshops. Along with all those who attended and contributed in an almost universally excellent and collaborative manner, I’d like to thank Charlotte Cooper and our external trainer Patrick Verstraaten for their hard work.

Matt Metcalfe has also been working hard to ensure that our Salesforce data will be in good shape when we also roll out the Flowtap opportunity management module early next year.

Based on excellent feedback from our pilot teams we will also invest an additional £15K to make the Flowtap phone app even more useful and user friendly.

As the recently recruited Head of Strategic Partnership Management, Craig Pawson has been busy getting his head

around the breadth and complexity of our portfolio and organisation. He is currently in the process of recruiting a team of three who he plans to introduce to the organisation at the Business Conference in February.

Although our Strategy 2020 goal to Grow Faster Than The Market requires that we all commit to raising our performance (by at least 10%!) we mustn’t forget that most of our team are already operating at a high level.

Nowhere is this more apparent than during the now traditional “Learn from the Best” event involving our SPOTYs and their managers which takes place around the National Sales Conference in Coventry every November. This years meeting was as inspiring as ever with Ben Thomas, Sarah Richardson, Rav Kanwar and Richard Charrington all demonstrating exceptional levels of customer insight and relationship building. Many thanks to Julian Hooker whose excellent initiative this is.

So it just remains for me to thank you all for your hard work and commitment in 2017 and to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a very Happy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year!

Michael PardenManaging Director, B. Braun Sterilog Ltd, B. Braun Technical Services

Chris ClarkManaging Director, B. Braun Avitum (UK) Ltd

It is amazing how another year is coming to a close and already our thoughts start to drift to 2018.

To reflect back on 2017, for Avitum it has been a positive year in some parts tinged with a little sadness but I am going to focus on the positive!

In our provider business we have had the positives of moving in to new units in Newport and Pontypool, where our staff can continue to deliver quality care in an environment that is up to date and reflects the needs of both the staff and patients in 2017. I have included a photo of the Newport unit on the official opening where the Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething is meeting the patients to see what they think of the new facilities. Staff and patients have settled in and everyone is in agreement that the new units are a great improvement.

Our product business had another great year with machine sales, targets were met and exceeded with these core products and customers continued to see the value that B. Braun Avitum offers.

We introduced a new area of business with our acute machine and 2017 was a year of building awareness and identifying up coming tenders to prepare for our participation. The OMNI® has now been successfully used in two centres and we are awaiting the outcome of a number of tenders to gain the first important centre. 2018 will be the year of the OMNI®.

Also for 2018 we have a new product introduction call ECOMix. The ECOMix enables customs to mix acid product on-site and reduces the need for transportation of large volumes of water. The customer can now receive one barrel which will produce 750 litres of acid using clean water they already produce on site. This product is not only economical but also good for the environment.

We can all see that going into 2018, the NHS will remain a challenging environment however I remain confident that we will be able to continue our growth. Throughout B. Braun we have excellent products and when this is combined with our new sales and marketing approach and the drive for being cost effective, I see a prosperous New Year for us all.

Finally I have included a picture of our Pontypool staff during Children in Need, I have posted this to remind us that of course we need to do our job but we should also remember to have some fun.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of Avitum and wish you and your family a fantastic festive season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

My summer 2017 submission spoke of our continual commitment to better service and performance. We have delivered on that commitment in so many different ways that it is impossible to list them all here. However, it is easy to agree the root cause of our results, be they financial, operational or technical: our employees. Whether they are in Yardley Green, Kings Norton, Pudsey or Sheffield, their determination is the reason that our key business metrics have never been better as we seek to exit 2017 with a raft of initiatives poised to deliver more success in 2018.

Their hard work is illustrated below: investment and continual improvement has helped transform the service such that our typical super centre is massively more efficient than ever it was or was ever predicted to be.

The increasing complexity of our UK business is reflected in the activity and organisation of Technical Services. 2017 will

set new records in respect of output, whether measured in terms of orders processed or devices handled, and it is clear that this trend must and will continue in 2018.

Every team has enthusiastically embraced productivity and efficiency initiatives: Kaizen, Enosis, 5S, VSM are all terms that have been used to capture the essence of this year’s focus. Importantly, additional complexity in demand requires additional simplicity in service; ongoing attention to and investment in the basics (clarity, capacity and communication) will deliver the unified success that is critical for our collective strategic goals.

Sincere thanks to all team members in Sterilog and Technical Services for your hard work this year – well done!

Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Paul SteelManaging Director, Aesculap Academia UK

On September 28th 2017 Aesculap Academia delivered the 3rd Drug Coated Balloon Symposium entitled “The Balloons Are Back In Town”. This event has grown in significance from the first meeting held in 2015 to become a major symposia covering the innovative area of DCB Only Intervention within the field of Angioplasty.

Almost 90 Cardiologists gathered in Birmingham to discuss and debate the growing popularity of DCB Therapy. This procedure is designed to provide treatment for conditions such as Angina or In-stent Restenosis for the affected patient population without the need to implant a stent.

This new intervention is the subject of much debate and the creation of the DCB Only Symposia has proved fundamental in the ability of Vascular Systems to grow Angioplasty revenues consistently to levels approaching £2m per annum. YTD sales of Angioplasty devices are +30% ahead of 2016. By the middle of November the annual LE for the business year 2017 had already been achieved and the prime driver for this success has been the Sequent Please Neo Drug Coated Balloon.

The superb collaboration between the Academia Event Management Team and the VasTech Business Group has been key to this success. The working relationships established with the Key Lead Cardiologist, Simon Eccleshall from Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has underpinned the key recipe of Chairman selection combined with an attractive and dynamic programme to attract delegate attendance to the meeting.

The reputation of this Symposia has gone from strength to strength, and the delegate feedback information reported that almost 90% of the delegates attended as a result of personal recommendation from a Cardiology colleague.

Plans are already underway for the 4th DCB Only “Balloons Are Back In Town” event which will involve key clinical speakers from other Angioplasty centres around the UK. This collaboration is an excellent example of using the expertise and event management resources within Academia alongside a specific Divisional Business Unit to help achieve the Strategy 2020 objectives of Growing Faster Than The Market and Filling The Gap.

