Getting Started
Open SMART Notebook.

Getting Started
To get started, click on Response tab, and choose
Teacher Tools from the drop down menu.

Click on the icon for the SMART Response Teacher
Tools at the bottom of your screen.

Fill in the information and click Save.
(See Special Note at the bottom of the page for Classroom name.)*
*Special Note: Please note that the classroom name (Training – in this example) is the name that will appear on the remotes when students sign-in to take an assessment.

Click Add a class.

Fill in the information and click Add.

To import a class list click Add students to your
class. (Go to page 45 to learn how to import a
class list.)
To add students manually click the Students tab.

Adding StudentsThe cell under Student ID is now highlighted.
Click in the cell to add the student’s ID. Next click in the
cell under Last Name to add the student’s last name, and do the
same under the First Name.

After you have added the information for the first student,
click on the second row to add the information for the second
student. Continue in this manner until you have added all of your
students.

When you are finished adding students, click the Home tab.

When you are finished adding students, return to SMART Notebook to create an assessment.

icon and choose Wizard.

Click on the type of question you would like to insert?
(In this example I will use Multiple Choice.)
The click Next.

Type the question and click Next.

*If you need to add choices, click on the drop down arrow and select the appropriate number.

*You MUST insert a Title Page in order to collect data and link an assessment with a specific class !! This is not necessary if you are using the assessment in Anonymous mode.
Click yes to group the questions and add a Title Page.*

Complete the information and click Add.

of the list of pages.
The title of the assessment appears at
the top of the page.
Fill in the other information.

assessment. Click save.

Delivering an Assessment
Connect the receiver to a USB port on the computer and wait for the indicator lights on the receiver to turn green.

When you first connect the receiver a yellow notification window will pop up advising you that SMART Response is starting and to please wait before turning on the remotes (clickers).

A blue notification window pops up when SMART Response is ready to use and you can turn on the remotes (clickers).

Delivering an AssessmentYou must identify your class before you start the assessment. Follow the
steps below to start your class and deliver an assessment.
Open the SMART Notebook with your assessment.
Click on Response. From the drop down menu select Start Class, and click on the class you want to deliver. In this example I will select Practice Class.

A window appears with a notification that the class has started. Click Close.

Delivering an AssessmentNow that your class is started, power on the clickers
Press and hold the Power button until the Welcome message is
displayed.
Use the Up and Down buttons to scroll through the available classes.
When you find your class*, press Enter.
* The Classroom name you created in the SMART Response Teacher Tools is the name that appears. If you don’t see the Classroom name, select Find a class.

Use the number keys to type in the students ID and then click Enter.

Press the Y or N button to confirm student name and click Enter.

Click on the SMART Response tab.

the assessment.
Choose a feedback option.
After you choose a feedback option, click Start this assessment

The view will automatically switch to Progress.
Click the forward arrow to go to the first question.

When you are delivering an assessment you can Show the status of students and
preview the results.

When you are finished, click Stop this assessment.

results, return to the title page of the assessment and
click on the Results tab.

Viewing the ResultsUse SMART Response Teacher Tools for additional information.
Click on the Students tab to review individual students’ results.

view more detailed information about the
assessment you selected.

Importing Students
Click on the class that you want to import
students into. Click Next.

Choose the type of file you are importing the information from*.
Click Next.
* For information on formatting the excel or csv files see the next page.

Format your class lists according to the following guidelines before
importing them:ID Number, First Name, Last Name
