The first question I added to my questionnaire is perhaps the most simple. The results clearly indicate that the majority of my audience will be male, with 60% of respondents being of that gender. This also indicates that the rest of the results will primarily be coming from a male perspective, which is something to consider when analysing the following results.

All of those who responded to my questionnaire were aged between 17 and 20. I expected the majority of respondents to be within this age range however 100% is rather surprising. This result supports my initial idea of needing to aim my digi-pak and music video at a younger audience.

The aim of this multiple choice question was to gather an understanding of the different bands my respondents like within the genre of indie. 0 respondents said that they liked MGMT, a band more focused on using synthesisers and computer technology to create music. The two bands that received the most amounts of votes were The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys. This indicates to me that the majority of my target audience are more interested in guitar based, traditional rock n roll influenced style bands. I should therefore aim to tailor my digi-pak around that theme.

The results of this question can be used for further research and inspiration when thinking about my music video. They also allow me to gather a general understanding of what my audience look for in a music video. For example, I could examine which music videos focus on storyline, which videos focus on editing and so on.

40% of respondents felt that the storyline of their favourite music video was the most compelling factor. This was closely followed by the camerawork of the video. The least important aspect of the video was the clothing and outfits worn. Videos with interesting uses of editing were also evidently included. These results can be used as a guideline as to which aspects of my music video should be treated with most consideration.

90% of respondents felt it was important for the artist of the song to appear in the music video. This supports the idea of including footage of a band playing and using the lead singer as the main character of the videos storyline. I see this as the best way of meeting the demand of the audience without using the original artists or band members.

Surprisingly, only 50% of people felt it was important for the songs video to relate to the lyrics of the song. With 40% of the remaining respondents claiming it “makes no difference” to the overall effect of the video and experience of the viewer.

70% of respondents expect to see both a rebellious storyline and footage of the band performing within an indie music video. Fortunately, I already anticipate to include both of these to some extent within the video I produce. 40% of people also expect to see usage of either drugs or alcohol. With this being used for A level coursework, I feel only implications of these substances being used within the video would be suitable. Only one person expects to see an emphasis on relationships within an indie music video which was unexpected.

As expected, a large number of people expect the actors within an indie music video wearing skinny jeans and either leather or denim jackets. For over a decade now, these clothing items have been iconic within the genre. 40% of people would also expect to see the influence that British subcultures - such as the Mods and Skinheads - have had on todays music and fashion within the video, with Fred Perry, Dr. Marten and Harrington jackets being popular choices.

This final question allows me to gather a clear idea of which editing effects are more effective within an indie music video upon my audience. Cutting on the beat was favoured by 90% of respondents with the use of filter effects (such as black and white) following closely. Slow motion footage is also seen as rather important by 40% of respondents which is something I shall take into account also in the filming process. Fast motion and flashbacks were only selected by 20% of respondents making them less typical features in the eyes of my audience.
