In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products

• The conventions that I have used that makes it slip into the drama genre-

• At the end of my trailer I put the title of the film, from research I found that this was a common conventions used, this convention is used at the end because the viewers concentration levels are higher and will pay attention to the title. I kept it up at the end of the trailer for a few seconds so that the viewer can remember it.

• Another convention I used is the use of only one main character, filming not doing much or looking really sad, this convention is usually at the start if the trailer so that by the end of the trailer you can see a sort of journey.

• Another convection is that there are close ups of people faces to show emotions, I have used this convention quite a lot in my trailer, zooming in on my characters face.

• I have used a stereotypical sort of character that drama film usually use, someone who is a bit odd and in the margins of society, compared to a popular or well stable person in society. I have used this convention by having an confused adolescent teen.

• I have also used, blank still shots of ‘coming soon’ or ‘this July’ in my research I found that teaser trailers come out so far in advance, and it encourages people to find out more about the film.

• I used my trailer to build up to an event, (her getting the life she wanted) I connected this together with dramatic sound and built up the pace.

• The convention of panning around to look at the scenery I have done as it is a classic convention.

Developed conventions:

• I’ve developed on the convention that teaser trailers don’t give much away about the plot as I have shown some of the plot not all off it.

• I have also challenged that in most teaser trailer of this genre they often have other character talking about the main character and what the matte with them, but in my trailer the only dialogue is one sentence I have done this because I didn't want to give loads of the plot away and I think with dialogue trailers often can. Instead I opted f or a voice over at the start saying how she feels, but the idea is for the audience to see that she is sad and her journey from being sad to happy. And I think I've done this effectively

Challenges:

• Usually they name come up on the trailer of who is in the trailer but I have no because I wanted people to come and see the film because they liked the look of it not who was in it, and I also don’t know Hollywood actors.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

I believe that all of my tasks put together are successful and when put together create something called House style’

House style is where specific skills are used and editing conventions to create the same stylistically same tasks, for example I used Photoshop for both of my poster and film magazine cover.

I believe that I have successfully accomplished this with my 3 tasks as they are all tie in to the same theme, however the plot or storyline is not given away therefore no twist is revealed.

I believe that both of my ancillary tasks are successful at advertising and promoting the film, as well as all three tasks being effective at appealing to a target audience and this has been proved from my audience feedback

All of my three tasks fitted together really was as if you saw them all you would know that they went together due to the fact that the main focus in them all in the main female character, and she is clearly the focus in each piece. I used the same fonts and text styles in everything to make them recognisable.

What have I learnt from audience feedback

Audience Feedback:Also thought it was very important to correct the “right‟ feedback from a specific criteria of people.

Therefore I sourced people by asking them if they liked drama films before giving me feedback, this is because someone who does not like the genre will not like the product whether it is effective or not.

Rather than just asking if they liked it ‘yes’ or ‘no’ i ask them to specifically state part they liked and parts they thought were so effective. This meant I didn't have to waste my time completely changing things just small areas.

Audience feed-back was a key part of all three of my tasks, it allowed me to evaluate my progress as well as allowing me to decide whether my product was successful. Its vital that the target audiences of all three products liked/related to them as they are the people I need to buy my products in order to be a successNot only was audience feedback important in the post- construction phase, it was also important in the planning and research stages, it allowed my to find out what they thought was most effective, why and what would inspire them to purchase/come to view my film. This was really helpful before constructing.

I think that it appeals to my target audience because its got all the conventions they all need, for example my movie poster is quite artistic and the kind of people that would want to want the film would be quite artist, the images that I have used also don't give too much way about the film just suggest that its about a girl.

One thing that I think I should of got looking back is audience feed back from the plot of the story, this may have helped me a bit more when it can to filming as I would of know what the audience would have wanted to see, not just doing it then hoping that people liked it.

Research-• To find all of my images and trailers that I analysed I used Google , I also went on films official websites.

To look at trailer I went onto YouTube. All of these websites helped me to understand the conventions I needed to use in all of my tasks.

• Other websites I used was survey monkey to help me create a survey that I could just put on my facebook whilst everyone did it. I found this a really useful site because after I was able to easily access the progress of the survey. After everyone had done it the website itself analysed them for me and put them into charts and did percentages which was really helpful and I have always found that using excel really tricky.

• I used a website called prezi that I found really interesting, as id never seen work laid out like that before.

• used the internet to find Blogs for film fans, as well as A2media blogs to look for inspiration as well as posting for ideas/advice on filming techniques. Finally I also used Facebook to research what conventions people expected to see from my horror products. I did this by simply messaging friends and asking for their ideas.

Construction-• I did all my filming on a HD flip camera and used imovie maker on the Mac, as I knew that it was a more

effective tool than the Microsoft virson Windows movie maker. The best thing about the flip cam was that it had a built in usb stick so as soon as I filmed I could put it straight on the computer without the hassle of a usb cord. For the images I took I used professional camera which enabled me to take high quality images. Doing everything on a Mac made things alot easier as i was able to upload videos on to YouTube whereas with Windows I would have had to convert my movie files to make them compatible with the type of files it took.

For my magazine cover and poster I used the programme called Photoshop using this software was actually a learn curve because I have never used it before, but before I started any of the tasks I spent a few days fiddling round with it and learning everything about the software so I was able to use it in my coursework because I knew it would make a higher quality of work compared to publisher, and id be able to edit photos at a advanced level. I used this software because I could manipulate and alter my images by adding effects, filters and altering the colour through the saturation, exposure and temperature tools.

For this stage of the production the majority of technology was new and innovative

But for example with the planning of the trailer I simply used a hand drawn storyboard which was itook a video explaining what was going on in it and uploaded to the blog, I believed this was the easiest way to set out my ideas.

For the Poster and magazine cover, I used the Microsoft publisher programme to map out basic plan as to the layout and structure I wanted.

• For the evaluation stage I have decided to use a power point format therefore we used the Microsoft PowerPoint programme to do so, as I believed it was easier to annotate and edit than if it were in a word document. It allowed me to tie together all of my work into one format that is easily accessible.
