Slovakia• Slovakia is situated in the hearth of Europe.• Our country isn´t big, but tourists can visit and admire

beautiful nature and historical sights.• You certainly heard about our mountain called the

High Tatras – Vysoké Tatry in Slovak language. We are proud of them much.

• Slovakia is divided into regions, which offer various historic traditions and natural museums.

• We will show you especially our the most popular protected natural places called national parks.

Region - PoŽitavie• We start in our town Vráble, which lies in Nitra

region in area called Požitavie around the river Žitava.

• Our town lies in lowland called Podunajská. From the North it is surrounded with mountains Považský Inovec, Tríbeč and Štiavnické pohorie.

Nitra• Nitra is the city about 20 km from Vrable situated at the

foot of Zobor Mountain in the valley of the river Nitra. • It is the biggest town in this region. • Nitra became the capital of the principality of Nitra in the

9th century.• Princes Pribina, Svätopluk, Mojmír and Rastislav were rulers in Nitra principality.

• Cyril a Methodius settled in Nitra principality in 9th century. They created the Glagolitic - the first Slavonic manuscript.

• Nitra castle is located in the Old Town. It is a dominant of the city and a national cultural monument. It was built in 11th century.

• St. Emmeram's Cathedral is the part of the castle. It was originally built in the Gothic style.

Bratislava• Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia.• It lies on the river Danube about 100 km from

our town Vrable.• You can find beautiful historical sights in Old

Town under Michal´s gate and the castle here.

PovaŽie • Now we could go to the North and we get to the

beautiful region called Považie on the river Váh.• We can admire very nice natural scenery of

mountains called Small and Big Fatra and Strážovské vrchy.

• On the way we can stop to see the castle Beckov.• We can go on to the town Trenčín with another

famous castle.

Region Kysuce• This region is located up the city Žilina until to Polish

border. • We can admire beautiful nature and moutains called

Javorníky and Kysucké Beskydy.• Here we can find famous mountain railway called

Vychylovka with natural museum of life in Kysuce in the past.

Orava• It is the region in the North of Slovakia with mountains Oravské

Beskydy and West Tatras.• We can visit the castle called Orava undercastle.• Orava dam offers holidays at the water.• There is also natural museum Zuberec in which we can know the

life of people in this county in the past.

Region Liptov• We will continue to the East and we get in the National

park the Low Tatras – Nízke Tatry in region called Liptov around the town Liptovský Mikuláš.

• We can see here a great dam , too.

• Tourists can visit caves called Demänovská, get with cableway to the peak Chopok from which we can admire the highest hill of the Low Tatras-Ďumbier.

• There are a lot of hotels, restaurants and tourists centres for example Jasná.

Region Spiš• Near the High Tatras there is the region called Spiš

with famous castle with the same name – Spiš. But only ruins remained from this castle.

• In this region you can admire and visit our national parks – The High Tatras, Slovak paradise and Pieniny.

The High Tatras – Vysoké Tatry• As we mentioned – the High Tatras are the highest

mountain in Slovakia full of beautiful forests, moutain lakes , rock shields, waterfalls.

• You can admire here also splendid mountain lakes – Štrbské, Popradské, Skalnaté.

• From Old Smokovec with interesting architecture we get to Hrebienok with cable car.

• Lomnica is very nice skiing centre. • Gerlach is the highest peak in the High Tatras - 2,656 m high.

St. Elisabeth Cathedral in Košice• St. Elisabeth Cathedral is famous Gothic

cathedral in Košice in the East of Slovakia. • It is Slovakia´s biggest church, as well as one

of the easternmost Gothic cathedrals in Europe.

• In Slovakia we can find and visit a lot of other beautiful places and castles.

• It is the best to come to Slovakia and personally know our very nice country.
