• Bauer Verlagsgruppe (media group) is a family run business from Hamburg, Germany that has been managed by five generations of the Bauer family reigning from 1875. Bauer media group launched in the UK with the magazine Bella in 1987 under the name of H Bauer Publishing where it became Britain’s third largest publisher.

• As of 2013, they have approximately the revenue size of 2.4 billion euros. Employing 11,000 people.

• Immediate Media Co is an award-winning special interest content and platform company. They are one of the biggest consumer media businesses in the UK and the third largest magazine publisher.

• They currently employ 1,100 people staff at the offices in London, Bristol and Manchester.

• They sell over 70 million magazines every year and reach 33 million unique users every month.

Top of the Pops and Music magazine are the two magazines that immediate media represent. They are both owned by the BBC who target a commercial audience. Specifically top of the pops who aim at a younger demographic where the content is mainstream.

• Top of the pops is a monthly magazine that is targeted at pre-teens.

Time inc. produces a wide range of magazines that are popular across the UK. They also produce to music magazine NME and Uncut.

• Time inc. UK was founded in 1968 in London.

• Time inc. was formally known as International Publishing Corporation.

• It is recognised as Britains biggest media publisher.

• It publishes a variety of magazines including lifestyle, women's and music themed magazines.

Uncut and NME magazine are the two magazines Time inc ukrepresent.

NME music was originally published as a newspaper but later became known as a magazine in 1998. In June 2012, a survey showed NME has been read by approximately 289,000 people.

Uncut was a magazine that was originally created as both a film and music magazine, which was solely targeted towards 25-45. It is widely known across the globe as it is available in all English countries. Uncut has a monthly circulation of 56,000. However, this is a drop from a 2007 where it had approximately 90,000.

Emap is a British Media company that is based in the east midlands. This is referred to the name of the company which East Midland Alliance Press

• Emap publishes 20 magazines which included some of the more popular magazines such as retail week, health service journal and architects journal.

• In the past, they used to produce a magazine that was purchased on a larger scale. This was Smash Hits which issued it’s final issue in 2006.

• Smash Hits was first published in 1978 as a bimonthly magazine. The target audience for smash hits was aimed at young adults. Towards the end of the magazines run it circulated around 120,000 readers. In comparison to 1989 where it had a circulation of 1,000,000 people.