Congratulations to the teams involved in laying foundations for continued Sales and Profitability success in Angioplasty in the years ahead.

I wish you and your families a Happy Festive Season and a prosperous New Year!

Aesculap Academia UK 2018 collaboration

This year Aesculap Academia have been liaising with British Neuro Oncology Society (BNOS) a truly multi-disciplinary society. Their annual conference has grown so large they are now no longer able to manage the organisation themselves. Aesculap Academia were invited to present to the local organising committee and showcase our capabilities as an event management company.

We are pleased to say that as a result the committee have granted us the authority to organise their 2018 event in Winchester, UK.

Another achievement is the work we are doing on behalf of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO). BAHNO was formed to encourage discussion and sharing of knowledge between the various clinical and research specialities involved in the management of head and neck cancer.

We have been working for some time with individuals from this association but never had the chance to work directly for the association. In 2018 Aesculap Academia have been confirmed as the approved preferred partner for the association.

Success in Newcastle upon Tyne Introducing Space pumps to Vets

“Dawn Cooper,” laughed Graeme,“You’re sort of a fool! You’ll never get packsInto Newcastle, you tool!”

“That place is too big.And you might as well know it,So many have triedBut they’ve all had to stow it

You might get in cannulaOr the odd needle freeYou might get them inBut listen to me…If you tried 50 yearsWith your charm and passionI’d grow a long beardLong before you get pack in!”

“Hmmmm” answered Dawn“It may be you’re right.I’d worked it for yearsWithout one single biteI might not get packs in…But then again I might!”

“Cause you never can tell What goes on down below,My contacts might be betterThan you or I know!”(Adapted from Dr Seuss McElligot’s Pool)

Well it was not quite 50 years but three years after successfully getting Introcan Safety®3 and Safeflow into the biggest hospital in the North East, The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust, we now have board approval to implement Cannulation packs which contain Introcan Safety®3 and CARESITE®. It was not easy and has taken three long years of consistent effort to get there, but this achievement goes to show how perseverance and adaptation of sales processes do result in some great wins.

Infection prevention always wanted cannula packs in, however we were hampered as at the time A&E had not fully accepted Introcan Safety®3 and the use of needlefree extension lines. They argued this process “took too long”. PERFECT, I thought, as we had just gathered the evidence to prove that our Introcan Safety®3 cannulation packs saved users time. Armed with this evidence I approached the A&E department lead ready to battle. Yes he did not like Introcan Safety®3, yes he did not like adding the needlefree device and he fell into my trap and complained about time adding this device…Then he loved the idea of packs and the time saving (hook line and sinker).

From here we got a trial in A&E, we don’t usually like to evaluate packs as it is expensive, but on this occasion we audited documentation before and during the trial and used the trial as an opportunity for the department to pick their own pack.

This meant any negative views of the standard pack “not meeting needs” could be turned into a positive as the user was given the chance to design their “ideal” pack. We got AMAZING evaluation results from this and the process was able to proceed – all be it slowly, it did take another 18 months from this point…

There was of course more hurdles. Despite the two busiest areas in the trust wanting cannula in the pack and the Infection Prevention Department designing the pack around the evaluation feedback, others kept sticking their noses in and questioning the need for the cannula in the pack. With the way the pack prices worked out from the manufacturing site it was actually more economic for the trust to have everything in the pack so eventually that was agreed on.

Next we had to overcome getting board approval – and by this time the lead in the trust had too many projects on her plate, so I wrote her a business case leaving the blanks in for the trust specific data and sent it in to her as a template she might like to use. Being so busy the ‘template’ was pretty much submitted as it was. Then it was out of my hands and a waiting game to hear back from the board.

On October 1st we were informed we had board approval for Introcan Safety®3 cannulation packs with CARESITE® in. This increased the value of the account to £600,000 pa with the next potential expansion of packs and Caresite value worth another £125,000.

The change from Safeflow to CARESITE® has protected the needlefree business here as the Safeflow valve is also distributed by other cheaper competitors so we needed to upgrade the account and this was successfully achieved in the process of creating a pack.

Next steps are to implement in Jan/Feb 2018 and audit the practice before and after the packs have been implemented to demonstrate the benefit of packs and our support when implementing packs. The final greatest benefit is a strong reference site in the North East.

Dawn CooperSenior Clinical Researcher

As a veterinary nurse who had worked in many practices over my career I was familiar with all the infusion devices available on the veterinary market. When I joined B. Braun, Steve Bailey provided some product training on the space infusion devices and I was blown away by all the features on these devices and how they could benefit the veterinary profession. One of my last Veterinary Nursing roles was at Davies Veterinary Specialists in Bedfordshire who have a team of highly trained skilled and dedicated anaesthetists, vets and nurses. I arranged to meet with Louise Clarke the head Veterinary Anaesthetist at Davies as I wanted to get her opinion on the Space range and explore the possibilities for these products in the Veterinary Market.

In the spirit of collaboration, Michael Mitchell accompanied me on the visit to Davies, with pumps very kindly loaned from Andy Pritchard. Graeme Cameron assured me that Michael would have the whole veterinary practice signed, sealed and B. Braun bonded, and he was right! Michael ran through the features and Louise was very excited and dragged in some of the senior kennels and theatre nurses (who use the pumps daily) to get their opinions and they were sold on the benefits completely. Michael then said “we will give you the pumps for free” to which I nearly had a heart attack! He then explained the concept of the pump deals they do on the “human side” where you tie the customer in to the consumables to offset/payback the cost of the equipment, this instantly appealed to them as they would not have the capital to do a full switch over to the B. Braun space.

So a few months down the line (in April 2015) they signed on the dotted line and we installed 52 infusomat space and 10 perfusor. We provided training for staff on how to use the pumps, which is something that Veterinary Practices have never had. They usually just buy a pump or syringe driver and figure it out for themselves.

The feedback from the practice has been fantastic. The long battery life means they don’t have to be plugged in and there are less cables draped across kennels causing health and safety risks. The drug library written specific to that practices protocols means they minimise their risks of drug errors thereby increasing patient safety. They are reliable devices and their repair costs are greatly reduced as their old pumps needed constant attention. The modular system and space station means they are stored safely and charging ready for use and the kennel fronts are clutter free with neat stacks of pumps on pole clamps.

