• Which city services matter the most to me?
• What are the differences between the city and county governments?
• What are the similarities between the key roles in city, county and CMS government?
o Mayor, City Council, City Manager, School Board, Superintendent, County Commission, County Manager
• Could I work in city government some day? What kinds of jobs are there?
• What does the City Manager do? How about the Mayor and City Council?
• Who represents me on the City Council?
• How is the city funded? Where does it spend money?
• What is the relationship between the city and CMS?
• Where do I keep track of city news, policies and decisions? How can I get involved?
Things to watch at the meeting
• How many people are there? Who is there? Are there different kinds of people with different reasons for being there?
• Do they act differently in a “work meeting” vs in the big meeting chambers?
• What is your city council rep doing during the meeting? What are others doing?
• What topics are being discussed?
• How do people communicate? What makes a person a good communicator?
• How do the officials lead? What makes a person an effective leader?
• If you were speaking at the meeting, what would you want to talk about?
