Walter Elias Disney was born on the 5th of

December of 1901 in Chicago.

He was an

American

screenwriter,

producer,

director and

animator.

His mother's name was

Flora Call Disney.

She was born in Ohio.

His father´s name was

Elias Disney and he was

born in Canada.

Walt had got three brothers

and a sister:Herbert Arthur,

Roy Oliver,Raymond Arnold and Ruth Flora

In 1906 he and his family

moved to a farm in

Marceline, Missouri.

During three years, Walt

and Ruth were too young to

work on the farm,

they played and drew.But in 1909 his father

became very sick and he

had to sell the farm and the

family moved to Kansas City.

Walt and Roy had to help

his father to deliver newspapers.

He started school in 1910.

But he was a bad student,

often fell asleep in class and

Walt loves drawing on the

notebooks.

After Elias quit his job,

they went to Chicago . In

Chicago Walter went to

McKinley High School, but he

also worked for his father

while he went to the Art

Institute of Chicago.

In 1918 he JOINED the army, he was too young then falsified his date of

birth.With the army he

travelled to Europe, and he drew in the ambulance when he didn´t drive it .When he returned to the U.S.A Walt worked as an illustrator in Kansas City.

In Hollywood he looked for a job but he didn´t find it, so he sent “Alice´s Wonderland” to New

York, and a company hired him.With Roy, the protagonist of Alice's

Wonderland and Iwerks they created Disney Brother´s Studio, the beginning of The Walt

Disney Company.

With his friend Ubbe Iwerks, he founded Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artist in 1920 but they had to close it.Two years later Walt created Laugh-O-Gram Films, an animated short film company like Cinderella or Cat with Boots. In 1923 Walt decided to go to Hollywood with his latest film Alice's Wonderland, because he didn´t have ANY money

In 1925 Disney Brother´s Studio hired Lillian Bounds.

Soon they got married. They had a son:

Diane Marie DisneyThree years later they

adopted a girl: Sharon Mae Disney.

In 1927 the

company created a new

character:“Oswald the lucky rabbit”

The short films of

Oswald were very popular.

They g EARNED a lot

of money and the company

hired more workers. But they

started to charge

less and Walt decided

to stop making movies.

And Walt lost the film rights

of Oswald.

In 2006 the

company regained the rights.

In 1928, Disney created other

character similar to Oswald, called: MICKEY MOUSE.

Mickey was created by Iwerks

and Walt, Iwerks drew it and Walt gave his voice to

Mickey, during 17 years.First the mouse was going to be

called Mortimer but Lillian

decided the name of “Mickey Mouse”

The first animated short

featured by Mickey, was

Plane Crazy . The first cartoon

of Mickey with sound was

Steamboat Willie.

Now it is the mascot of The

Walt Disney Company.

In 1935 Mickey was

named symbol of the

goodness.

Iwerks was tired of making the most of the work and to be only Walt's assistant, and he left the work.But Iwerks drew 700 drawings each day, and Walt had to hire a lot of draftsmen.At the end Iwerks decided to return with him.Ub Iwerks died in 1971 of a heart attack.

Disney won an Oscar for “TREES AND FLOWERS”

from the Silly Symphonies series and a

other Oscar for the creation of Mickey

Mouse.

With the benefits of

Snow White he built a new study in Burbank.

In 1941 the workers went on strike and

Walt had to pay more.

But after, people didn´t like short films.

Then Walt began to produce children´s

films of real image.

When he created

Pluto, Goofy and

Donald and he

had a lot of

money, Walt

wanted more.

He began to do a

project called

“Disney´s F

olly”.

It was th

e movie

“Snow White

”.

It was th

e first film

with co

lor and

sound.

In 1949 Disney and his

family bought a mansion

with a large estate in

Los Angeles.

Walt built a miniature

train around the garden.

In 1950 it was the premiere of

Cinderella, in 1951 Alice in Wonderland and in 1953 Peter Pan.

They hadn´t got any success.

One of Walt's dreams was to build an amusement park called Disneyland.

He bought a lot of land near Los Angeles that measured 730,000 square

meters.The construction began

on July 21, 1954 and opened on July 17, 1955.

He died of lung cancer on December 15, 1966 when he was 65 years old.AN urban legend told that Disney was frozen before he died, but his ashes HAS BEENN in the Forest Lawn Cemetery FOR forty five