The combination of a great product coupled with service and support beyond what they have ever had before means they were

shouting loudly in the veterinary market about their amazing new pumps! Not only did they post about them on facebook and twitter, the veterinary market is a small world and they spread the word which helped us secure new leads in similar practices. As a result of this we have now installed around 300 infusomat space, 100 perfusor and 4 MRI stations into the veterinary market (over 8 sites). This includes another 50 devices into Davies in September 2017 to increase their capacity. All these practices have been the top Veterinary referral centres and Veterinary Universities so provide us with great exposure to key opinion leaders.

Social media is very powerful, with a lead resulting from the posts by Davies about their new pumps. Also, one veterinary customer posts daily photos on Facebook of patients with a message to their owners… our Caresite and swabcap are often featured in these pictures! There are Veterinary competitors now shopping around to try to get a similar product to match the B. Braun space after seeing our success, however, our high quality products and excellent customer support has stood firm and customers are continuing to trust B. Braun to provide the best solution for their needs.

The DBL Sharks Sheffield unveiled their new-look squad for the 2017/18 British Basketball League season.

The team was revealed at the Thorncliffe Park, home of the Sharks main sponsor – B. Braun Medical Ltd.

At the event, Sharks head coach Atiba Lyons presented four new signings who have joined the South Yorkshire outfit.

Forward Robert Marsden and point guards Chris Alexander and Mackey Mcknight will play alongside the likes of Mike Tuck, Toby Wroblicky and Zach Gachette.

Head coach Atiba Lyons is thrilled to have secured the new players, he said: “I am looking forward to seeing what a player like Rob Marsden can do in our forward line, he’s a consistent scorer and his rebound game is among the best in the league.

“Mackey is a player with a lot of pedigree, he showed that when he broke the assist record at Lehigh, and I think that he will bring a lot of enjoyment to the fans.”

Atiba continued: “As ever, it is always very exciting to unveil the new roster, and I think that this season we have a good blend of dynamism and ball-playing experience. The addition of guys like Chris Alexander, who have played in leagues across Europe and North America, will boost the team’s ability to act in high pressure situations.

“We are looking forward to the 2017/18 season and believe that we can get off to a positive start against Surrey Scorchers. We’re grateful for the unwavering support from both our fans and sponsors, and are extremely excited to get back out on court.”

All about the Clinical Education Specialists The Sheffield sharks 2017/18 squad

Bank Staff Training

The Clinical Education (CES) team in Hospital Care have an excellent team of Associate Clinical Educators (ACE) who work flexibly to support the CES’s in providing training to our customers.

Recently we have recruited several new staff to the ACE team and with a large number of AIS implementations planned currently and in the future. We identified a need for these staff to be trained and assessed as quickly as possible in order for the education team to continue to provide first class clinical support for these products. This also ensures that the ACE team are fully competent and confident in their knowledge on our pumps to ensure high specification training is provided.

Having identified this development need, the new ACE’s in the South and Midlands were invited to attend a training day organised by Kim-Britt Harvey and Sheena Gibson. The focus of the day was AIS products and the objective was to train and assess their knowledge on Infusomat® and Perfusor® Space pumps and give them the opportunity to provide a training session back to ourselves within a controlled environment.

Five ACE staff attended this day and were assessed in their ability to provide a consistent high standard training on both the pumps. This also provided us with the ability to identify those staff who needed more support and a training plan has been put in place for them so that they can achieve the level needed to deliver this service to customers.

Feedback from the attendees was very positive with them all appreciating the ‘safe’ environment for learning and the opportunity to handle the pumps without the time restraints which often occur when we provide training on the job.

They were also very enthusiastic about the opportunity to meet other members of the team that they may not work with frequently. Also to be introduced to the oncology lines, PCA pumps and products that they may be required to train on in the near future.

This was an efficient way of bringing a group of new staff up to a high standard of knowledge on B. Braun products quickly and safely within a teaching environment. This will enable the team to continue to provide a high standard of service to our customers.

As this has been met with such enthusiasm by the team we will look at hosting further training days for new ACE staff and we can include development on the wider products within the HC portfolio.

By Kim-Britt HarveySenior Clinical Education Specialist

“We are always eager to show our support for the Sharks and hosting the team at our Sheffield headquarters is a great way to usher in the new season. We wish them the best of luck for 2017/18.”

Einstein 3D Vision Einstein 3D Vision continues to generate great excitement in the market with the most recent sales being to Hammersmith, Wishaw and Leicester Glenfields. In total, 21 systems are now installed in UK hospitals but what difference is it making to the consultants using Einstein and to patient outcomes? Mr. George Botros, a consultant Gynaecologist from Liverpool Women’s Hospital has been using Einstein for over a year now and shared his experience with us. He finds that the greater vision allows him to perform more complex gynaecological procedures, such as Endometriosis, laparoscopically, reducing operating time by as much as 50% and saving 2-3 bed stays per procedure. Einstein 3D Vision allows him to better identify planes to cut, reducing the risk of damage to the patient’s bowel, a complication that can lead to the patient requiring a stoma. Other patient benefits include reduced risk of abdominal pain following surgery, reduced recovery time and better cosmetic results. Mr Botros has also found that the more efficient surgery means that theatre sessions finish on time and additional minor procedures such as lap diagnostic cases can be scheduled to take place at the end of a session. In conclusion, he states that Einstein 3D Vision has made a significant contribution to patient safety and the service the hospital is able to provide to patients.

The next generation of talent Changes to childcare scheme

Every year B. Braun work in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University to offer Industrial Placement opportunities to several Business students. This involves students completing a ‘sandwich’ year in which they get to experience working in a corporate environment before completing their final year studying.

Katie Gollick and Laura Rawson from our Human Resources team attended the Sheffield Hallam University Graduate Fair along with Rebekah Richards, Industrial Placement in Hospital Care and Matthew Butterworth, Junior Product Associate in ORT. The day was hugely successful with around 400 students approaching the B. Braun stand to enquire about Industrial Placement opportunities.

