DESCRIPTION

What is TALIS? TALIS is provides a voice for teachers and school leaders to give input into policy development in their countries. It is a collaborative effort between governments in participating countries, the OECD, social partners such as teachers’ unions and an international research consortium. TALIS is a self-reporting survey uses a representative sample of teachers and schools that are randomly selected to participate in each country. Finally, TALIS fills key national and international data gaps on teachers, teaching and the impact that teachers can have on student learning.

What does TALIS tell us?

One in four teachers in most TALIS countries lose at least 30% of their lesson time, and some lose more than half, due to classroom disruptions and administrative tasks.

High-quality instruction is reflected in the use of a variety of classroom teaching practices, yet only a minority of teachers across countries reports a frequent use of comparatively diverse teaching practices.

Teachers who receive recognition for good performance from their school leader or from colleagues report feeling more confident in their own ability as teachers.
