In 1918, Denver residents voted to buy the Denver Union Water Company and form the municipal agency known today as Denver Water. At that time, it was called the Board of Water Commissioners.

In October 1931, the Board of Water Commissioners adopted the first stylized image to represent the organization — a black-and-white seal depicting a mountain scene with a dam and pump house. That seal received a makeover in 1963. The color version was used on vehicles, equipment and clothing, while the original black-and-white seal continued to be used for legal documents.

The organization operated for 73 years under multiple monikers, such as Denver Board of Water Commissioners, Municipal Water Works, Denver Water Department and Denver Water Board.

In 1991, the board decided to unify the agency under one official name, Denver Water, and replace the seal with a logo featuring a stylized D. It incorporated a water droplet into the white space of the D.

The Denver Water D became a familiar logo for the organization, appearing on everything from hard hats and trucks, to signs on our facilities across the state.