The stand was very captivating as ORT had arranged for the Einstein 3D Camera system to be utilised for students wanting to know more about our exciting product portfolio. It was so popular that Matthew was even giving product demonstrations to the Sheffield Hallam staff and other exhibitors! As well as product demonstrations, the team were also on hand to give a thorough insight into life at B. Braun which only encouraged more students to want to apply for our vacancies.

As the Graduate Fair was so successful, there is no doubt that we will be spoilt for choice when it comes to recruiting for these positions next year, which will commence in January 2018. We currently have several opportunities across our Sales Divisions with three Industrial Placements required in Hospital Care to assist with the IV Pharma and Pain Therapy teams and two required in ORT to assist with the Endosurgical and Surgical teams.

The Industrial Placement scheme has been very successful in the past leading to students joining us on a permanent contract once they have completed their degree. It is always great to hear that the students have enjoyed working here so much that they want to turn it into a full time career.

If you are interested in having an Industrial Placement in your team then please contact Human Resources.

Taking a year out to do an industrial placement has been really beneficial as it has allowed me to experience working in a professional environment, gain knowledge in a completely new field and make decisions about my future career path. I believe that the skills that I have gained from this year will aid me in successfully completing my degree and securing a

full-time post graduate job.

Rebekah Richards, Industrial Placement

B. Braun has truly taken me places I never thought I would go. From operating theatres to Sterile services departments. I have made friends for life and had unforgettable experiences which has helped me adapt towards working life and kick-started my career within the medical

industry.

Tom Loftus, Industrial Placement

Industrial Placement Students are an integrated and valuable role within the Sales and Marketing function. Our Placement Students often challenge the way we think, carry out activities and are continually eager to help the business achieve more through innovation/process evolution. As all of the remaining Product Managers spend a significant amount of time out in the field, our Industrial Placement Student forms a vital link and ‘go to’ person based in Head Office who can take responsibility for key tasks and activities in the office i.e. - liaising with

Academia, Distribution, Regulatory Affairs etc.

Chris Cousins, Product Manager

As of April 2017, the Government launched a Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) scheme to be gradually rolled out and all eligible parents will be able to join the scheme by the end of 2017.

The current ‘employer supported’ childcare voucher system will be replaced by a TFC scheme, worth up to £2,000 of childcare costs per child, per year. At the end of April 2018 the employer supported childcare voucher scheme will close to new entrants.

The new scheme is likely to be particularly welcomed by couples with two or more children because the savings are calculated per child. To qualify, both parents will have to be in work, and each earning at least £120 a week and not more than £100,000 per year.

Employees who are already in the B. Braun childcare voucher scheme provided by EdenRed can continue to participate in the scheme, however after April 2018 no new members will be able to register for EdenRed childcare vouchers.

Parents need to do their research and work out whether the government’s new scheme, or childcare vouchers offered by the company are the best value for them. Employees need to look at their income (including receipt of universal tax credits/child tax credits) and childcare costs, as well as the ages of their children. Parents will be solely responsible for setting up and managing their accounts for each child through the government website. The differences between TFC and employer supported childcare

vouchers are complex – and working parents should always aim to take into account how their situation is likely to change in the future before making a decision. Either way, it may be that parents with current or future childcare costs are better off getting childcare vouchers now, even for minimal value, so they have a choice of scheme when the childcare voucher scheme closes to new entrants in April 2018.

Should you wish to join the scheme, all paperwork must be received by the Payroll and Benefits team by no later than March 31st 2018.

For more information on this topic, please read the childcare voucher pages on the BKC or contact the Pay and Benefits team on [email protected]. Further information is also provided by B. A step in the right direction

STEPtember saw B. Braun employees walk the equivalent from the UK to central Europe as the business wide activity proves the most popular Health and Wellbeing initiative in 2017

B. Braun – B. Healthy Programme is all about improving our employees’ health and promoting the health and wellbeing initiatives we put on each year, many of which are free for everyone to get involved in. This is co-ordinated through a small B. Healthy - B. Braun team that meets to create a programme that is diverse and fun.

The 2017 Steptember saw nearly 200 employees take part across the UK. Each team member was provided with wearable fitness devices that calculated their steps. This was entered online that converted steps into active minutes, each team was ranked in a league table based on how active they were.

After a closely fought battle at the top, it was the Cardiff North Stryders who came out victorious with a grand total of over 73,000 active minutes.

Well done to everyone who got involved. Being active for 10 minutes extra per day has huge benefits to your health. Just because the competition has finished don’t use it as an excuse to stop, form good habits and keep on moving. For those of you that chose to keep the wearable fitness device at the discounted rate – use it to keep you motivated and on track.

And don't forget, the Health and Wellbeing team will be back encouraging you to take up the next Steps Challenge in 2018. 'March for March' will be bigger and better than ever using the learning we have acquired running STEPtember.

This year has been a bumper year for Health and Wellbeing activities with our run group

competing in Sheffield 10K and Bluebell Woods 5K Colour Run in April.

England’s strongman, Paul Smith, visited B. Braun Medical to speak about his sporting journey as well as refereeing our tug of war contest during LearnFest.

We also ran a special obstacle course boot camp led by Conor Hancock, fourth World Obstacle Racer.

We held free nutrition workshops, run coaching, weekend bike rides, peak district walks for employees and families and provided electric bikes for staff to use. These initiatives led to B. Braun winning an award during the Westfield Health for the second most active workplace in Sheffield.

Watch out for the 2018 Health and Wellbeing Programme which will be out December 2017/January 2018 on the BKC or in hardcopy format. It will include more exciting health and wellbeing initiatives as well as discounts and offers with our partners.

“Cardiff North Stryders is a team composed of Nurses, Dialysis Support workers and Health Care Assistants in a very busy 32 bed dialysis unit based in Cardiff North. We are open 6 days a week Monday to Saturday and only closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day. We have almost a hundred regular patients dialysing with us 3 times a week. There are 2 shifts everyday with 32 patients each shift spread across 4 massive bays. Our dialysis unit is the biggest B. Braun unit in operation in Wales. A few our team members ride bicycles to work and we have our own MTB cycling club who regularly ride in the Welsh countryside over the weekend. A few of us are regular runners and trekkers.”

Karen DarkeB. Braun Medical Ltd is continuing its support of Paralympian Gold medalist Karen Darke as she travels across all seven continents unsupported by any vehicle other than a bike.

Karen, who won gold in handcycling at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, her 79th medal for Britain, has set up the Quest 79 campaign to raise £79,000 for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).

Quest 79 involves cycling a minimum of 7,900km around the world, covering each continent in nine significant handbike rides. Karen was paralysed from the chest down in 1993 after a rock-climbing accident, but has gone on to become a member of the British Para-Cycling Team, winning a silver medal in the 2012 London Paralympics.

Karen became an ambassador for B. Braun in 2010, with the company acting as sponsorship partner for several of her previous ventures.

Karen said: “Since winning Gold in handcycling at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, the 79th medal for my country, 79 has become a special number for me. I was 79 degrees north when on a sit-ski traverse of the Greenland icecap in 2006, 79 degrees east when handbiking across the Roof of the World in Tibet in 2014, and 79 degrees west, the ‘Wild Way’, on a handbike journey the length of Patagonia. “Coming up, 79 degrees south will take me on journey of unknown scale through the ice of Antarctica - the ‘Cold Way’. The number 79 seems to have become part of my journey in life, from a place of being unconscious of life’s potential, towards destiny and beyond. “Gold is element number 79 in the periodic table of elements, and I would love Quest 79 to be an opportunity for people to take on their own quests and find their own inner gold.”

Ross WilsonB. Braun Medical Ltd are supporting two-time Paralympic table tennis medallist, Ross Wilson.

Currently training ahead of the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, Ross Wilson has now received the backing of B. Braun.

The 22-year-old will be involved in a three year-long programme of activities including delivering motivational talks to the B. Braun team, blogging and attending company events.

He will also promote inclusive sport by getting involved with the B. Healthy - B. Braun schools programme which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in the region.

Ross, who was born in Kent but now lives in Sheffield and trains at the English Institute of Sport, was a national under 12 and under 14 doubles table tennis champion until being diagnosed with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, a genetic condition that affects bone growth.

After joining the GB Para Table Tennis Team in 2011 he won team bronze in London 2012 and reached the semi-finals in the men’s class 8 singles at the age of 17.

Ross was world ranked number two but was side-lined for two years through injury before coming back in 2015 to earn selection for the Rio Paralympics where he overcame further injury problems to win bronze in the men’s class 6-8 team event.

Ross said:“I am excited to be working with B. Braun as it is such an ambitious company and does a lot of amazing work within the local community. I am honoured to represent B. Braun as a Paralympic Medallist and can’t wait to get involved with more of their projects.”

Ross joins other B. Braun ambassadors including Paralympic cyclist Karen Darke who won silver in the 2012 London Paralympics and whose work with Braun included a handcycling tour of Yorkshire’s spinal units and a ‘Mini Olympics’ event for local school children.

B. Braun Ambassadors

Hans’ Corner

“Karen has become a popular inspirational speaker across the globe and has delivered workshops to B. Braun staff in the past on subjects including overcoming challenges and embracing change.“

“B. Braun are very proud to support Ross and thrilled to welcome him at the company. His focus, determination and commitment to his sport make him an inspirational role model, particularly to those involved in our B. Healthy - B. Braun initiative which is all about getting young people to be more active by engaging them in activities that make exercise fun.”

Modern slavery in B. Braun?

B. Braun UK published its first Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement in January 2017. This is a yearly obligation and we are currently working towards completing and publishing our second statement.

An important part of B. Braun’s modern slavery project is to increase the awareness of all B. Braun employees, to modern slavery in the UK.

Modern slavery is an appalling crime. It can effect men, women and children. It is happening right now, often under our noses and it impacts across every level of our society.

A new global report has estimated there are more than 40 million people trapped in slavery worldwide. Many of us will rarely give this a thought, assuming that slavery only exists in faraway lands. You would be wrong.

Do you have your car hand-washed? Do you have your nails done at a salon? Have you had building works done or a new driveway laid? Then the chances are, as you go about your normal daily life, your path will have crossed with a victim who has been exploited.

Modern slavery not only exists in the UK, but is on the rise, and exists in many forms. In 2016 there were 3,805 people reported as potential victims of modern slavery in the UK, an increase from 1,746 in 2013. We are all being asked to understand what modern slavery looks like and how to report any concerns.

What does modern slavery look like?We are talking about adults and children, who are forced to work through mental or physical threats; who are owned or controlled by an ‘employer’, usually through mental or physical abuse or the threat of abuse. They are dehumanised, treated as a commodity or bought and sold as ‘property’, or they are physically constrained or have restrictions placed on their freedom.

Signs of abuse include anything that suggests someone is being controlled or coerced into work, for example:

The manner of their dress Visible signs of injuries or malnourishment Signs of stress

Signs of being monitored and not allowed to mix with other people The manner in which they come to work in a particular area e.g. dropped off early or collected late on a regular basis

Case studiesCraig Kinsella a 34 year old man with learning difficulties was held as a slave and forced to ‘live like a dog’ by the Rooke family in Parson Cross, Sheffield. He was beaten on a daily basis, deprived of food and forced to sleep on the concrete floor of a garage with no access to a toilet. The Rooke family received a total of 11 years imprisonment.

A British company has been found liable for modern slavery, 6 men were trafficked to the UK to work for a company, catching chickens from farms around the country.

The men were forced to work back-to-back eight hour shifts, denied sleep and toilet breaks, were forced to use bottles and carrier bags as toilet facilities whilst travelling in a mini bus from one job to another. They were not paid the minimum wage, were charged work finding fees and had wages unlawfully withheld. The accommodation provided was dirty, overcrowded and unsafe and infested with bed bugs and fleas.

It transpired that these men were working in supply chains producing premium free range eggs for McDonald’s, Tesco, Asda, M&S and the Sainsbury’s Woodland brand. The farm sheds they cleared of chickens also produced eggs under the Freedom Food brand, and included some sites producing for Noble Foods, the company that owns the Happy Egg brand.

B. Braun, as an organisation, has to take steps to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in its own organisation or any part of its supply chain.

B. Braun are committed to legally compliant, ethical and socially responsible business and employment practices. The training modules on modern slavery will need to be completed by all B. Braun employees in the entire UK business. We have started to roll out the first stage of the training and this will continue into 2018.

If you see or hear anything or, know of anyone that is a victim of modern slavery please go to the website www.modernslavery.co.uk or call 08000 121 700 to confidentially report a concern.

Ethical procurement and the labourstandards assurance systemBackground

What is a LSAS?

B. Braun’s Ethical Trading Policy Which NHS Supply Chain Contracts are affected by a LSAS?

How do we Risk Assess a Supplier?

So how is B. Braun performing?

How is B. Braun monitored for LSAS compliance?

In SummaryWho do we Risk Assess?

The manufacture of surgical instruments for the healthcare sector has received a lot of media and public interest. Various labour standard issues were highlighted in the manufacturing and supply process of these items. For example, the use of child workers as young as eight years old, daily pay rate of £1.40 and high rate of injuries due to lack of safety gear.

In response to this, the NHS Supply Chain wanted to incorporate obligations for labour standards into its contracts. They worked in collaboration with the Department of Health to develop an approach that would embed ethical procurement. In September 2012 a Labour Standards Assurance Systems (LSAS) was introduced into contracts for Surgical Instruments.

A LSAS is a set of policies, procedures and practices used to manage labour standards issues/abuses. The purpose is to provide understanding and visibility of how suppliers identify, manage and address labour standards issues and foster a culture of continual improvement. As a supplier to the NHS Supply Chain of surgical instruments, B. Braun were required to implement a LSAS. The foundation of this is in B. Braun’s Ethical Trading Policy.

Our policy is based upon the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code (see www.ethicaltrade.org). This is an internationally recognised code of labour practice which aims to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men.

This was firstly implemented for contracts supplying Surgical Instruments. The NHS Supply Chain have since then imposed a LSAS for some Hospital Care procedure packs and more recently for OPM Urology products.

Firstly, we map out the supply chain from B. Braun back to the manufacturer. For example we buy from Company X (tier 1), who buy from Company Y (tier 2), but they buy from manufacturer company Z (tier 3). This mapping requires information from companies X, Y and Z.

All tier 1 suppliers are risk assessed, risk assessment of tier 2 depends on the country they are located in and tier 3 or lower are not assessed. Our risk assessment is a ‘desktop’ assessment, which means we do not attend the company/site. The supplier provides answers and documentation to a questionnaire we send out to them.

In addition, to considering the responses received from a supplier we also assess risk based on the country a supplier is located. Some countries are perceived as a higher risk, in terms of ethics and labour standards, than others.

At the last external audit on the 20th of September 2017 we achieved level 3 (Established Implementation) for the Surgical Instrument Goods and Procedure Pack contracts. The OPM Urology products contract will be audited, for the first time in late December 2017. We are required to be at level 2, however, we expect to achieve level 3. There are 15 performance points that we are audited on (each has levels of 1 to 4).

1. Policy2. Management Representative3. Labour Standards Status Review4. Legal and Other Requirements5. Objectives, Targets And Programmes6. Roles and Responsibilities7. Competence, Training and Awareness8. Communications

9. Documentation and Records10. Operational Control11. Supply Chain Management12. Emergency/Critical Issue Response13. Performance Monitoring and Measurement14. Corrective Action15. Management Review

We are audited once a year by an independent external body who are approved by NHS Supply Chain. The auditors review our system, procedures and risk assessments to ascertain whether B. Braun meets the requirements. B. Braun have to supply the external auditors report to the NHS Supply Chain.

Each contract has set levels we have to achieve within the LSAS, at set times. There are 4 specification levels, of increasing difficulty/achievement. Contracts usually start off with level 1 (foundation) and by a year later increase to the requirement of level 2 (Initiating Implementation). The Surgical Instrument Goods agreement, being one of the first contracts to require a LSAS has undergone a review where it now requires level 3 (Established Implementation). The highest level is 4 (Progressive).

If B. Braun fail an audit or we do not achieve the required level for a contract, the NHS Supply Chain could remove B. Braun from its supplier list.

Employment is freely chosen (no slaved labour)

Be aware. Understand that the Ethical Trading Policy applies to your working environment and not just our suppliers. Read our policy available on all main noticeboards, the BKC, IMS and our external website www.bbraun.co.uk.

Freedom of Association (you can join a union or have a workers committee)

Contact the Regulatory Affairs Department with any contractual requests for a LSAS to be implemented. Let them know of any changes to a contract, to which a LSAS applies.

No excessive working hours

Working Conditions are safe and hygienic (Health and Safety)

Read our Whistleblowing Policy. This can be used as a confidential way to report Ethical Trading concerns.

A LSAS manages and monitors labour standards, it reduces the potential for labour standards abuses to go undetected and unresolved. Ultimately, it drives improvements within the supply chain.

B. Braun are in a good position to comply with LSAS requirements and are committed to being an ethically responsible employer and supplier.

No discrimination is practiced

No child labour

Regular employment is provided

Living wages are paid (minimum nationally set wages are met)

No harsh or in-humane treatment is allowed

The code covers nine key business working areas:

What does this mean to B. Braun employees?

Our policy gives more detail around these nine key areas as to what is, or is not acceptable, in our organisation and within our suppliers.

We ask our suppliers to accept and sign our Ethical Trading Policy and in addition, we carry out a risk assessments.

Only companies in B. Braun’s supply chain which are associated to an NHS Supply Chain contract that specifically asks for a LSAS. There are currently 3 key contracts where a LSAS has been implemented. However, this will increase over time due to the continued focus on labour standards. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 is another way that the UK is trying to combat this ever growing issue in supply chains. Slavery is just one of the 9 issues within our Ethical Trading Policy.

B. Braun business book clubReview of ‘The future of Medicine’ by Bertalan Mesko

The purpose of the B. Braun Business Book Club is to bring new ideas, challenges, inspiration and themes to our readers via a range of different authors and writing styles/genres. ‘The Future of Medicine’ introduces us to some very exciting developments in healthcare and the technology that brings it to us.

The ‘The Future of Medicine’ by Bertalan Mesko is a brilliant book and truly inspirational reading. Anyone who has a career or is impacted by medicine must read this book as the concepts will hugely impact them.

Dr. Bertalan Mesko, PhD is a Medical Futurist and as an author writes on health technologies, the future of healthcare, and helps patients, doctors, government regulators and companies make it a reality. He has given over 500 presentations to Universities including Yale, Stanford and Harvard and is the recognised leader in the future of Healthcare.

On first inspection this book looks a very intense read, however it’s surprisingly easy to explore and simply articulates how healthcare will impact our future

It examines 22 trends that are currently beginning to shape the future, each trend contains real examples of innovations that are already in use

The trends range from things we are already doing at B. Braun such as the Patient Pathway and HomeCare, to real science fiction such as Nano-robots living in our blood streams!

There is clear concern from the medical profession that innovations in technology could lead to the loss of the ‘human touch’ but the author demonstrates brilliantly that the balance between ‘the art of medicine’ and technology can be maintained, and even improved

Many of the innovations have direct application to our organisation and its customers such as robotics in surgery, the empowerment of patients, 3D printing and wearable body sensors and many more…

As described in the foreword by Lucien Engelen in the future we should expect more than 50% of the revenue in healthcare will come from companies that do not exist today and have no current business in our sector.

We need to keep thinking what we are currently doing and take advantage of emerging technologies so that we can disrupt and not be disrupted.

As an organisation we need to engage with Medical Futurist and have processes which allow us to compete and shape the future.

The KEY take-aways that the BBBBC discussion group agreed on are:

›This was the first year that the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity have took part in the Summer Smash Ice hockey tournament. I was truly honoured to be selected as captain for this team. I have spent the past 4 years taking part in hockey charity matches including the Allstars events.

When the opportunity arose to play for this team I was truly thankful as I know what a brilliant charity it is. I have met some amazing people along the way including hearing of stories of how this charity has helped others and their loved ones.

This charity is amazing at what they do. They provide life saving equipment, fund vital research, improve hospital environments and add new facilities to extend treatments that the hospital can provide. Please visit www.tchc.org.uk as it has lots of information about current projects/events and how you can get involved also.

We managed to raise the most out of all the teams involved. It was in excess of £3200 which is a job well done. I sponsors had a big part to play in this.

On behalf of the team I would like to thank our supporters B. Braun Medical Ltd!

Wes Weldon and James Drinkall – Sheffield Children’s Hospital

We were proud to host and launch in Sheffield a two week exchange programme called NICE – Two colleagues from Japan took part in the exchange programme to complete an exciting project around 'cultural differences in a business environment'.

This type of programme broadens our experience and capability, and we also strongly recognise some of the benefits

that such an exchange can bring, for example - sharing skills, ideas, best practice and development.

Our guests had a fruitful and exciting experience with us in the UK and we look forward to the collaborating with our Japanese colleagues in the future.

Emily Burke

What did you do before your role at B. Braun and what were your duties and responsibilities?

I spent two years working as a Cell Engineering Research Scientist for Oxford BioMedica, a gene therapy company. This was a lab based position involving R&D of a CAR-T cell therapy targeted against young patients with acute leukaemia. In August this year the therapy received FDA approval (brand name: KymriahTM).

Following this I had the opportunity to live and work in the French Alps for 6 months. I took a break from science, worked as a business administrator within the ski industry and spent all of my free time skiing. After returning to the UK, I secured my new role at B. Braun.

What qualifications/experience do you hold?

I graduated with a 1st Class BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences degree from the University of Leeds in 2013. As part of my degree I completed an industrial placement year at Reckitt Benckiser focusing on Medical Device product development in oral health. Since graduating I have gained a total of 18 months experience within business administration roles and 2 years’ experience in gene therapy. This summer I also completed my PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner qualification.

What is your role at B. Braun and give us a few examples of your main duties?

I am the Business Support Associate for the VasTech team within Aesculap Implant Systems. I provide administrative and logistical support to the VasTech management and sales teams. This involves preparing materials for suture trials, maintaining new and existing pricing contracts, monitoring and responding to Salesforce requests, producing customer usage and sales reports, processing samples and literature requests and organising team events, training, travel and exhibition stocks.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

The people and the products! The VasTech team have been so welcoming and I really enjoy working alongside likeminded people. Having a scientific background, I’ve also found learning about the different products within the VasTech portfolio so interesting. It’s great to be part of a team whose products are critical in patient care.

What would you most like to see invented and why?

Bernard’s watch – slowing down or travelling back in time to do only good things!

What three words would you best use to describe yourself?

Organised, positive and competitive.

What was the last book you read/or film you watched?

The Island by Victoria Hislop.

Who is your idol?

Daenerys Targaryen, Queen of Dragons.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? OR Which three people would you most like to be stuck in a lift with? (Describe why you choose these individuals)

Mark Wahlberg, Freddie Flintoff, Bill Nighy and Graham Norton – comedic value guaranteed.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Sports! My main focus at the moment is running. I’m taking on my first marathon next year on behalf of British Heart Foundation and in memory of a close family member. When I’m not running, I love Les Mills gym classes, cycling and SCUBA diving (hot countries only).

I’m also a big foodie, I love cooking new things and I’ll try anything – ask Phil Cleary, he brought me some delightful durian chocolate from Thailand…

One interesting fact about you?

I have 4 titanium plates in my face after having maxillofacial orthognathic surgery when I was 17 (for those of you wondering, no I do not bleep at airports).

And Finally... If you had one wish to get rid of something what would it be and why?

Greed – people can sometimes prioritise their own wishes even when it causes stress or suffering to others. By eliminating greed, maybe people would be more content and happy with what they have, and waste less time and energy wishing for what they don’t have.

Lucy White

What did you do before your role at B. Braun and what were your duties and responsibilities?

All sorts! In my last role I was a Buyer at an electrical engineering company in Worksop. Buying everything for the company for as little as possible, chasing suppliers, negotiating pricing, organising contracts, monitoring supplier performance and producing reports.

Previously, I have been an Office and Events Coordinator, Proposals Coordinator, Projects and HESQ officer.

What qualifications/experience do you hold?

I have gained 6+ years mainly in engineering environments with business admin at my core. I have experience of managing events and projects, preparing bespoke proposals, negotiating costs and contracts, customer satisfaction and leading small teams. I have gained an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration and I am first aid trained.

I have 8+ GCSEs A*-C and I completed an Engineering Diploma whilst at secondary school and loved every minute of it, bringing light from a different angle being the only female on the course. I was awarded an A in Art and an A* in my engineering project (which I was about shoes, so of course I passed with flying colours!)

After school I then went onto study an Advanced Engineering Diploma at King Edwards. Unfortunately due to a bad case of glandular fever, a tonsillectomy and streptococcus I decided to drop out. I must admit, attending Sheffield Hallam every Tuesday to study electronics and CAD was very swanky.

What is your role at B. Braun and give us a few examples of your main duties?

Interim Customer Services Coordinator at Technical Services. Processing repairs and replacements by booking them onto the system, checking paperwork, raising quotations, leasing with customers, allocating new items for replacements, dealing with queries and invoicing.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

The variety of tasks is vast and no two days are the same. The instruments, motors, optics and pumps are so interesting and they just mesmerize me. I enjoy providing excellent customer service and dealing

with customers. Of course the team is amazing and the engineers are extremely knowledgeable which is brilliant when you need to pick their brains.

What would you most like to see invented and why?

Bernard’s watch. A watch that can stop time. I would sleep for a week, go to the gym every day before work, and have time to own a sausage dog, practice nails and travel the world without anyone knowing!

What three words would you best use to describe yourself?

Unique, creative and inquisitive.

What was the last book you read/or film you watched?

Thor: Ragnarok, it was awesome! I love marvel and DC. I’m not much of a reader to be totally honest unless I’m sat on the beach. I prefer visual effects and a great movie plot.

Who is your idol?

A tough one but it has to be my mum. She’s like superwoman without the cape. She’s a self employed mobile hairdresser, single mum, who has brought up two kids by herself and still managed to keep on top of life and not go insane; although some would beg to differ. She’s a total legend and one of my best friends. Muma bear I salute you!

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? OR Which three people would you most like to be stuck in a lift with? (Describe why you choose these individuals)

This is an extremely hard question (sorry Leonardo Dicaprio and Mathew Mcconaughey...) I would choose a dinner party. Everyone loves food over tight spaces right?

David Attenborough because he is just the most intriguing and captivating man. Ryan Reynolds, he’s witty and charming. He would keep conversation flowing and knock out some Deadpool quotes. Eminem, rap god. Enough said?

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Movies, beauty and traveling. I am absolutely addicted to films and going to the cinema. Whatever genre, whatever age, I’m game. I am currently studying to become a nail technician I will be fully qualified in February. I love doing nails and creating beautiful sets full of glitter and being creative. I would love to see the whole world, this year I’ve recently been to Rome and have eaten my body weight in pizza, pasta and ice cream.

One interesting fact about you?

I helped my best friend leaflet one summer and ended up working for Dominoes Pizza as a MITT (manager in training!) I can make a mean pizza from scratch! Including slapping the dough, spreading the sauce like a boss and topping with precision.

And Finally... If you had one wish to get rid of something what would it be and why?

Money, it’s the route to everyone’s problems. People would actually have to be honest, compassionate and kind toward wards each other. It would remove wars, poverty and greed.

What did you do before your role at B. Braun and what were your duties and responsibilities?

I have worked in the media sector for the last 20 years, most recently working for BSKYB (Sky TV) for the last 4.5 years as the National Engagement Manager.

My role was to lead a team to focus on enhancing both the customer and employee experience ensuring any key issues were owned through to resolution and that we championed success.Although whenever I share this information, I tend to walk away with either a customer complaint or a request for tips on how to reduce a bill.

What qualifications/experience do you hold?

I have spent the majority of my career working for Virgin Media as an Outsource Relationship Manager where I was lucky enough to work offshore in India for the last 5 years of my contract. I had responsibility for the back office/complaints function across the Pune, Delhi and Mumbai sites which was an amazing experience. This taught me so much about work ethic, values and pushing me outside my comfort zone to deliver to a very demanding operating model, whilst having fun of course.

What is your role at B. Braun and give us a few examples of your main duties?

My role is Customer Process Manager within Technical Services, my focus is to lead, mentor and develop the Customer Service Team to ensure we provide a first class service.

Working collaboratively with all departments is key to our success, I am so passionate about the employee and customer experience and our amazing product portfolio.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

Being part of such a hardworking and passionate team and I’m proud to say I contribute in some way to making a difference to a patient’s life, it makes me smile.

What would you most like to see invented and why?

A wish granting machine so that everybody could just make one positive wish and it would actually come true for them.

What three words would you best use to describe yourself?

Loyal, caring and reliable.

What was the last book you read/or film you watched?

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory with my son and was even more brilliant than I remember.

Who is your idol?

It has to be my Aunty H, she just gets things right and one of the most thoughtful and hard working women I know with really strong values. She’s my go to person and I hope that one day I can be that amazing for her daughter.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? OR Which three people would you most like to be stuck in a lift with? (Describe why you choose these individuals)

Bear Grylls – To listen to tales of his expeditions,Peter Kay – I just love him and only have to look at his face and I howl,The late Princess Diana – I’m so fascinated with her journey and style.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

My son’s hobbies are my hobbies at the moment and mummy’s taxis but I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I do get a minute to myself, I love nothing more than put my headphones on, switch off and go running!

One interesting fact about you?

I had a 1lb baby who decided to arrive 14 weeks early, I was so unaware how common premature births are but I quickly learnt how much care, knowledge and expertise is required to save these young lives. How amazing is it to do a job where you will always be remembered and remain part of every family you have helped.

And Finally... If you had one wish to get rid of something what would it be and why?

Bullying, particularly in children… social media certainly hasn’t helped reduce this with the lack of accountability that sits behind the most popular phone Apps.
